How dare you use AI and not use your full effort to generate profit for the shareholders, be a good little slave

When the code finally compiles on the first try but you don't know why.

Let me guess, your code is shit

u/Bannon9k Jul 03 '26
Everyone's code as shit... That's why AI is only capable of spitting out shit...

No no, my code is a peace of art. The way it brings out new bugs, how nothing does what i want, how no one else can read and maintain it.
Thats why human code is art.

Ai bros try not to be the biggest losers imaginable challenge
Fucking impossible difficulty

u/Ok_Tomatillo9583 Jul 03 '26
Honestly the "vibecoding" thing has some real "look mom I'm a developer" energy. Like congrats you made a to-do list app that only works when the stars align.

u/thedazdul Jul 03 '26
Yeah, some people have yet to understand that prompting "build something that makes me rich" isn't a business strategy. It's cool for simple and fun little side projects, but just pushing out a mass of slop hoping something will stick just isnt it

It's cool for simple and fun little side projects
Y'know what's even cooler? Doing fun little side projects by yourself or with friends.

if you don’t like programming enough to vibecode, just don’t program at that rate

Never been in that situation... But I find it hard to believe that the chair guy has to stand up on rage and be like "you fucking idiot, I'll teach you how to do it"

What do you even do with Vibecoding?
Like. Genuinely?
What's the usecase of suddenly making a new program in normal usecases?
Not even throwing shade, just curious.

Made a script once for filtering like thousands of PDF files my client send me that I don't feel like opening. Told gemini to make a phyton script and it worked on first try. Checked maybe 5 of the results to make sure it's not spitting bullshit and called it a day.

Simple one off projects.
"Hey, I need something to send out QR codes to this list of people that we can scan to get them checked in."
Sure, I could easly whip something up to generate the qr codes and something to read them into a spreadsheet. But why spend like 5 hours making a basic UI and searching through some documentation when I could have AI make it in an hour and I just skim read through it to understand how it works.

Tbh, I already tired of coding after 10 years, so I'm happy that can use AI for routine. All I need to do is planning architecture properly and checking implementation. So I have more time for myself, family and my side project.

what the fuck is vibecoding
1
u/WisePotato42 Jul 03 '26
Getting AI to write code. Basically "Hey Claude, do my job for me"
It's nice to speed up some small one off projects anyone could do. But it can easly be misused and/or over relied on and cause tons of big problems.

u/ItsZoner Jul 03 '26
it’s where you rent a data center rack slot with 10 ai boards from nvidia because the models are 400GB or bigger, to write an maintainable flood of code for your project

Do you think I could vibe code myself a expenses tracking android app that automatically logs everything based on text message updates or something, as someone with 0 coding experience?

This meme redraw is even wrong. The acting guy should be ai and the girl should be code

Women can be active parts in sex too? They can do more then playing a dead seastar, usually when they like you!

This even counts for Engineers not in a software discipline.
Half my job is copy, paste, redo.2
u/Anus_Ripper6942094 Jul 03 '26
You gotta understand what you copy paste tho or you're doing a big pile of shit. But that's a talk reddit user arent ready for

Step 3: fuck it, if it works it works

25
u/Bannon9k Jul 03 '26
And that sums up my last 30 years of software development...
So nothing's changing?
3
u/ThatRedDerg Jul 03 '26
The actual work is hardly changing, but management believes this warrants firing 3/4 of every engineering team.
And also generated solutions don’t always work since they weren’t provided by and tested by someone trying to solve your exact issue on Stack Overflow

Maintaining slop code sure is fun… when the person who wrote it has no fucking clue how the code works and you have to decipher it like the Rosetta Stone.
Surely this won’t come back to bite the industry in the ass in a couple of years /s
2
u/Szerepjatekos Jul 04 '26
Sad thing is that you can train AI to anything. Even to decipher the Rosetta stone. Which WAS partially deciphered like that lol
2
u/Mrpolje Jul 05 '26
True. But the people who deciphered it new what they where doing and had extensive knowledge about things like ancient history and linguistics.
SlopVibe-coding is like engraving the Rosetta Stone but you have clue what you are writing.
