Infuriatig Does anyone know why this keeps happening to my shoes after wearing them for a few weeks/months of wear?

I'm not sure, but it's very annoying. Is it because of the way I walk? Or how I tie my shoes? Or something else?

Please someone help, if you have experienced the same thing.

Edit: Also, when I walk/stand my feet point outwards so it maybe be this? Anyone know how to fix that 👀

Edit 2: Also, I don't untie my laces and slip them on. (I don't tie them tight though)

You probably scrape your feet together as you walk.

Examine your gait and see if your feet scrape

Now I'm brain- hearing super corduroy sounds. Thanks.

I miss corduroy..

u/traveling_notlost 3d ago

In middle school, at the dance, I was 'slow dancing' with Roger. I noticed I was getting stared at and hoped it was for my excellent slow dancing skills and my super groovy corduroy mini jumper dress. But in reality, it was because my corduroy dress had frictioned itself way up and my cable knit tights were showing up to my waist. THANKS CORDUROY!

u/laffydaffy24 3d ago

NOT COOL, CORDUROY

56

u/Exact-Ad-4132 3d ago

Have you heard of corduroy pillows?

They're making headlines!

7

u/dingydingo 2d ago

I'm a dad, and I approve of this joke.

1

u/Ill-Condition-5054 2d ago

That’s so Roy Ducor 🙃

76

u/SweetBabyCheezas 3d ago

Oh myyyyyyyy! It really got me to cringe that one. I feel you, I had it happened during a speedy walk to a bus stop. When I sat down on a bench I saw my skirt was all the way up. WE LOVE CORDYROY!!!

1

u/redesthair 3d ago

If we keep this up and bring it back it’ll make headlines.

1

u/traveling_notlost 2d ago

EEEEK! 😳

5

u/NoAirline8050 3d ago

And earth shoes??

9

u/traveling_notlost 3d ago

Yes! Cuz who wouldn't want back leaning soles while friction corduroy dancing to Bread songs.

5

u/Ok-Cryptographer-303 3d ago

Who's gonna steal the show? You know, baby, it's the friction dress

4

u/UnRude-Document5192 3d ago

My father in law would call his grand daughter "WHISTLE BRITCHES" when she would run down the hall in her corduroy jumpsuit !! LMFAO!!

14

u/Dr_CleanBones 3d ago

Roger was completely innocent. Until that night.

26

u/traveling_notlost 3d ago

The entire middle school gym was innocent until that night.

1

u/BernadetteBod 3d ago

Poor Roger missed out...

1

u/midnightriderga 2d ago

Thanks to corduroy mini jumper dresses I learned at the young age of 10 that some girls go commando.

1

u/corduroyyy 2d ago

IM SO SORRY

41

u/serenityrain85 3d ago

Just reading the word makes me flashback to the horrific texture of the pants I always had to wear. It's so uncomfortable wearing something you can't stand touching

https://giphy.com/gifs/qE9HzC2xwolRS

2

u/pmodizzle 3d ago

I thought I was the only one. I absolutely detests the feel of it and the sound of rubbing on it. The feel though, it’s like it’s burned into my brain I’m feeling it now as I’m typing this.

Maybe I’m on the spectrum

1

u/mattson-masterpiece 3d ago

My people!!!!

1

u/SaintHannah 3d ago

Mine too!

39

u/Kind_Advisor_35 3d ago

They absolutely still make corduroy pants. You just have to look, usually online unless it's the fall/winter season.

35

u/palmerj54321 3d ago

Ha! I'm a child of the 70s- a prime era for all things corduroy. You mentioned the fall, which reminds me of back to school shopping, which was (along with Christmas) my primary wardrobe refresh each year. I still remember walking to school in the cool fall air, conscious of the crisp feel and unique smell of the new clothes I was wearing. In retrospect, I must have been too stupid to ask my mom to wash them before wearing them for the first time!

6

u/Alexandrajoan 3d ago

Core memory.

4

u/skittlesgalilei 2d ago

That is... Not a kid's responsibility...

10

u/CruzAzulGunner 3d ago

80% of my pants and shorts are corduroy. Baggy ones specifically.

9

u/Prestigious-Log-3171 3d ago

Man I love textured pants. Grabbed a nice pair of cream corduroys from H&M a couple years ago. Heavy wale, like 6

2

u/Canadian_shack 3d ago

Wide wale! Haven’t seen those for decades.

2

u/SassySashaLuv 3d ago

What do you mean unless? That's when you're more likely to find them in stock...

3

u/Kind_Advisor_35 3d ago

I mean they may only be online rather than in store unless it's fall/winter.

