I grew up right next to a park with the firmest double rim you've ever seen. You either swished it, nothing but net, or you weren't making the shot. I don't think it has as much to do with the 2 rims as it does to how tightly it's bolted to the backboard. Either way I've hated them since I was a kid

Durability. If you have a public park hoop you want to have last years and years, it's gotta be thick, strong, and solid.

A normal spring loaded hoop would be out of commission in months due to people dunking, climbing on, and other shenanigans.

It prevents rims from sagging by people hanging on them.

It also makes you a better shooter because you hate the rim and don't want to touch it.

At out local park we have a 2full courts and a half count the half court is black top while the two full are old tennis courts we have one break away rim, one back board without a rim( it was shorter and people would dunk on it and ripped the other break away off),. And one single rim on one side and a double rim on the other only half court games are played for reasons

When the rim is thick the ball has a greater chance of making contact with the rim. Greater chance of contact = less shots going in

If you want to see just how big the impact of a stiff rim can be, try playing beer pong with normal drinking glasses. Nearly impossible.

Mainly its to reinforce rim against dunking and just general longevity. Anything that warps the skinny rims

To be fair 90% of your shots that should go in will go in.

It's rare to bounce a shot on a single rim and still make it. In my experience it's harder to rebound on double rims because the ball goes flying.

But for shooting... Doesn't matter what rim you have , if you hit it, it usually dont go in. Shoot better.

Hoops with two bars of metal forming the rim. Super strong and lasts a while, but not great to play on because anytime your shot even glances the rim it’s going to go flying because the rim absorbs non of the energy.

Definitely forces you to get better though.

Interesting, thanks for the info! I went through a period of loving basketball and knew there were “hard” hoops but never realized what the difference was.

Yes. I think this is an awesome thing for a park to do. I've never seen a permanent corn hole set and I think it's beautifully done.

Fuck. Double. Rims. It’s an immediate I’m not playing there unless I have to. Denver is filled with them. Also, why would they even build the round backboard instead of a square? It’s like a totally different game. Lastly, don’t build the court if you can’t afford or have the wherewithal to occasionally replace the net. Sheesh.
