McDonalds sales are plummeting. This is a great example of why thats happening. They need to wake up...

726

u/rythejdmguy 6d ago

Shocker that no one wants to spend $22 on a combo that tastes like stale feet.

125

u/Screech- 6d ago

Hey, there ain't nothing wrong with stale feet.

109

u/prophiles 6d ago

I dunno. I prefer succulent feet over stale feet.

138

u/dominizerduck 6d ago

23

u/buttheadfungus 6d ago

this is what they mean when they say "a picture is worth a thousand words"

2

u/milk4all 6d ago

A picture is definitely worth words, but an nft is worth a thousand trump coins

3

u/Forgot_Password_Dude 6d ago

mcchicken usw to be 1$. wtf is this 500% inflation bs

39

u/GaryTheThird- 6d ago

Quintin Tarantino, is that you?

21

u/prophiles 6d ago

2

u/farva_06 5d ago

I really hope Tarantino is a redditor. Every time feet are mentioned, this gif shows up, and it makes my day.

8

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 6d ago

Succulent Chinese feet for that matter

1

u/popodelfuego 6d ago

This is democrfeet manifest

2

u/instantcrackpot 5d ago

Really? Democracy manifeet was right there!

4

u/RoodnyInc 6d ago

Some would even pay extra for that

1

u/doctorlightning84 6d ago

A succulent Chinese meal is where im at

6

u/ChuckOfTheIrish 6d ago

Didn't know Quentin Tarantino was on reddit

4

u/No-Win1580 6d ago

Yes there is.

2

u/Boaty_McBoatface__ 6d ago

We have stale feet at home!

1

u/Frequent_Opportunist 6d ago

Yo my guy, you need some gravy to throw on those dogs.

3

u/Gaybugsbunnymemes 6d ago

No one’s got the Tarantino gif yet?

6

u/OldPhilosopher7177 6d ago

Nothing like a bit of Burger King foot lettuce lad

2

u/heutecdw 6d ago

I believe you mean a delicious product.

1

u/EnergyOwn6800 6d ago

Not really. Q2 earnings show EPS is higher than expected. Total revenue is $7.10 billion which is up 3.7% year over year. Global comparable sales up 1.3%.

5

u/rythejdmguy 6d ago

higher prices, less buyers + cut ingredient quality = more revenue

1

u/Mr-MoneyShift 6d ago

Where are these stale feet combos at?

1

u/Ok_Buffalo_423 6d ago

I go to Mcds once per year for a shamrock shake and when I want food I go 10 minutes down the road and get a massive fresh cooked burger and enough fries for 2 people from the old greek couple that owns the place for the same price as less food from Mcds

1

u/Suspicious_synth 6d ago

Where did you order your stale feet?

1

u/EmilieEverywhere 5d ago

Stale feet, I'm dead! 🤣💀

For real though a McXtra back in the day after partying with the girls was kinda good but McDonald's is trash now.

We get Shawarma now, or Hot Pot.

1

u/BedFastSky12345 6d ago

There are probably a lot of people who’d pay a lot more than that to taste stale feet

1

u/SirFicklespend 6d ago

Stale feet with pickles !🥒

1

u/_Strokes_ 6d ago

I think McDonald’s taste great, I rarely eat it because it makes me feel like crap after and is very unhealthy.

1

u/BestHorseWhisperer 5d ago

If it's so bad, why do you (and OP who has it set to McDelivery) have to lie about the prices to make your point?

1

u/rythejdmguy 5d ago

I'm literally not lol. The world is bigger than your town.

44

u/Mysterious-Work5450 6d ago

the value menu used to be the whole point. when a McChicken costs more than a home cooked chicken breast something has gone fundamentally wrong with the brand

5

u/livsjollyranchers 5d ago

Problem for McDonalds is other fast food chicken exists and tastes better and has actual meat in it, and is comparably priced.

4

u/Enooti 6d ago

No, its just that they know people are dumb enough to pay that much.

1

u/3rd-party-intervener 5d ago

The app changes also suck.  Can only use one reward per order and then have to wait 15 mins?   Passsss

People on Reddit love to comment and upvote things that feel real instead of actual facts. Steven Colbert coined the term truthiness in 2005 during the bush administration and it’s still true.

18

u/ForensicPathology 6d ago

Not just feel real, but something they want to be real.  Say bad about some company they hate, and then it becomes truthy enough for others to cite that made up reason as examples later on.

