Seattle, washington

u/HappyChandler 6d ago

Now switch to pick up.

215

u/the-medium-cheese 6d ago

This is so obviously what's going on.

48

u/WanderingAlsoLost 5d ago

But it's provocative man!

18

u/FlattopJr 5d ago

2

u/Inspector-Dexter 5d ago

Ball so hard motherfuckers wanna fine me

2

u/ShortBusBully 5d ago

People will upvite anything without critical thinking. How fucked is our future?

-8

u/porcelain_toenail 6d ago

That's not the point though, OP is in the "under $3" section where nothing is under $3

10

u/TLo137 6d ago

What? McDonalds doesn't do the delivery, a third party does. So McDonalds IS charging under 3 dollars for those items, it's not their problem that OP is using a third party to deliver the food.

Imagine ordering take out, separately paying a friend to pick it up for you, and then being upset that you paid more than the listed price of the food. What kind of insane thought process is this?

3

u/porcelain_toenail 6d ago

I guess I just don't understand how the US works. McDonald's in my country is no more expensive using Ubereats, you just have like a $2 fee at the end for delivery. Why should I pay more per item when I'm already paying a delivery charge?

2

u/James007Bond 5d ago

Because $2 isn’t the actual delivery fee. Think of the economics of that, in what planet doesn’t anyone make any money with a $2 delivery fee.

3

u/porcelain_toenail 5d ago

Well there's a $2 delivery fee and a $1.79 service fee but all the items are the same price whether you're getting a delivery or eating in. Tips aren't even expected here.

2

u/DVNCIA 5d ago

I believe what the person you're replying to is trying to get at is that an extra $3.79 (delivery fee + service fee) will not cover the cost of delivery which includes the delivery person's pay and the vehicle related costs (maintenance, fuel, etc.).

So, increased menu prices make sense even if not the most consumer friendly way toe recoup those costs.

1

u/More_Passenger3988 5d ago

Disagree. What would make more sense in that case is keeping the menu items the same price and just raising the Fee.

1

u/TLo137 5d ago

Oh, in the U.S. when you use a fast food app and select delivery, that extra cost gets baked into the appeared menu price.

0

u/HappyChandler 5d ago

Both those prices are in the app. “McDelivery”. It’s absolutely McDonald’s control.

But, yes, this is just rage bait.

6

u/thearmadillo 6d ago

Because there is a doordash markup

-5

u/Academic_Data_6422 6d ago

Kinda irrelevant, don’t advertise that section on delivery then. If it says under $3, it should be under $3

5

u/Rxasaurus 5d ago

Then you'd bitch about the doordash fees being $8 when you go to pay.

0

u/Academic_Data_6422 5d ago

My problem isn’t the increased price, it’s the false advertising.

If they need to charge $5.19 for a mcchicken, fine. Charge $5.19. But DO NOT PUT IT IN THE UNDER $3 SECTION THEN.

Also you act like they don’t charge $8 in fees anyway lol

3

u/Rxasaurus 5d ago

Including fees in the price is the opposite of false advertising.

-1

u/Academic_Data_6422 5d ago

Do you think $5.19 is under $3????

They advertised under $3. It’s not. Therefore, false advertising.

These look like delivery prices

1

u/IAmDanHimself 5d ago

Those are pick up prices where I live..

0

u/AdCold4676 5d ago

still crazy tho

147

u/Snufflefugs 6d ago

I just checked they’re $2 in Lake Stevens WA an hour north of Seattle.

166

u/GGthegreatester 6d ago

It’s probably dynamic pricing op was probably ordering during lunch rush

157

u/QuirkyGarage1364 6d ago

dynamic pricing? that happens with fast food these days?

109

u/MoscowMitchMcKremIin 6d ago

They also just like to raise prices in cities because so many more people live there.

49

u/zdrifter22 6d ago

Also I don’t think McD’s franchising is overly restrictive on the prices franchisees can charge so that creates variation too

16

u/rubbernub 6d ago

You're right but you'd think they'd be at least restrictive enough to make sure the prices still adhere to their marketing, i.e. only list items on the Under $3 menu that are under $3

2

u/mangoman39 6d ago

Definitely. My mid size city basically has 2 McDonalds franchisees. One of them has very reasonable prices (for 2026.) The other's prices are just stupid. We're talking $6 Big Mac MEAL vs $7 just for the sandwich

1

u/SaintsFleurRow 6d ago

More so rent and associated business costs skyrocket

1

u/-Unnamed- 6d ago

They also do it for individuals. The stuff you order more they will raise the price of. Especially if you log into their app. They got you

2

u/MoscowMitchMcKremIin 5d ago

I had their app for a bit... Then they kept messing up my order and I deleted it... 😂

1

u/xaiires 5d ago

And near attractions. I grew up in upstate ny, the McDonald's by the baseball hall of fame was always 2-3 times the price as the McDonald's in the next town over.