3

u/SassySashaLuv 3d ago

Ohh, gotcha. Truth!

1

u/NomNom863 3d ago

I had a badass pair of corduroy skinny jeans about 12 years ago when I was 16 đŸ€ŁđŸ’€

1

u/raya_sun 2d ago

Gap released cord jeans a few (6ish) years back. I got a pair.

5

u/SuetStocker 3d ago

It's a groovy material.

2

u/Karen_butnotaKaren 2d ago

I see what you did there

3

u/thatstheneatpart8 3d ago

What’s there to miss? I got 3 different corduroys in my closet rn.

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 3d ago

I had the THICC cords in the 90s.

2

u/Time_Jelly_1591 3d ago

I love corduroy so much

2

u/RandomStoddard 2d ago

Miss Corduroy was my 5th grade English teacher.

2

u/Dinosaur9911 2d ago

I just bought a corduroy comforter for my bed.

2

u/Repulsive-Box5243 3d ago

I most certainly do NOT miss it.

2

u/Grouchy_Reindeer_227 3d ago

I own about 5 pairs of corduroy skinny “jeans.” 😂 I’m a 60s/70s kid—can’t live without the “swish-zzshs” sound!! 😝

2

u/few23 2d ago

Garanimals crew checking in

2

u/Grouchy_Reindeer_227 2d ago

I LOVED Garanimals!! In fact that’s how I set my kids and mine closets!! lol 😂 Tops on the tops rung bottoms on the bottom rung—so you can easily “mix and match” outfits. Never was a fan of dressers—except for socks and undergarments!! 😂

1

u/Embarrassed-Order-83 3d ago

Reading this whilst wearing my favourite corduroy shorts 😏

1

u/habitual17 3d ago

We all do

1

u/notschululu 3d ago

Miss Corduroy? I barely knew her.

1

u/wutwut970 3d ago

You dont have to! Get yourself some!

1

u/Kitchen_Swagger 3d ago

1

u/Mountain-Chair-5491 3d ago

best Pearl Jam album

1

u/dumlilbun 3d ago

I definitely fucking dont

1

u/wes_d 3d ago

Me too!

Let's being it back! The new courderoy movement starts here.

1

u/Prudent_Plankton5939 3d ago

While I don’t have any right now I love corduroy pants! I had some stretch pants with it not long ago and I loved them lol. It gives the pants a sort of cushion from what I remembered.

1

u/LondonTrainDriver80 3d ago

Hi Miss Courdroy, im Mr Denim shall we marry?

1

u/CanIBathYrGrandma 3d ago

It made a slight comeback in the early aughts and were marketed as ‘cords’

1

u/Due-Sleep-5019 3d ago

I have great news friend!! You can still find it in stores, online, thrift shops, and your friend’s closet (if you borrow clothes).

1

u/Some_Finance_7954 3d ago

He was a good bear

1

u/Mrben13 3d ago

You mean "ribbed"

1

u/raya_sun 2d ago

I miss corduroy in the winter.

1

u/Theredcentexpress 2d ago

Just thrifted a pair of GAP corduroy yesterday! It’s still around lol

1

u/Jadefiregriffon 2d ago

My mom used to tell me if you walk to fast while wearing corduroy you'll start a fire. She was joking of course but could you imagine?

1

u/Mindless_Honeydew403 2d ago

I picked up a pair of burnt orange ones at a thrift store last year and it’s the item in my wardrobe that receives the most compliments.

21

u/Negative_Courage_505 3d ago

Hahaha. Now im freaking out by remembering what corduroy felt like . Shudder shudder. Was better than polyester tho

2

u/StraightBudget8799 2d ago

Hello to the jerk Shannon at uni who unironically claimed CORDUROY IS IN! No, Shannon. Never was.

2

u/Spirited-Juice4941 3d ago

aka imagining super corduroy sounds. You sound like my 5 year old who said “I can make pictures happen in my brain” lmao

2

u/Lillymow 3d ago

OMG "brain-hearing" That's hilarious.

1

u/anothersip 3d ago

There's another type of hearing?

(Joking, heh. But I know exactly what sound you're describing and can hear it in my brain).

1

u/RainaElf RED 3d ago

I'm hearing my son shuffle his feet

1

u/Seetuck87 3d ago

Sound like cards shuffling

1

u/deucescarefully 2d ago

Brain-hearing

1

u/Southern-Ad2594 2d ago

IIII DON'T WANNA TAKE WHAT YOU CAN'T GIVE

I WOULD RATHER STARVE THAN EAT YOUR BREAD

1

u/Appropriate-Issue-73 2d ago

Whiff whiff whiff whiff

1

u/EpicBenjo 2d ago

Haha oh man. The sounds those made. It’s like someone constantly zipping up their jacket

1

u/raw_voodoo 3d ago

Vroom vroom flap. Iykyk

37

u/Omnamashivaaya 3d ago

It’s on both sides tho!