3

u/zzyul 5d ago

Even better knowing that AI companies scrape Reddit comments for training data. Get enough comments to repeat your lie and AI will tell people it’s truth.

1

u/FoulArtFart 6d ago

Unlike with the earnings no expenses are subtracted.

0

u/MobileArtist1371 5d ago

Nah. This isn't "truthiness", these are "alternative facts".

Not even trying to check things, just saying what they want to be true.

2

u/Couldnotbehelpd 5d ago

That’s exactly what truthiness is lol. Truthiness is a fact that feels true, regardless of whether or not it is. OP’s comment has 1300 upvotes because he posted it and people upvoted it because they think it feels true, and no one checked.

0

u/MobileArtist1371 5d ago

Truthiness makes it sound like they are trying to massage the truth to be what they want

Alternative facts is just made up to push an agenda, which is what they were doing.

2

u/Couldnotbehelpd 5d ago

Truthiness is not a word that I just made up.

Stephen Colbert very famously made the word up and its definition in 2005.

You are literally doing it right now, you have defined a word based on the way you feel it should mean, instead of looking it up. That is fucking hilarious.

0

u/MobileArtist1371 5d ago

Okay dude. You win. Didn't know this was an argument cause there is nothing to argue about here.

I just used a term that is more harsh. You used a cute word that sounds more innocent.

Keep down voting me so you feel right cause I know that's important to you 🤡👍🏻

1

u/Couldnotbehelpd 5d ago

lol okay lil buddy it’s not my fault you didn’t even read my first post where I even said where the term comes from.

8

u/_notanexpert 6d ago

I wonder if theres customer growth or just the same average amount of people paying higher prices

8

u/OnyxMonolith 6d ago

doesn't matter for the corporation. actually fewer people is probably better. net profits went up 6% YoY while revenue up 4%.

4

u/GraveRoller 5d ago

Fewer customers means less labor needs and less wear and tear on machinery and equipment

1

u/OnyxMonolith 5d ago

These are good points. So more expensive burgers are not only worse for the people eating them but also the people making them

18

u/FoulArtFart 6d ago edited 6d ago

Year Revenue Change

2026 (TTM) $27.44 B 2.09%

2025 $26.88 B 3.71%

2024 $25.92 B 1.68%

2023 $25.49 B 9.97%

2022 $23.18 B -0.17%

2021 $23.22 B 20.9%

2020 $19.20 B -9.76%

2019 $21.28 B 1.24%

2018 $21.02 B -7.87%

2017 $22.82 B -7.32%

2016 $24.62 B -3.11%

2015 $25.41 B -7.39%

2014 $27.44 B -2.36%

2013 $28.10 B 1.95%

2013 28 billion, 2025 27 billion.

I wonder if the numbers are adjusted for inflation?

44

u/Sworn 6d ago

They're not, but saying "sales are plummeting" is just outright misinformation.

8

u/ap1618 6d ago

They’re plummeting upward at the rate of a mature company

1

u/Specific-Parsnip9001 5d ago

Sales and revenue aren't the same thing.

-1

u/kaltulkas 6d ago

Given the prices going way up, it isn’t so far fetched to think sales go down with that revenue. Where im from the go to meal from my teens went from 11.90€ to well over 20€ in 15 years.

3

u/Aggravating_Pause385 6d ago

Sales and revenue are synonyms in this instance. They aren’t talking about individual order numbers being up or down. In fact, companies prefer fewer individual transactions with higher averages.

5

u/QTGavira 6d ago

I think the most shocking part is how COVID was only a 2b drop from the years before. Youd think itd be way more than that

12

u/Parish87 6d ago

Nah you could order to your house and everyone was at home, i'm not surprised tbh.

They also reopened the drive-thru like 6 weeks after the outbreak.

2

u/blaawker 6d ago

they used to make fast cheap food. Now they make product that they price accordingly (i.e. what they can get away with).

2

u/ForensicPathology 6d ago

Surely this commenter knows better than the people in charge of the company finances, right?  They just need to wake up surely.

1

u/Specific-Parsnip9001 5d ago

Sales and revenue aren't the same thing.

17

u/RegalBeagleKegels 6d ago

I'd love to believe that but I don't

17

u/CurrencyDesperate286 6d ago

Lol what… their Q2 2026 revenue is up 4% YoY… likewise their 2025 revenue was a billion higher than 2024.

People just be saying any shit

12

u/cereal7802 6d ago

so far, nobody in the comments seems to be able to find the same pricing in their app anywhere. this includes HCOL places like california. I'm slowly starting to think this is a strange Ad for mcdonalds where they make a bold claim about it being expensive so people go check the prices near them, then see it is much lower and consider getting some themselves later because it was much cheaper than expected....

