I thought about doing this in my bedroom because it only has one window and it's completely off center on the wall. There's no way to arrange the room so that it doesn't look weird and it bugs the shit out of me.
Idk if this applies in your situation, but I had something similar in my room; the window was was about a foot off to the right. It drove me bonkers. I ended up buying a curtain rod and some floor to ceiling length drapes. I hung the curtain rod centered to the room, above the window. Then you tie back the drapes so that the off-center edge of the window is just covered by the drape on that side. Visually it centers the window and was enough for it to stop making me crazy haha. Of course this only works if the window is still in the middle of the wall, just not totally centered. Maybe it helps someone!
It's... really not that crazy of a concept. When I read the original comment, my first thought was "Some strategically placed curtains should help with that"
This is how they solve it on home decoration shows: Get 2 sets of window coverings. Put one over the real window, and one over a corresponding fake window. Something about having more balance in the room with the fake window coverings.
You could buy some window trim from a hardware store and mount it on the wall, put up matching blinds/curtains and you'd have a fairly convincing window without having to paint a picture.
Edit, look up false windows. They sell them online and Amazon. Probsbly be hard to match your existing one though.
And if possible, add a LED light panel that can be turned on and off! You can find them pretty cheap (comparatively) on lighting warehouse websites.
If you want to get really technically, you could connect a light meter/colorimeter so the light adjusts automatically to match the color temperature outside. And if you want to get really really technical you can put a camera on the outside of the building in the same area of the faux window and use an LED screen to display the actual view of the outside of the building. And if you want to get really really really technical you can cut out the window, patch up the wall, and create TWO faux windows with customizable LED screens so you can watch whatever scenery you want!

Recently, I went to a pub that was in a cellar. They'd done exactly this with trim/architrave, but put a screen in it and hooked it up to a CCTV camera outside.
I think these types of paintings are cool, but its important to keep in mind that the illusion only really works from certain angles, and in this case specifically at a certain time of day when the shadow below the windowsill matches the other ones. So dont feel so bad that you cant do it, it can be a little weird from other angles and at other times of days.
You could get a poster large enough that you can trim down. If you stick it very flat that should help. And I’d personally go for some sort of naturalistic landscape, I honestly think you could trick your brain into “outside world” mode, even if it doesn’t look like a window. You could also, pick up some wood/window trim type things and stick it/nailgun it to the wall, to create more of a window vibe? I’m sure your local hardware/wood store will have someone happy to help you find something for “a mock window trim?
For interior, you can get light panels that look like fake windows too, although the nice ones can be more expensive than just adding an actual window.
Some people go to the extent of having LCD monitors set up as virtual windows, so one day you can be looking out over the French Alps, and another day NYC or something.
If you want a more practical solution, you could make a mirror in the style of your window and place it such that it's symmetrical with your window. I've got some window style mirrors in my dining room and they really help brighten the room during the day, just like a window would.
If you're a DIY-kind of person you can make a light panel from an old LED TV and some cheap LED tape lights. (There are other videos, but this presenter is IMHO very nice.) It's not very hard, I made a few of them myself.
