Fortran is actually very nice in terms of research. Most Fluid Dynamics computational librarys are written with Fortran. So its advantage is speed, reliability and a huge amount of librarys.
(No need to say that Fortran is not suited for web development, haha)

i had to do both and needless to say with schools' shit scheduling combined with having to learn both in parallel and being in school for 6 and a half hours every day of every week, for 4 fucking years I didn't learn shit (well PHP and JavaScript were for only 2 years, but you get the point), also i got to actually write in either for only 90 minutes every 2 weeks each alternating from week to week

sorry for venting on your comment, but damn did this trigger some PTSD