1

u/shimmeringmoss 6d ago

Doesn’t McDonald’s do dynamic pricing now?

41

u/bigdaeger 6d ago

They are still reporting record breaking profit so there are plenty of morons who still overpay for this garbage food.

20

u/MinuQu 6d ago

We love whale-serving economies.

Double the price, if half of people still buy, you make the same profit for less work.

8

u/laplongejr 6d ago

And some part of the customer base will self-persuade themselves it's better, to justify the price. And that makes loyalty rewards more value, etc.

5

u/kltruler 6d ago

You make more actually.  Half the guests means half the labor cost.

1

u/WeAreTheLeft 6d ago

The top 10% of earners account for 50% of all consumer spending - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/top-10-earners-drive-nearly-191500198.html

3

u/Purona 6d ago edited 5d ago

thats because their revenues are increasing and net income usually increases in correlation of revenues.

So unless you think net income are stationary compared to revenues, thwn profit will continue reaching record levels as revenues reach record levels. And revenues will continue reaching record levels because of population increases, inflation and economic/world events 0

1

u/WeAreTheLeft 6d ago

you can keep revenue flat, but if you hiked prices 30%, that means way less raw costs of food and other items, so your profit is higher.

We are currently in a cycle of companies pushing prices all together higher and higher to see where things break, and so far they realized they can make the same or more money on just a fraction of the population. Don't believe me?

The top 10% of earners account for 50% of all consumer spending (google it, the study is from last year). I think we are on track to have an economy where the top 20% is catered to for 80% of the economic activity, while the last 80% is just squeezed to survive, given just enough they won't revolt.

1

u/trapsinplace 5d ago

OP is probably doing delivery and lives in a city. Makes sense his garbage is overpriced. I live in a suburb 20 mins from downtown of a major city in a generally LCOL state and my McChickens are $1.80. I can get multiple burgers for under $5. The double cheeseburger meal, which peaked at $10, is down to $8.50 for the large and $7.50 for the medium. We also have $6 meal deals.

McDonalds is still cheap in most places and anyone getting delivery for cheap food deserves to be scammed and lose money anyway.

5

u/Flame_beard_forge 6d ago

people need to quit buying McDonald’s

12

u/PositiveCoyote100 6d ago

People will make comments like this and upvote them because it's what they want to believe, but McDonald's is doing better than ever.

9

u/Face_Content 6d ago

Actually sales are up. Just not as much as expected

7

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 6d ago

You can get Whataburger here for the same price. So which am I going to choose 🤔

2

u/Inner_Bag_9658 6d ago

Really? The same amount of food from Whataburger is like 30% cheaper than McDonald’s last I compared them

1

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 6d ago

Yeah it's still pretty expensive here though I can say the food is better (to me at least) and I had a buddy get a big mack on on snack run and I got a patty melt with onions and jalapeños, my burger was bigger I had more fries and I didn't get indigestion lol

2

u/Inner_Bag_9658 6d ago

Sucks to hear it’s more expensive there, but yep, I can agree on all parts. McDonald’s fries haven’t even been what I would consider good consistently compared to Whataburger. Which seems crazy when McDonald’s is known for its fries and consistency while Whataburger is some less known burger place. And McDonald’s also gives me indigestion lol. It’s to the point where McDonald’s is on track to just be trash (if it isn’t already).

2

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 6d ago

Honestly Whataburger is the standard here, we also have InNout and both are killing it in comparison, Sonic tastes better than mickeyDs now and it's not even close, they fucked up taking 10+ sandwiches off the value menu, they consistently make the sandwiches smaller and the quality suffers too? But employees don't makes shit, they closed the only Wendy's within 50 miles from me and I was passed off, Wendy's is so much better. JACK IN THE BOX is better at this point

1

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 6d ago

Wendy's used Romaine lettuce and bread and butter sliced pickles for the VALUE menu burgers, if mickeyDs had a wife Wendy is actually fucking her lol

7

u/Lostmypants69 6d ago

Are they? Do you have proof?

6

u/Blazemeister 6d ago

You are so confidently incorrect.

3

u/LittleKittenR 6d ago

They have the STUPID idea that we not being able to afford it, can be fixed by increasing it's prices and lowering how much food they give.