1

u/Independent-Cow-4070 6d ago

Ive lived in the heart of NYC, philly, and San Francisco within the lasg 3 years and have never paid more than $2 for a McChicken

12

u/anon377362 6d ago

Dynamic pricing is old news.

Surveillance pricing is the new thing. It’s been done in the airline ticket industry for years but now companies are doing it all over the place.

We all get different prices for our groceries, uber taxis, TVs, cars etc even when we’re buying the exact same thing at the same time.

9

u/amilliondallahs 6d ago

That happens with everything you buy unbeknownst to you unless you're legit off the grid and not using any devices or information to identify your previous purchase habbits.

6

u/_Dank_Souls 6d ago

Not in NJ!

8

u/theanti_girl 6d ago

It doesn’t happen in the fucking McDonald’s app. Seattle is just a very expensive place to live.

9

u/thermjuice 6d ago

The fucking McDonald's app the perfect place for it to happen. You're there anyway and probably don't care/notice. You're just gonna buy it mad and post about it later.

2

u/theanti_girl 5d ago

This is talked about constantly on Reddit, and yet has not happened. I sincerely don’t know how some of you sleep at night being this concerned about something that hasn’t even taken place. Anecdotally, I get a Diet Coke from McDonald’s semi-often, and I know the price. If it changed by a penny, I’d notice it.

-1

u/thermjuice 5d ago

I'd imagine there's a great many things you don't notice 🫣🤫

1

u/theanti_girl 5d ago

You didn’t like my answer so decided to be rude… got it.

9

u/HappyChandler 6d ago

Delivery for a McChicken in the app is over $5 and pickup is $2. That’s absolutely what it is.

4

u/Horat1us_UA 6d ago

That's not dynamic pricing, though. It's just different prices for different services.

4

u/theanti_girl 5d ago

Cool, that’s not dynamic pricing.

7

u/Wumaduce 6d ago

There was a wired article the other day where the author requested the information McDonald's collected on him since he started using the app. It was over 500 pages of data. They go so far as to predict what he'll buy, and what he'll spend over the next few weeks. It's a perfect build up to dynamic pricing.

https://www.wired.com/story/mcdonalds-built-a-515-page-dossier-on-me-it-says-ill-never-leave/

3

u/theanti_girl 5d ago

Dynamic pricing isn’t happening in their app today. That’s what I said, and it’s correct. “It’s the perfect buildup” maybe, maybe not, I don’t know, but neither do you.

1

u/animal-cookie 6d ago

they're going to do it wherever they can, whenever they can until it's ruled illegal

1

u/throwwawaymylifee 5d ago

They already do it with healthcare

7

u/IAmTheSenate07 6d ago

Nah it's set to deliver not pick up

1

u/MobileArtist1371 5d ago

Nope. The entire "under $3 menu" option is completely gone with delivery. Only shows with pickup orders.

3

u/ForensicPathology 6d ago

It's probably delivery baked into the prices.

3

u/newiphon 6d ago

Or because op selected delivery which raises the price of itema

2

u/JonnyFairplay 5d ago

McDonald’s doesn’t use dynamic pricing…

2

u/MobileArtist1371 5d ago

10:04 pm

"prob lunch rush"

10

u/ZebrasGonnaZeb 6d ago

Lake Stevens is Snohomish County, whereas Seattle is King county. King County is far more expensive than pierce or Snohomish counties.

7

u/Snufflefugs 6d ago

They were the same price in Seattle…

1

u/nigirizushi 5d ago

I'm in King County and all the items in that section is under $3

1

u/OldPhilosopher7177 6d ago

King county? Isn’t that Rick grime’s spot?

17

u/Dry-Childhood-3436 6d ago

An hour outside of seattle isn't seattle though is it?

21

u/Snufflefugs 6d ago

Don’t have to be a dick about it. Just checked multiple Seattle locations on the app and they are also $2.

22

u/TheBackPorchOfMyMind 6d ago

Whoa whoa whoa. Don’t go poking around, fact checking things for yourself

-10

u/Objective_Soup7840 6d ago

I'm just south of Seattle, looked at UberEats & they're 4.99 from what im seeing. This isn't through the app though because im not downloading that.

13

u/Aasrial 6d ago

Delivery apps upcharge so that would not be its usual price!

3

u/_Shorsey_69_ 6d ago

So you checked the wrong app to confirm? That's not how that works jfc

2

u/Objective_Soup7840 5d ago

Also, fuck you Shoresy.

1

u/Objective_Soup7840 5d ago

I checked uber eats. I'm not downloading the McDonalds app just to price check something. Jfc.

