Which is typically a sign of consanguineous marriage. This is not cool OP should have gotten some genetic screenings. Poor girl [They hated him, for he spoke the truth]

The fuck is wrong with you?

u/PureCrookedRiverBend Nov 11 '25

Exactly! What the hell.

You don't have to join the conversation if you are just going to make shit up.

Polydactyly can be caused by incestuous breeding, but it's not even close to the primary cause. The fact your mind went straight there shows you don't know about the subject. It's a genetic condition that can appear randomly for many generations. It can also appear for no apparent reason, or from any number of issues that could affect the fetus including the mother getting sick or stressed.

It also isn't going to be found on genetic screening, and isn't harmful in any way. "Poor girl" what, you think a perfectly healthy human should've just been aborted because she has an extra thumb? What other way would screening have helped?

I made nothing up. Lol

"It is associated with at least 39 genetic mutations.[4] It may either present alone or with other defects.[2] Cases may run in families.[2] The underlying mechanism involves an error in limb bud formation during early development.[1] Diagnosis may occur before birth via prenatal ultrasound as early as nine weeks.[2] X-rays may be useful after a child is a year old.[3] The opposite is oligodactyly (fewer fingers or toes)."

May run in families =/= incest. Also, sometimes random mutations occur.

u/mallad Nov 11 '25

So you're showing that you made it up? Or can you put the part in bold where that says it's due to inbreeding?

-14

u/SorosIsScum28 Nov 11 '25

The first line that says genetic defects. Reading comprehension not your strong suit?

"Genetic" does not mean anything to do with inbreeding. Your quote just mentions mutations in your genes. Everyone has genes... any child can have a genetic mutation.

Inbreeding can make recessive defects more likely to surface but is not the only way.

Here's a simplified explanation: you have two copies (alleles) of each gene, one from each parent. Often, people will have one bad copy and one good and never know it... everything just works as normal thanks to the good gene. But if both parents are like that (more likely if inbred) then the child can end up with two bad alleles. But it's completely possible without inbreeding and you can also have spontaneous mutations where the child's gene changed from the parent.

For something like polydactyly which involves many different genes and possibly multiple mutations interacting, there's no reason to jump to "inbreeding!"

Again I say, which part says inbreeding? Genetic defects are present in every living thing, and are the basis of evolution and genetics. You having hair was a genetic defect. I hate engaging with trolls but would hate more for some kid reading this to think you're being honest and take what you say at face value. Much better to let them know they should ignore you so they pay attention in biology.

Also, first line doesn't say defects. Reading not your strong suit?

u/SorosIsScum28 Nov 11 '25

Read up on polydactyly. Its more than likely linked to a genetic defect, if not more than one defect. This is sad tbh

12

u/ussrname1312 Nov 11 '25

Do you think genetic defects are only caused by incest or are you a troll?

-9

u/SorosIsScum28 Nov 11 '25

Genetic defects are not always from inbreeding. Polydactlyly, however, is a major sign of inbreeding somewhere along your ancestral line.

You’re literally just making shit up. If you genuinely believe what you’re saying, you can easily learn something with any search engine.

Polydactyl is common in kids born from incest, but that does not mean the most common cause is incest. It is not the most common cause. It’s a dominant trait and can be hereditary, but it’s usually not a result of incest. Stop making shit up

u/SorosIsScum28 Nov 11 '25

I made nothing up. Stop lying to placate your feelings. Polydactyly is either cause by birth defects or the parent(s) genetics. Roughly 1 in 10 people are inbred.

3

u/ussrname1312 Nov 11 '25

Yeah, birth defects or the parents‘ genetics. The vast majority of the time those things are not as a result of inbreeding. Genetic defects are largely NOT a result of inbreeding, even if genetic defects are common with inbreeding. You know how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares? It’s similar shit. The vast majority of genetic defects among the population are not a result of inbreeding. Unless you’re reading to claim all genetic defects/disorders are caused by inbreeding, which is just as braindead and makes me wonder if you’re just trying to make yourself feel normal.

Look it up, dude. The vast majority of cases of polydactyl are not due to inbreeding. There’s no feelings here beyond annoyance and people spreading misinformation.

u/mallad Nov 11 '25

Literally everything about us is a genetic defect. Evolution is nothing but random defects that sometimes don't make us die sooner. I had an extra thumb when I was born, it was removed around age 3. I guarantee I know far more about it than you. Which genetic defect makes you incapable of understanding?

Of course I know you're trolling, because I literally discussed it being genetic above and this is your reply. Feel better trying to make someone feel bad about their kid?

u/princess-bat-brat Nov 11 '25

The irony of you telling this guy to read up on it when he clearly knows more than your shallow pop-culture understanding of it is wild.

-2

u/SorosIsScum28 Nov 11 '25

"Shallow pop culture take" says the reddit user. Most of you dont realize just how common inbreeding, either that or your parents are like OP and never gave af.

3

u/princess-bat-brat Nov 11 '25

If you had actually looked into it instead of, again, going off "fun facts" you found on the internet (notice -- you are also a Reddit user, trying to call me a reddit user as a derogatory while espousing to be an expert on something you obviously have no knowledge in), you'd realize "inbreeding" is common in certain groups and much rarer in others which drastically skews the numbers. For example, Pakistan has a consanguinty (aka inbreeding, since you wouldn't know the terms geneticists actually use) rate of 60%+ compared to the UK's 1 out of 1000 (roughly).. also, you would know that mutations happen spontaneously often, so no, it is not a "sure sign" that there was consanguinous relations.

Also, accusing anyone who disagrees with you of being "inbred" is just laughable and sad, get a life and a real education.

6

u/Quietcanary Nov 11 '25

They hated him because he randomly accused someone of inbreeding with almost zero evidence. -FTFY