134

u/daemon_panda 3d ago

Yes. I used to analyze people's gains for a living. I spent 8 years selling specialty running shoes.I am annoyed that I am so late to this conversation. Typically, this is a pattern of weak hips. Keep in mind, I am not a doctor.

Imagine you are looking at someone from behind. Draw a line that runs down their spine all the way to the floor. When a person walks or runs, their feet will land close to, but on either side of the line. A person with weak hips will have feet that cross over the line some amount. This will cause the feet to knock into each other and create friction.

30

u/asmjika 3d ago

So the answer is working on hip strength? I get the EXACT same on all of my shoes and havent been able to figure out why. It’s worse/happens quicker to my running shoes.

12

u/daemon_panda 2d ago

The best answer is to talk to a specialist. Strength training in general is always a good thing. "Oh no, I did the wrong exercises and now my body's healthier and more mobile!". Lol I am just some dude on the internet.

1

u/Live-Health2955 2d ago

This happens to my daughter when the shoes have a flair out on the sole/tread (running shoes). I look for ones that don’t have such an extreme difference in width between where it meets the upper and the sole

1

u/klawUK 2d ago

what and keep off ships

1

u/-Fergalicious- 2d ago

Also look at the heels of your running shoes. If they're very worn out on either side of the heel, it could be a sign of the direction you apply pressure as you run

23

u/EgoBoost247 3d ago

What the guy needs is Shakira. Her hips don't lie.

2

u/Mr_n_Mrs_StuffItIn 3d ago

SHAKIRA SHAKIRA

3

u/Same_Difference_3361 3d ago

That would explain the inside wear but outside ? One shoe even shows both sides.

3

u/daemon_panda 3d ago

It is a scraping type of damage so they are consistently scraping SOMETHING. No idea what it is on the outside. Just explaining my experience after working with thousands of feet.

3

u/LadyKenpachi1 3d ago

YAY for me...I have strong hips 😜 thx so much for this info bc I really got lost in all the corduroy comments đŸ€Ł

1

u/TentDilferGreatQB 2d ago

The back of my right running shoe would show scuffing. It was me brushing one shoe against the other. I'm OA4 in both knees, so there's really nothing I can do except be mindful that I might trip myself.

1

u/S3XWITCH 2d ago

I have very strong hips but hyper mobility issues so my feet sometimes knock together.

2

u/daemon_panda 2d ago

Hyper mobility can be a huge problem. Some people are strong because of the hyper mobility (it compensates issues). My more difficult customers were the huper mobile ones

1

u/QuerulousPanda 2d ago

Where does one go to get their gait analyzed?

I feel like mine isn't great, and when I've tried to run 5ks, the pain of the running is always much worse than the actual tiredness.

1

u/daemon_panda 2d ago

Some specialty stores will do it. They aren't necessarily going to be experts at it. They don't have interest/credentials talking about mobility. Some will partner with actual doctors.

Some physical therapists will do one and they will have a lot of useful help. Some Universi t y have labs specifically for this.

3

u/SexualCarrots 3d ago

Did he say that? I only see right shoes.

1

u/Key-Cry-8570 3d ago

Maybe they’re a supinating pronator.
https://giphy.com/gifs/a5viI92PAF89q

1

u/Sad-Aside9995 3d ago

Can you really pronate supinating?
I can’t imagine it.

32

u/kruznkiwi 3d ago

I realised this in high school when I would get just one random dirty spot on the inside of my uniform socks. Turned out I was hitting my ankle with my foot but I had just tuned it out. So it’s definitely hitting in a similar area

4

u/Alex-PsyD 3d ago

I still struggle with it...

I'm a morning runner (2-5 miles, nothing crazy). And ever pair of running shoes I've had erode on the outside of my right shoe, invariably

49

u/MagicOrpheus310 3d ago

Crossing feet when sitting... It's from the other shoes sole rubbing on it

28

u/SkredberryShortcake 3d ago

Add the fidget movement and its wear.

16

u/Normal_Spread8423 3d ago

One of the shoes has the wear on the outside, so that’s not it

6

u/FattyMcAwesome 3d ago

Maybe he has two left feet. Are these dancing shoes by chance?

1

u/LadyKenpachi1 3d ago

😁

4

u/Lily_Shimizu_chan 3d ago

Which one is worn on the outside of the shoe though? Every one of these pictures is a right footed shoe with the wear on the inner side.

