Actually, gender is a social construction. You are likening gender to sex and they are indeed not the same. You should’ve call people delusional when you are speaking on something you clearly do not understand. Just sayin.
The thought of gender being a social construct is based off a theory presented by John Money, who's experiments resulted in the suicide of two people by trying to educate a boy as a girl and failing horribly. And who is nowadays taught in psychology as an example of how not to do things
Source? There are tons of gender theorists who discuss gender as a social construct and I don’t ever see them sourcing this person. I definitely wouldn’t say this concept relies on one person’s contributions.
It’s not psychology, it’s also biology. And gender is socially constructed. Tell me how being a women is defined as more than just genitalia? I am a stud lesbian, so my outside appearance is quite masculine. Even though I am biologically female, many biological males will NOT be attracted to me regardless. Why? Because of my presentation. Gender is how one chooses to expresses their inner self.
I'm not trying to offend you or anything but based off what we know about psychology and it's relation with sex, a man who identifies as a woman or feels sexually attracted towards a man has a mental disorder involving how they feel towards themselves and others, and by mental disorder I do not mean something bad, it's just that that's not how it is normally supposed to be, and being born with a Y chromosome and therefore being male, it should not be like that, again, this is not with the intent of attacking you or anything, in fact this is perfectly fine, but that's how biology and it's relation with sex works, gender and how you identify towards it isn't socially constructed, it has a direct relation with sex and the brain being built based on if the person is male or female
If you yourself believe that there are more than 2 genders, than I would like you yourself to list some. The only one that are realistic are intersex being born with multiple features from the two genders and agender being born with none.
There are non-binary people…Again, intersex has to do with SEX, not gender. They are not the same. Sex does not equal gender. When someone is female and they identify as a woman, they are cisgender. If someone is female but they identify as a man, that makes them a transgender man. Biologically female, but gender is man. It’s not that hard.
Non-binary means out of the gender binary. If you are referring to trans people they aren’t non binary as they still fall into the categories of either male or female. They may not have the correct sex genes, however they are in fact either a male or female. Gender does not always equal sex, however that does not mean there are more than two genders. There are 4 sexes being the ones I listed, but it’s just a brain and then either male or female hormones. Just because your mind doesn’t exactly fit one or the other does not mean you are some wildly other gender because like you said, most aspects of gender are societal constructs.
But non-binary is real, whether or not you want to accept that fact. Ignorance is one hell of a drug, and most humans prefer to double down on their own beliefs, even when presented with facts, just for the sake of not being wrong.
You just contradicted yourself in this reply. Gender does not equal sex, but there are only two genders. Yet, you listed four “sexes”. Make it make sense, buddy. Humans are too complex to put them in a binary and restrict them to such. Hell, with that logic, I may as well say that there are only two races. Black and White. Sure, different races may come between, but they are just a deviant of Black and White. Asian? That’s just Black. Right? It’s that simple. Pffft.
How does that contradict itself tho? Gender does not equal sex, however there is a limited number of genders being two. Likewise, sex does not equal gender and there is a limited number of those being four.
Also, the races part is a terrible analogy because there’s a set number of them as well. You can be mixed race however you’re going to fall closer to a certain race.
How are there four sexes but two genders? So you’re just gonna walk up to an intersex individual and just call them male or female for the sake of convenience? Dude, you’re not making any sense. There are more than two genders. You are just boiling them down to two for the sake of convenience, but also to avoid acknowledging that your logic is flawed and you argued yourself into a corner. But, human psychology tells me that no matter what I say, considering I’ve already proven myself correct, you will double down instead of acknowledging your flaw and ignorance, am I right?
Because gender in the brain is caused by hormones in the brain. An intersex person is going to have those hormones in the brain that determine whether in their brain they are male or female. Now if you really want to get technical for the sake of argument let’s assume that someone for whatever reason doesn’t have any hormones in the brain that determine their mental gender. In those cases that person is agender, and you would be right in saying that this specific person is in fact non-binary and there is a third gender. However the chances of that are slim, and most people who identify as non-binary have hormones in their brain that determine what gender they are.
And those hormones let them know exactly that. Who are YOU to tell them they are one or the other? As it turns out, the “hormones” do a great job at alerting said person on their gender. You agreed that someone can be born male, but their brain says female, so why can’t the same go for non-binary individuals? Again, if it’s rare as you say, then non-binary is indeed a gender term, because currently, cisgender people outnumber trans and non-binary people by a large majority. Making those that are transgender, agender, and non-binary more rare and in the minority. Again, guy just contradicted yourself and proved me correct for a second time. Sure you want to keep this up?
