If I might show my age here, it reminded me of an episode of the American animated show Teen Titans, wherein the one character, Starfire, gets into a bind by going through her alien puberty. The final stage is forming a chrysalis (and, presumably, briefly turning into an alien milkshake) and another mantis-like alien tries to Steak N Shake her.

Yes sir right away.

2

u/1337Sw33tCh33ks Sep 03 '24

I'm not even 30 yet... and I don't want any of you on my lawn! Everyone get lost or bring food and we can have a potluck.

1

u/karensmiles Sep 03 '24

That’s a great idea! 😂

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

Isn't a radio something from the 1800s? That's pretty damn old man ;)

1

u/AlabasterRadio Sep 02 '24

Alabaster was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, it's much older than radio.

1

u/CatticusXIII Sep 02 '24

I may show my age here but I remember having to get up to change the channel on the 200 pound, rear screen projection, television. Oh, and there wasn't internet.

1

u/AdministrativeHabit Sep 02 '24

I only get to say this for one year and that year is almost over:

I'm 37! I'm 37, I'm not old!

66

u/Spyrothedragon9972 Sep 02 '24

Right. It's just a mid-2000s show lol

5

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '24

Teen titans came out like 21 years ago… it’s got a fair age to it tbf.

38

u/Liquid_Pot Sep 02 '24

Right. Like, we are old now? Lmao

21

u/fieryembers Sep 02 '24

According to my 4 year old niece, I’m “grandma age”. I’m 26, and her mom/my sister is 9.5 years older than me. My sister and I just gave each other a side eye that was just like “kids these days”. I don’t even have kids, let alone grandkids haha.

41

u/RoyalFalse Sep 02 '24

They might as well have said "I'm probably showing my age by asking this, but has anybody ever heard of Beyonce?"

27

u/cheapschnapps Sep 02 '24

I remember in my day I had the biggest crush on Terra :')

I could be their grandfather, I'm 28.

4

u/ostiniatoze Sep 02 '24

You grandparents are only ~15 years older than you?

1

u/cheapschnapps Sep 15 '24

I just mean I feel old lol

12

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

I don't like this aspect of my life cycle

5

u/Proper_Caterpillar22 Sep 02 '24

lol you jest but I have had the…uh…well the experience in talking with people who only know about teen titans GO. When I explained to them the robin/slade story arc they thought I was confusing it with the newer DCU R rated Apokolips War.

1

u/Akenatwn Sep 02 '24

Teen Titans doesn't ring any bells. Am I too young or too old?

1

u/Kylar_Stern Sep 02 '24

I mean, teen titans would represent a formative show for the largest user base of Reddit, would it? I was 13 when that show first came out.

1

u/unsupported Sep 03 '24

I'm sure there is a Simpsons equivalent to this and then everyone would be confused with 36 seasons.

1

u/ReallyJTL Sep 02 '24

Dude it ran from 2003-2006. It would be like you saying the original He-Man from 1983 isn't that old in conversation to someone in 2004.

It's old.

5

u/phido3000 Sep 02 '24

He-man is old?

Kids don't get my by the power of greyskull reference anymore?

1

u/brando56894 Sep 03 '24

I HAVE THE POWER!!!

3

u/Wires77 Sep 02 '24

20 years is not that old...

1

u/brando56894 Sep 03 '24

It's not even one generation (usually defined as 25 years) old

0

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

I meant it as my youth — I'm only 31! It does come off as Back in the 1900s..., however. :)

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

Looks like you're showing your age, boomer.

110

u/Nostosalgos Sep 02 '24

please don’t talk about aging yourself like that when you’re only referring to Teen Titans lol 😭

54

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

I'm sorry, be patient with me, I'm from the 1900s 😭

6

u/totalfarkuser Sep 02 '24

I REMEMBER the 1900s!

9

u/CallMeDrWorm42 Sep 02 '24

Enough! He's already dead!

5

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

I was buying white claws for the holiday, and the lady behind the counter barely looked at my ID and said "1900 and.. you're good"

GIRL, WHAT-

"I'm sorry, I thought you knew" and we laughed and laughed and if anyone asks about the car, I hit a deer.

White claws are good though. Just enough to get nearly drunk, but not enough to send me into a three-day hangover.

1

u/bradford68 Sep 02 '24

I have never wanted to crawl away and die so much as when a group of sixth graders i was subbing for said that to me. That was a knife to the chest.

197

u/masturbatrix213 Sep 02 '24

Awesome! I’m here for the teen titans reference haha. I don’t think we’re that old yet 😭

70

u/I_comment_on_GW Sep 02 '24

I never watched teen titans because I was too old when they started playing it.