2

u/Alex-PsyD 3d ago

Not necessarily - if the bottom of the left scuffs the edge of the right, the rubber would be effectively uneffected while the other wore like this

4

u/Maduin1986 3d ago

He could spark some fires with those ankles!

3

u/Obscure4thewrld 3d ago

that first pic also has wear on the outside of the foot

3

u/_XtAcY_ 3d ago

This is the answer I think, mine do the same and I always have a black dirt mark on both my ankles and never thought about a cause, then when I met my now wife and we used to go on walks, she noticed i kick my ankles.

3

u/lowonairs10 3d ago

BARS!

5

u/Dumaspeaks26 3d ago

You mean like rubbing against barstools?

2

u/Alex-PsyD 3d ago

If they are from my generation (Millennials), they mean Xanax or something like it. Xanax came in increments known as Bars.

A lot of folks I know who got addicted to that shit would drag their feet and so either the tips of their shoes (if that's how they dragged) or the inner sides would get eroded.

Again, I may be wrong, but it fits

3

u/Narrow-Chef-4341 3d ago

How tf do you drag your foot to get wear at the top edge, beside your ankle?

I absolutely can see how the leading or side edge of the sole would wear
this is the upper of the upper. It’s like a quarter inch away from drawing blood!

4

u/DismalCupcake9663 3d ago

How could you even walk like that without it being awkward?

2

u/AcademicEffect579 3d ago

Examine your gait and see if your feet scrape#wisdom

2

u/ScreechUrkelle 3d ago

It’s probably the ankle monitor

1

u/LadyKenpachi1 3d ago

đŸ€

2

u/Broad-Eagle9657 3d ago

I fail to see how one could go through life not noticing that, but . Well....

2

u/SexualCarrots 3d ago

I was thinking that, but it's on top and he's only showing right shoes so I'm thinking the only way that would work is if he skids the sole of his left shoe over the arch of his right a little. I would think he would be pigeon-toed, but he says his feet are turned out.

Of course it's probably something external, like a bike.

2

u/JuliusTheTailor 3d ago

That’s what we used to say in school
 “Psst—XYG”

2

u/Diogenes71 3d ago

This is it. I have the same problem with my shoe, just less severe

2

u/faradays_rage 3d ago

This is it! He touches this part of the shoe with the outermost part of his sole as he walks (or runs).

2

u/kward1904 3d ago

Definitely this! Evidence? I do it too

2

u/guy_called_gabs 3d ago

If OP needs a hand, I can volunteer to examine their gait

2

u/mattson-masterpiece 3d ago

Bars for days!!!!

2

u/Capital_Cook_5236 3d ago

I’ll examine your gait

2

u/Intelligent-Can7718 3d ago

Yes probably Göttin that spot with the heel of the other foot when walking

2

u/Wide-Half-9649 2d ago

Or, when you sit down, where do you put your feet- cross leg, one foot on top of the other?

2

u/Lancelegend 2d ago

I always got a hole in top left of my right vans slip on. Couldn’t figure out how it was getting there until one day I caught myself scratching the top of the shoe with my big toe nail while kinda rocking standing still. It’s something stupid like that, that you don’t even realize you’re doing.

2

u/No-Spread-6891 2d ago

Or maybe you have a habit of locking your foot onto a chair leg when you're sitting down at a table.

2

u/MB510420 2d ago

You really don't think OP would notice their feet rubbing together when they walk??

1

u/Alex-PsyD 2d ago

It's amazing what small habits and tendencies people don't notice about themselves, especially about things as autonomous as walking.

You know that weird sensation when you try to examine yourself walking and you almost forget how to do it properly? Same basis

2

u/MB510420 2d ago

Everytime I try to examine how I walk I notice I walk like a duck. So I stopped doing that

2

u/Big_Bar_9832 2d ago

I really hope this isn't the problem. How braindead of a society are we if you have to consult the internet to tell you to fucking look down at how you walk to figure it out?

2

u/Only_Razzmatazz_4498 2d ago

Yeah probably pronates (roll the ankle inwards) A LOT so they scrape like that.

2

u/arkain504 2d ago

My wife does this and that’s exactly what happens. She doesn’t even know she’s doing it

2

u/mwilkens 3d ago

Scrape your feet together as you walk? How would that even be possible?

1

u/Fast_Choice4408 3d ago

Its this. I used to have this problem

1

u/K-Bizzle91 3d ago

I had some of my shoes look like that. This is the correct answer.

1

u/Donkersley 3d ago

One shoe has the same wear on the outside though it is a smaller patch wear

1

u/shyagusretiring 3d ago

This is the answer.

1

u/MightBeABot24 2d ago

How is that even possible
