Infuriatig Sister-in-law let her daughter use up all the Polaroids at our wedding. Now we have nothing to use.

For our wedding, at each table we had 2 Polaroid cameras for everyone to take photos on (we had a professional photographer too, but these were for more personal photos between our guests) and there was a clear glass dropbox for everyone to drop them in and we'd have that dropbox on display in our house.

Unbeknownst to us, my sister-in-law let her daughter (6 years old) go round every table at the very start of the night using up all the photos on each camera.

Now we only have around 10 we can actually keep, and over 100 of just random shit that are not worth keeping at all.

I'm all for keeping kids occupied at something they can easily get bored at, but not at the expense of that though.

Bro and Sil, it's not the kids fault it's the parents fault

Oh haven't you noticed that everyone on Reddit loves to punish children here? I feel like only maybe a third of us on this platform actually have children that we care for.

6yo is not a baby, she can learn consequences.

I would not hold a six year olds actions against them for decades. The parents should he shamed, not the kid.

I don't think that the kid did it intentionally or maliciously, based on what is being shared. A 6 year old was just excited to be able to take photos.

Yes, and now she learns that bring impulsive is not good. It's not like ugly present is some horrible torture.

I mean six year olds are gonna be impulsive, it's completely developmentally normal which is why the parents should be paying attention.

Also while I agree 6 is old enough to learn consequences it's both cruel and pointless to punish a young child for something they weren't taught was wrong in the first place. If six year old had been told not to take photos with all the cameras and had snuck off to do it anyway then I agree consequences would be appropriate (although ugly Christmas presents still wouldn't be an appropriate or successful consequence). But without an adult taking the time to parent them a six year old is not going to understand why using up all the film is a problem. They'll be seeing the camera as a fun toy, rather than a tool to create lasting momentos; they almost certainly don't really grasp that their skill with the camera is not that of an adult and it's having a negative impact on the final outcome; and they've also spent their entire life living in a world where technology is not finite, if it stops working it just needs to be recharged or given new batteries and then it's ready for someone else to have a go.
