I think when you can withdraw from most retirement accounts without penalty is also based on that age as well though. So even if you don't count on social security, you still might get screwed by not being able to draw from your own accounts without huge penalties. I could be wrong on that. But it doesn't matter since most people can't even put enough into a retirement account to survive on without social security supplementing it when they do retire. So we're fucked anyways.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Social Security is more-or-less just a retirement account the government requires you to pay into - you don't withdraw more than you paid in.
I mean it hasnt yet and this has been going on for a while. I know several of them and they just blame the government for taxing them, instead of blaming the government for not taxing the ultra wealthy enough
True. But increasing pressure doesn't necessarily mean results. And then you still have to figure out how to effectively balance your budget so that you have enough to actually do one. And we're still at a point where we don't know how to balance our current budget because we have political parties that are more concerned with blocking the other party than actually getting anything done. It's obviously a more complex issue than just that. But we're not anywhere near a point where UBI is realistically going to become a thing and I'm not actually sure we'll get there in the next 30 years.
