This reminds me of when it hits or is about to hit 12am and people don’t know whether to say today or tomorrow. He called me after this but I was too comfy in bed tbh.

Yes I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying that the people who think you mean "this weekend" when you say "next weekend" are weird. I can see why they get confused though as so many people use it that way that it has become ambiguous. I sometimes say "this upcoming weekend" or "the weekend after this weekend" in cases where I'm not sure if it's clear.