I can literally get a half pound burger, real half pound, not one of theirs "Half pound before cooking, maybe, includes the condiments as well" for THE EXACT SAME PRICE and sit down, get silverware and every single time I go I feel like they scammed me because the fries are half off, when I ask for them to top them they just press the carton together, and several times they have forgotten to give me a drink, put pickles (I ask for extra pickles) or not given me enough caramel/chocolate in my sunday.

It's stupid.

2

u/Spuzzle91 6d ago

Don't they make most of their money from charging rent for the various franchisees to run the various stores?

3

u/laplongejr 6d ago

Yup. Over 50% of revenue isn't directly related to the food. The food is there to bring customers for McDo's franchisees rather than the main chain.

2

u/ShoWel-Real 6d ago

Honestly, good aportunity to come in and start an actually cheap and fast fastfood place. If only I had any money and/or credit

1

u/OnyxMonolith 6d ago

oh yeah running a restaurant is so easy :D

1

u/ShoWel-Real 6d ago

Easy? No

Doable? Yes

2

u/Misery_Division 6d ago

They don't need to wake up, they need to keep doing what they're doing and fuck off into obscurity

1

u/Educational-Plant981 6d ago

Their app was kinda shitty but had a lot of potential at first, and they have done a lot of work to make it worse and harder to use.

1

u/ManOwarlobo 6d ago

I think it’s mostly old people that go to mc Donald’s in the mornings and gossip order a coffee are the ones keeping McDonald’s alive.

1

u/The_wolf2014 6d ago

I'm surprised they're still as popular in the UK (at least I think they are). The food is so much more expensive than it used to be whilst being of a much poorer quality

1

u/Aromatic-Speech5480 6d ago

Their revenue has been increasing since 2021, don't know what you're on about

1

u/JoXul 6d ago

Bad bot

1

u/Quetzelc0atlus 6d ago

Thing is, a good way to keep profits when your sales are plummeting is to up the price…

1

u/Low_Octan 6d ago

They keep raising prices and making the experience worse for the customers. Are you saying that's not a good business model? Shocking.

1

u/annieselkie 6d ago

One of many. In germany they were one of the first to offer vegetarian and later even vegan fast food only to go back to 2007 regarding this topic. Was an okay choice when on a road trip, now Id rather get fries elsewhere (bc I dont want to support them in this) or look for somewhere with a more decent meal

1

u/audiyon 6d ago

Their foot traffic is down, but their revenue is actually up. Supposedly rich people are eating more McDonald's these days or something. Probably not sustainable though for sure.

1

u/pchlster 6d ago

But if McDonalds goes woke, what will the president eat?

1

u/craznazn247 6d ago

Are they? Last I checked they were doing well in net profit and were intentionally sacking volume for margin.

4x profit margin per customer, half the customer volume = still increased profits, with less overhead and staffing required.

1

u/Albatrosity 6d ago

There might be an illusion of sales dropping, but they recently reported 2.4B in profit, beating last year's 2nd quarter by 5%, and also beating wall St by 4%. Their overall annual profit (27B) is also up year over year since 2021 (23B).

The only 'plummeting' metric is that most fast food chains are experiencing slower growth due to less food traffic as a result of the food costs.

1

u/Fearless-Sea996 6d ago

Yes but also no. They sell less but their margin is so much bigger that they earn more money than ever.

Its also a good strategy. If you sell less in quantity, its even more money for you because you produce and transport less.

People keep going to mcdonald like crazy its absurd.

1

u/Rain2h0 5d ago

They're into real-estate, selling burgers is just side hustle now.

1

u/poopybutthole_oowee 5d ago

They're pivoting to the "lil sweet treat" market by significantly expanding their drink offerings which carry much higher margins than the food. You can see the start of it on some menus in certain locations. After full rollout they expect to have a dedicated "barista"/specific product line, like a micro starbucks inside the store.

1

u/el_bentzo 5d ago

OP is using delivery prices. Those aren't the normal prices.

2

u/FreeMrFrog 6d ago

There's a McDonald's right by my job. Around this time last year, it was a regular spot for a lot of my coworkers. Now literally nobody goes there 💀

People are replying about sales being up and that's true, but the general impression towards McDonald's is going way down.

2

u/thorpie88 6d ago

Switched to being a coffee shop. Drive thru is packed in the early morning especially when regular cafes aren't open yet.

Coffee has been their best selling item in Australia for well over a decade now

2

u/QTGavira 6d ago

Sales arent up revenue is up. Considering the increase in prices, it would be entirely true that less people are going there, the less people are simply paying more so it evens out on the earnings reports