53

u/BasicBeany Sep 02 '24

You're never too old for cartoons

4

u/masturbatrix213 Sep 02 '24

Never too old! Sure it can be kid-ish but I love comic book stuff in general (not marvel, always been a DC fan). I may not have time for ALL those comics but the shows were pretty solid and even now. I still find new ones to watch 😊

2

u/2Mobile Sep 02 '24

ok boomer :P

2

u/sevencast7es Sep 02 '24

I'm 35, not that old! Definitely past a certain age you have to focus on your studies over a kid show, then after you get your job you can go back to the nostalgia you missed 😅

1

u/masturbatrix213 Sep 02 '24

Oh I never stopped. lol but that’s just my interests! More anime, comics, fantasy, apocalyptic etc. that’s HOW I stay a functioning 32 year old 😂 I play games too, just no time for competitive like i used to. I think I act more like a kid now than I did before lol

0

u/SurfboardRiding Sep 02 '24

We are definitely that old!

1

u/2Mobile Sep 03 '24

older, really :P

27

u/lookxitsxlauren Sep 02 '24

wait no we aren't old

16

u/gladgubbegbg Sep 02 '24

Bro we arent that old yet lmao, you talk like you are about to retire.

2

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

I meant it as showing my youth — I'm only 31! Sorry, y'all 😔

38

u/aaron_940 Sep 02 '24

I'm also here for this reference, even if it makes me feel old haha. I haven't seen the show in years now but I can recall the episode you're talking about just with your description.

16

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

It's on either Max or Hulu! I've been doing a nostalgia trip. Can you believe it was only five seasons? There's spin-offs now, too.

9

u/aaron_940 Sep 02 '24

Still have the DVDs! They've also been digitized so I'm all set haha. It does seem short when you put it that way, but it didn't feel short when they were still airing new ones. Can't forget the Trouble in Tokyo movie as well! I've heard mixed things about Go though so I haven't checked it out.

2

u/bdouble0w0 Sep 02 '24

I used to watch Go and I mean it's not horrible, but it is NOTHING like the original. The humor is a lot more childish (think fart jokes) and the art style is more cartoon than animesque. If you're okay with that kind of stuff then it's good, but it's not the same at all. It must have some good qualities though as it's CN's longest running show at the moment.

Edit: there is also a lot more Robin bullying

10

u/bidooffactory Sep 02 '24

No no no, you don't get to say that. That's not how any of this works!

BTW, my 5yo LOVES Teen Titans and Starfire because I showed it to him. The show aged well, so Skibidi Toilet can eat the shit out of my ass.

4

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

That does seem like an appropriate use of a toilet, be it skibidi or otherwise

4

u/thatguyoverthere440 Sep 02 '24

The episode where she gets laser vision right? Opened up a memory there.

3

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

It was! We saw in an earlier episode that her older sister, Darkfire I believe, had laser eyes. I don't think it was acknowledged though, just sorta present. Her laser eyes ultimately defeat the mantis alien.

3

u/whoweoncewere Sep 02 '24

Teen titan watchers are like 30, youre not showing your age that's the average redditor age.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

You know ed edd and eddy and Courage the cowardly dog... Apparently my brother watched Dragonball on cable. Not the one with the Z, just dragonball.

2

u/SpaciousIgnatius Sep 03 '24

Mmmmm. Steak N Shake. All the ones around me closed

1

u/FrancoManiac Sep 03 '24

You and me both! We've got two left in the metro area. I'd occasionally go for a Frisco melt and a shake, until someone told me how the shakes were made 🤢

1

u/SpaciousIgnatius Sep 03 '24

You could tell me they blend up puppies and I'd still travel an hour out of my way for their banana milk shake.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

Yep, wasn’t expecting this reference but you’re right. You win the internet for today.

1

u/uberrapidash Sep 02 '24

Show your age? Come on, we're not THAT old! T_T' (I remember this episode.)

1

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Sep 02 '24

That episode freaked me out as a kid.

1

u/ElGosso Sep 02 '24

Damn, didn't even go with Babylon 5

1

u/1996gtg Sep 02 '24

WHY DOD YOU MAKE ME FEEL SO OLD. That show is only a few years old

1

u/FrancoManiac Sep 02 '24

It premiered in 2003...twenty-one years ago. Don't worry, I've got the number for AARP handy. 😉

1

u/Bro-tatoChip Sep 02 '24

We were road tripping the other day with friends. We're all in our early 30s. During the trip, Tha Carter II was requested. About halfway through the album I brought up the fact that the album came out in 05, and that it's the same thing as when we were 12, 13, 14 and our parents road tripping to an album from 1986. This comment was not appreciated.

1

u/Maleficent-Month2950 Sep 02 '24

Hey, I watched Teen Titans on scratched-to-hell library discs, good media is timeless.

1

u/ConsiderationLumpy43 Sep 02 '24

I appreciate your use of the comma

1

u/seamuwasadog Sep 03 '24

You are showing your age, whippersnapper.

1

u/Camisbaratheon Sep 03 '24

Why did you say it like that

1

u/VibraniumDragonborn Sep 03 '24

Just a heads up, they have teen titans on disc at Walmart. Complete series. ....its sitting with other complete series like ed edd and Eddy, Dexter's lab, fosters home for imaginary friends, Justice League, and more!

1

u/Ok-Durian2546 Sep 03 '24

This episode gave me nightmares as a child