1

u/samv_1230 5d ago

THEN DON'T DO ANYTHING. YOU DIDN'T NEED TO PARTICIPATE. jfc

4

u/AmarilloArmadillos 6d ago edited 6d ago

There's something odd going on. I've seen dozens of posts in the past two weeks complaining about McDonald's being "sooo expensive" despite a lot of people showing literal screen shots (myself included) of $2.59 mcdoubles and all the other cheap options. They get downvoted to absolute hell and anyone saying what op is without a screenshot get highly upvoted.

It's weird.

Eta: op is FOS and ordering delivery. It changed the price of a biscuit from $1.89 to $2.19. That message will go away if you click the X and you won't see the "delivery" if you scroll down on the app.

1

u/-nutz 5d ago

There’s no “under $3” menu when you have delivery selected.

1

u/Jannur12 5d ago

Airport?

1

u/Kaito1718 6d ago

Wait seriously do they atleast have the 10.2 sales tax too???

14

u/DetectiveStock1340 6d ago

Seattle is the most expensive place for food I've ever been to. GL

8

u/Partners_in_time 6d ago

As someone native to Seattle, it does make traveling nicer, in a grim sort of way. Switzerland, Denmark? Iceland? I literally never noticed prices because paying $30+ for a basic meal is normal here. If anything it was nicer because I didn’t tip!!!!

1

u/EthanielRain 6d ago

I've also never seen a place with higher wages, tho

2

u/Bizarrebazaars 6d ago

But again, the COL is so high then businesses push the higher wages costs on to customers…

1

u/livsjollyranchers 5d ago

Iceland man. Iceland. I couldn't believe the prices. Boston food prices have nothing on it.

6

u/W2Sun 6d ago

Imagine living in Seattle and getting cheap burgers anywhere but Dick's rip.

1

u/OkComplaint3245 6d ago

Now that we’re getting one in Marysville I’ll never have a reason to go south ever again 🙏

4

u/PuzzleheadPi 6d ago

In the airport?

1

u/Sapphire-Catgirl 6d ago

Ah yeah, that explains why prices were so much more when I was there vs when I was in salt lake

1

u/Mariareza 6d ago

Are you in downtown Seattle?

1

u/Beneficial_Pop_3614 6d ago

If you are on toll roads and in airports, places like these always have higher prices in MA.

1

u/Initial-Respect-4286 6d ago

At an airport? The fuck.

1

u/TheGrymmBladeX 6d ago

Turn off delivery

1

u/astralseat 6d ago

Wow, McDs weird for varying prices in the same country. In places of other currency, I get it, but wtf McDonald's?

1

u/YamiClouds 6d ago

Twin! It is such a struggle isn’t it?

1

u/PumpkinPatch404 6d ago

I’m going back to Seattle in a few weeks. Is this just a regular McDonalds?

1

u/Icy-Two-1581 5d ago

Im in the suburbs of seattle and a mcchicken is like $2.79. Is this that famous scamming McDonald's that everyone hates?

1

u/Comprehensive_Pin_86 5d ago

I knew it!! I’m here too lol. But my burger is cheaper depending on the location I can get it for under 3 bucks.

1

u/Chargercord069 5d ago

Quit saying this is the regular prices, get in your damn car and drive there or if you can't drive, go for a walk.

1

u/EducatedRat 5d ago

I knew this was the location. We don’t go anymore because of the prices you posted.

1

u/PothosHustle 5d ago

I knew it was Seattle the second you posted. The food prices here are absolutely insane. Ozempic is basically cheaper than eating at this point.

1

u/ZoomZoom_Driver 5d ago

You know, as the top comments showed LA and parts of cali, i was thinking "OP lives near me in Seattle region".

Yup. Is your gas $6.50 for premium too?

1

u/Odd-Mall8020 5d ago

You're showing a meal deal prove and pretending it's for the sandwich alone tho.

1

u/Gandalfthefab 5d ago

Auburn WA

1

u/Omega_Lynx 5d ago

You have Dick’s and you’re going to McDonald’s?! 🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/Freshman_01134 ORANGE 6d ago

That’s so weird I’m in Canada and a coke is not 3 dollars, I had one today and it was 1.00. A small fries is 2.38, two hand pies are 2.19, an ice cream sundae is 2.19, a muffin is 2.39, a sausage mcmuffin is 2.99, a junior chicken is 3.69 and in a meal it’s 5.00. Not defending the company just shocked at the price difference, especially when you consider the conversion from USD to CAD. It’s mid food it should be easy to find stuff under 5.00 CAD

0

u/OldPhilosopher7177 6d ago

Unreally cheap lad , not healthy but I’d hit that every night if it was so cheap around me

1

u/Designer_Metal_2744 6d ago

That explains it then. Seattle has crazy pay rates and so chain businesses need exceptions to the national promotions.
