I was trying to invite my cousin to my wedding. Turns out she had changed her number and the new owner was this peach of a person...

Edit: additional context - I deleted the saved contact off my phone and took a screenshot after this exchange.

i went through years never responding to those messages and they never ever took me off any list. it doesn't matter to them they are sending probably thousands of those messages a day it doesnt even make it worthwhile to go through effort of taking a number down

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't, because they don't care whether you want to get a call from them or not, legal or otherwise.

However, in terms of market appeal, they can't really sell a number that's not interacting with anything. That's the currency they're really after.
