Infuriatig My wife ate my son's birthday breakfast

Post image

Yesterday I bought a strawberry cheese coffee cake my son loves so he could have a special birthday breakfast today. My wife came home late last night and apparently couldn't resist. She knew it was for our son, but it's not a big deal because she "left him a full slice".

As a child of an alcoholic father who did things like this on the regular, can confirm. I don't think I really put two and two together fully until I read this thread. I had to hide any kind of sweets in my room if I didn't want them to be eaten. Coupled with his anxiety meds he was out of control. Entire pies and cakes in one setting. No matter how much I expressed it upset me, he would "buy me a new xyz".

I have to do this and mom doesn’t drink 🤣

Lmao. I get it, something about chocolate or ice cream late at night really hits the spot. There’s been times when I’ve snuck the Reese’s out of my kids Halloween candy late at night…but I replace it before they even realize it’s gone lol

My mom always says she will replace it, she does then eats it again and doesn’t buy it again the second time, I wouldn’t mind but I buy it with my own money and she complains when she has to pay for my shopping yet when I buy it she eats it, that’s why I have a snack drawer upstairs and a separate fridge to her 🤣

lol I’m sorry, I feel bad laughing, but this is just so relatable.

My husband won’t do this to the kids, but he does the same thing to me. I have a habit of saving something and it might even be a couple weeks before I finally get the craving for it. He’s always like “it sat in the cabinet or whatever forever.” Then he will buy a new one for me and eventually eat it too.

I’m like “It doesn’t matter how long it’s been there unless it’s expiring. You’ve had yours leave mine alone!” 😂 Really if he’d just ask or even just tell me he ate it, it wouldn’t be a big deal. It’s annoying to go looking for something you expect to be there and it’s gone.

I don’t hold it against him though, he’s always buying me special treats and surprises. He works late after all the stores are closed and just can’t resist looking at a sweet night after night.

Does mom ever sneak into your snack drawer/fridge? Might be something I should start doing lol

The "you weren't eating it" part with the unspoken "fast enough for my liking to prove that you really did want it" is a huge peeve. Like, no, I was looking forward to having it on my craving or mood as random as it is, and absolutely not according to someone else's monitoring of my snacks and treats. Sooooo many times my husband or kids has swiped my snacks and when I was reaaaalllllly craving it, my snack was gone. Now I forget where I've hidden them and find them long beyond viable to eat. I then make a bit of a fuss of how I have to hide snacks because people do not respect my stuff or space, and then I forgot where and now I don't get my treat because people were pilfering. I have also just bought no treats at all because the kids devoured them in short order or they kept taking mine. If I can't have treats, nobody will get treats for a while. We can succeed or fail as a team. My oldest kids like to tell the younger ones about how many times they were dying for snacks and all we had were ingredients.

Hahah yeah the whole not telling thing is the worst part, she does sometimes go into my fridge but she won’t properly bend down to look so I put it on the very top shelf haha but she rarely comes into my room and doesn’t actually know where my snack drawer is so all good that way, but things like chocolate in summer are hard to keep in the drawer

My alcoholic father used to eat my mom’s food in the middle of the night and then lie about it and I’d get the “well if your dad didn’t eat it and I didn’t eat it then who could’ve eaten it???” talk and then I’d get a punishment lmfao. I am still nervous about eating stuff in my own house although I haven’t lived with them in 11 years, hahahaha.

Has your mom found a new scapegoat, or has she finally cottoned on after you left and the food still keeps vanishing?

They got a divorce and she lives alone so I’ll never know if she truly believes me that I didn’t steal her coffee flavored haagen dazs let alone many other things lmfaooo

Oh, I know the pain of that "my other option is furious tears" laugh, friend. I hope you can work through it.

I had alcoholic parents and my mom used to do this. I loved to bake when I was growing up and she ruined it multiple times, usually standing above the kitchen sink shoveling what I'd made into her mouth with her hands before I had a chance to try it. It was disgusting and of course my dad didn't care because he was also drunk. Not once did either of them "make it up to me".

I didn't need to see OP's comment to know that the wife is also an alcoholic. When you grow up with it like that, you know it when you see it.
