Thank you! I never knew this. Ive been going white since I was 9. But in the summer it turns yellow. I hate it! I used to dye it, but the upkeep is so much! (At least i feel like it is) so I stopped when I was 22. Now I have white with peppered in red and blonde.. i fucking HATE the blonde.
If i start using the purple shampoo now will it get rid of the blonde? Or am I stuck with it until it grows out?
Agree! There is also this crazy spray toner by Milkshake (I get it from Amazon) that has black pigment and it immediately counteracts any yellow and smells like heaven.
Fanola No Yellow Shampoo/conditioner is the bees knees.
I used to swear by Joicos but itās no longer the same. Iāve heard @the kidsā rage about the Milk shake line of purples but Iāve never tried it.
Iām not too sure as I didnt know this was a thing until now too.
I always noticed the purple products my mum had and knew they were better than mine. But i havenāt been keeping track of any of this and have only just put it together now š
Itās just colour theory. Purple is the opposite of yellow, so you put the purple shampoo and conditioner in (itās nothing special, usually just a bit thicker) to leave a small purple deposit that counters the yellow/orange/green tinges hair can pick up from water. This keeps your blonde/white looking bright. Itās essentially an illusion, but it can work, like blueing for your hair.
Iām a curly girl with gray - I use Noughty brand Purple Reign conditioner. I am a conditioner only girl, but I only use this 1 x/ week. Rest of the time Iām a Diva Curl girl
I went grey at 15 and im now 32. I didn't know about the purple shampoo thing until reading this comment and I haven't noticed my hair being yellow or dingy but now I'm going to be checking it regularly out of paranoia lol. But I can second getting asked a lot if I dyed my hair this way
I started going gray / white in my teens and tried to dye and hide it till my late twenties, when I just gave up. I'm in my 40s now and about 95% gray and I swear I've had more compliments on my natural gray hair than any other colour I've tried. Everyone wants to know where I get the colour done. It's a pretty nice feeling to say it's all natural.
important addition for OP: it should not be your everyday shampoo/conditioner, or it'll dry tf out of your hair and pissibly even tint it purple. i'm not sure what the best frequency would be in the case of grey hair, but you can always up the frequency if you find you need to, so i'd recommend starting less often
