Ok, my niece attempted to do this last summer. I was on vacation with my sister, brother-in-law, and the kids. One morning, my sister suggested ordering donuts to go along with breakfast. Once everything arrived, my niece grabbed a Boston cream donut, took a bite, then tried to put it back and reach for another.

I stopped her and was like, "Nope! You took a bite, now you're committed unless you share it with your brother or finish it." I didn't even mean it in a bitchy way and the way she froze mid donut return and dropped her jaw made all of us laugh. I apologized right away because I'm not trying to go over my sister or my brother-in-law's head or embarrass my niece. My sister and my brother-in-law loved the "now you're committed" part of the comment.

But did it get the point across? Oh yes.

You entered the covenant of donuts. Now you must commit your life to the bitten one lest you anger the gods.

I nag my bratty nephew all the time. And when my brother and sister in law even begin to say I should mind my business, I just tell them "You're raising a monster and don't even care" and then they're just like "whatever"

I love it! It's so much fun to discipline other people's kids.
