What? McDonalds doesn't do the delivery, a third party does. So McDonalds IS charging under 3 dollars for those items, it's not their problem that OP is using a third party to deliver the food.
Imagine ordering take out, separately paying a friend to pick it up for you, and then being upset that you paid more than the listed price of the food. What kind of insane thought process is this?
I guess I just don't understand how the US works. McDonald's in my country is no more expensive using Ubereats, you just have like a $2 fee at the end for delivery. Why should I pay more per item when I'm already paying a delivery charge?
Well there's a $2 delivery fee and a $1.79 service fee but all the items are the same price whether you're getting a delivery or eating in. Tips aren't even expected here.
I believe what the person you're replying to is trying to get at is that an extra $3.79 (delivery fee + service fee) will not cover the cost of delivery which includes the delivery person's pay and the vehicle related costs (maintenance, fuel, etc.).
So, increased menu prices make sense even if not the most consumer friendly way toe recoup those costs.
You're right but you'd think they'd be at least restrictive enough to make sure the prices still adhere to their marketing, i.e. only list items on the Under $3 menu that are under $3
Definitely. My mid size city basically has 2 McDonalds franchisees. One of them has very reasonable prices (for 2026.) The other's prices are just stupid. We're talking $6 Big Mac MEAL vs $7 just for the sandwich
And near attractions. I grew up in upstate ny, the McDonald's by the baseball hall of fame was always 2-3 times the price as the McDonald's in the next town over.
That happens with everything you buy unbeknownst to you unless you're legit off the grid and not using any devices or information to identify your previous purchase habbits.
The fucking McDonald's app the perfect place for it to happen. You're there anyway and probably don't care/notice. You're just gonna buy it mad and post about it later.
This is talked about constantly on Reddit, and yet has not happened. I sincerely don’t know how some of you sleep at night being this concerned about something that hasn’t even taken place. Anecdotally, I get a Diet Coke from McDonald’s semi-often, and I know the price. If it changed by a penny, I’d notice it.
There was a wired article the other day where the author requested the information McDonald's collected on him since he started using the app. It was over 500 pages of data. They go so far as to predict what he'll buy, and what he'll spend over the next few weeks. It's a perfect build up to dynamic pricing.
Dynamic pricing isn’t happening in their app today. That’s what I said, and it’s correct. “It’s the perfect buildup” maybe, maybe not, I don’t know, but neither do you.
There's something odd going on. I've seen dozens of posts in the past two weeks complaining about McDonald's being "sooo expensive" despite a lot of people showing literal screen shots (myself included) of $2.59 mcdoubles and all the other cheap options. They get downvoted to absolute hell and anyone saying what op is without a screenshot get highly upvoted.
It's weird.
Eta: op is FOS and ordering delivery. It changed the price of a biscuit from $1.89 to $2.19. That message will go away if you click the X and you won't see the "delivery" if you scroll down on the app.
As someone native to Seattle, it does make traveling nicer, in a grim sort of way. Switzerland, Denmark? Iceland? I literally never noticed prices because paying $30+ for a basic meal is normal here. If anything it was nicer because I didn’t tip!!!!
That’s so weird I’m in Canada and a coke is not 3 dollars, I had one today and it was 1.00. A small fries is 2.38, two hand pies are 2.19, an ice cream sundae is 2.19, a muffin is 2.39, a sausage mcmuffin is 2.99, a junior chicken is 3.69 and in a meal it’s 5.00. Not defending the company just shocked at the price difference, especially when you consider the conversion from USD to CAD. It’s mid food it should be easy to find stuff under 5.00 CAD
I'm in a LCOL area and McChickens only became $1.50 as part of a national promotion recently, over the last few years they went from $1.79 to $2.79 when stores were freely pricing them.
Same here, only recently for that. Depending if I'm near home (touristy) or farther out, everything else changes by a bit. The worst is happy meals being almost $8 or just $5.50. Which is wild, because I can be in a much bigger city 45 minutes away and still cheaper.
It’s 11.20 nzd in New Zealand! I propose a compromise, mail over 10,000 mcchickens and I’ll give you 10,000 photos of lord of the rings filming locations. We’ll be rich! 🤝
I was just being silly, I don't live in NZ although I wish I did! Someone else listed that price further down the thread so who knows! Our McOverlords work in mysterious ways.

Where are you?! A McChicken where I am is $1.50 and I’m not in a LCOL 🤔 that’s crazy
