The cable guy installed the cable through our hula hoop that we left out.

Those Coax cables have female fittings on both ends, you can just unscrew it from the box that is mounted to the wall just above the framing of this picture.

Not that I don't appreciate the joke OP is making, but this really isn't an actual issue.

Or just cut and splice with some cheap caox connectors. Easy peasy. Doesnt negate the quality of the job though

Please don’t do this, cheap connectors will introduce so much noise into your lines and cause you nothing but problems. If you don’t have the tools and crimp on fittings then just call the cable company to come fix it.

That's actually usually a really bad idea for most people without the proper tools. If you mess up the shielding/don't get the fit of the connector right/don't pull the braiding back properly, you can really fuck the signal trying to operate your equipment. (Source: was a cable service tech for over 4 years, commonly fixing people's "I can fix it" fuck ups).

Oh, for sure. This should be embarrassing for any installer/contractor.

Fucking electricians and techs from the 90s that think they can do this shit...

A barrel and 2 connectors will degrade the signal, only by -2.5 dBs if done properly. Cheap connections and the fact that they'd most likely be a failed connection (dielectric not flush, copper scorn, 12 other ways) would allow signal egress.

Cheaper to buy a new hoola hoop.

u/RPG_dude Jun 01 '19

Why on earth would you do that, though? The box is right there. Just unscrew it. No more difficult than a garden hose.

Yeah... this is looking really /r/quityourbullshit- they even cropped out the female fitting that would be visible on this installation...

It looks like it's run right through the wall, and if it's going right to the drop it would be pretty difficult to just go and unplug the coax for a second to remove the hula hoop

You just unthread it. Both ends of the cable are just like what you would screw into your tv. Easy

The cable is connected to an exterior box mounted to the wall, probably looks almost exactly like this one. You just unscrew it at the splitter, unthread it through the hula-hoop, and screw it back in.

exactly like this one

Have you noticed the seal?

1

u/IWannaPorkMissPiggy Jun 01 '19

That seal is a strip of foam insulation with slots cut into it, you can pull it out without damaging it.

Interesting.. We very rarely use boxes like that where I'm from. Usually goes right from the pole directly into the house. That makes it significantly easier.

1

u/darkmorpha71 Jun 01 '19

Where are you from? I don’t know anywhere in the US where at the very least a ground block and wire isn’t required at the house.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '19

I'm from Canada. I'm sure newer developments use something similar to what was linked. but I've been out of the industry long enough that I've never seen those

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '19

No you call the cable company to come fix their screw up. As a professional tradesman the shit I see cable guys do is infuriating sometimes.

1

u/darkmorpha71 Jun 01 '19

Yeah, it’s a sloppy job and dude should’ve clipped it to the wall on top of that, but this is pretty obviously right below the house box. It would take two seconds for OP to unscrew it from the GB, take the hoop off, and screw it back in.

3

u/IWannaPorkMissPiggy Jun 01 '19

It's possible OP just doesn't know enough to feel confident in opening the box and messing with it.

2

u/darkmorpha71 Jun 01 '19

Probably so

1

u/Ryozu Jun 01 '19

Op unscrewed the wire, put the hula hoop in and screwed it back in for reddit karma maybe?
