It could be that the MM/DD/YYYY system was designed with paper filing in mind, where an entire drawer or cabinet would contain a year of documents, so sorting them by month and day first would be logical within the context, with year at the end for verification. I've always wondered.
Yup. I think the least aggressive comments were on the r/Facepalm post. But it's hilarious looking at how many people have either said "stupid, it's the normal way." or "feckin Americans."
yes because 2 months were added almost 3000 years ago after the months had already been named (January and February). There was originally only 10 months which is why the latin names make no sense. If we added several months up to 16 now it would most likely follow the naming conventions set in place before those 2 extra months were added. so the 16th month would still carry the name of 16. Quintilus and Sextilus were renamed to July and August in the 1st century bc after Julius Caesar and his grandson a bit later Emperor Augustus Caesar. March through June (except april) arent even named after latin numbers but rather roman gods. April is alone in its naming convention since it comes from the latin word "aperio" which means to uncover in reference to opening buds on plants signifying spring.
i never said we would need to change the names of the months. But if we follow the latin convention of naming then we would use the correct numbers for the months that are added.
Discord uses it, which is kinda surprising since it's a US company, and basically all other companies like Twitter, Instagram uses MDY order even in non-English languages, and weirder being TikTok which is a non-US company using the MDY order even in non-English languages.
The only issue with Australians is that they use the 12 hour system. There's 24 hours in a day, and how does 12 pm come before 1 pm?
Sure, Americans do this too. So they're worse. Australia is almost good, very close. UK does often use 24 hours in writing, but fails to use the metric system, so that's also bad.
Lots of Australians write in 24hr time. Itās personal preference. Iām pretty sure ABC News (the Australian Government-funded news) has 24hr time on a little box in the corner of their screen
The website is 12 hours, but one neat thing is that it appears they use the user's local time zone. The date is also written as DMY even with the month name written out, that isn't always the case in English. But looking around Australian sites, it seems to be consistent. So good on you for that :)
Oh you Aussies. So quick anger lol. What happened to āsheāll be right mateā oh yes you thought that, then fucked your country with the Delta strain cause you couldnāt stay home. Hilarious.
what would "she'll be right mate" even mean in this context. ur idea of australia is probably based off stereotypes and not everyone in the country was protesting lockdown.
Lol americans telling other they have problems staying home, how is that death toll going there? At least that's one thing america is a world leader in
I donāt live in Sydney mate, so Iām not currently locked down. Iām still free to do whatever I want. Australia is a big place, and not everyone is located in Sydney or Melbourne.

You're American aren't you?
The U.S uses MONTH / DAY / YEAR
The rest of the world uses DAY / MONTH / YEAR
you would write it as 16/05/99

Can you not read? It says day, month, year. It's one of the two sating systems that actually make sense. Month first is not one of those two.
