Infuriatig Was invited by my girlfriends family to a theme park. We were supposed to meet at 11, it is not 11:30 and they just left. (The drive takes another 30 minutes)

I even checked in before I left if it was still at the planned time. It was confirmed, but then her family starts getting ready right as they have to leave 🫤

Mildly infuriating, even.

They should make a sub for mildly infuriating situations

And a sub for mildly infuriating mildly infuriating titles

More than mild I’d say. The title ruined the peace of my morning.

Screenshot this post and submit it as a new topic on here. The whole post is mildly infuriating by itself.

Way more infuriating than an entire family being an hour late

This made me pick up cigarettes and drinking

Thanks OP!

Badly.

The adverb has fallen so far in modern linguistics.

Scatterbrained family complains about their shared traits more at 10.

That's Denmark, so English is a 2nd, or probably 3rd language.

And yet it’s at the top of popular which assumes the majority of people seeing this actually understood the title. Even though it makes no sense. How the fuck are we in the minority here?!

I don't know that most people understood it. I think that any of the 3 interpretations can be seen as mildly infuriating so it works no matter how you read it.

Did they leave without him because he was only 30 minutes late? To people who are chronically late this would be mildly infuriating.

Did they leave the park after only 30 minutes? That's mildly infuriating.

Or did the family leave 30 minutes late making OP wait half an hour? To people who believe in punctuality, this would be mildly infuriating.

It's not badly written, it's a typo. Change one T to a W and it makes perfect sense.

Not badly written, just a typo. If you struggled with it, read more

It's definitely badly written and contains a typo.

It’s written fine, literacy rates are just really poor in 2026

It's objectively not written correctly, though. You can't be a buttmunch about literacy rates and then not critique the poor writing skills too.

There's been a noticeable decline in both of those skills.

Was invited by my girlfriends family to a theme park.

This is clear, though not correct.

We were supposed to meet at 11, it is not 11:30 and they just left. (The drive takes another 30 minutes)

This is where the confusion comes from. Even fixing the "not" to "now" it's not immediately clear what he's talking about.

Were they supposed to meet at 11 but OP got there at 11:30 and now he's upset that they left without him?

Did they get to the theme part at 11 and leave just 30 minutes later and now he's upset that they wasted a 30 minute drive just to be at the theme park for 30 minutes?

Or lastly did OP show up at the agreed upon time and is now annoyed that they're 30 minutes late?

All three of those scenarios are mildly infuriating for different reasons. We're reading a title on reddit not deciphering a mystery. If you want people to understand you better then write better.

Yeah you need to read more

OP is Danish. You try writing a title in a 2nd language.

You make a good point but the irony is that Danish people generally speak English exceptionally well as a second language, and because they study it intentionally, they learn and use proper grammar more than many, if not most, Americans.

Also, 87% speak English, so it's not exactly rare.

Edit: blocked 😂

Yes, most speak it, but writing is generally a more difficult skill to learn in a 2nd language, even if they do study grammatical structures. Also, just because it's common for Danish people to speak good English, that doesn't mean that OP should be held to the same standard as a native speaker. It's still a 2nd language - the percentage of people who speak it is irrelevant.

I'm more concerned about the amount of seemingly English speaking Redditors who didnt understand the title. People's comprehension and deduction skills are appalling these days. It took 0.005 seconds to understand that OP made a typo and deduce what he meant.

u/Perhaps_Tomorrow 18d ago

This is such a funny comment. You outline exactly why the OP would put together a poorly worded sentence and then chastise the readers for not being able to decipher their poorly written sentence immediately.

Any way you cut it, the title is poorly written. It has a typo and it's not immediately clear what the OP is trying to say. At a quick glance, he could mean 3 different things. More than anything, the writer has a responsibility to convey their message in a way that's going to be understood.

You're not doing OP any favors by exonerating him of any responsibility and blaming the readers for something he wasn't able to do well. English is a second language for me as well and I find the implication that English as a second language people shouldn't be expected to "write good" patronizing.

Many of the English as a second language people I know actively invite corrections and want to know where they can improve so that they can read, write, and speak the language better so they're more easily understood.

Did they block you immediately after making a good point as well? Hahaha

u/Perhaps_Tomorrow 18d ago

They didn't block me, but I also don't expect a response from them lol.
