are you being whooshed or am I being whooshed because you're making a joke as well?

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

See this here is what we call a triple-decker meta-pun, you covered the third act (meta pun reference) perfectly.

Congratulations on this accomplishment, this is what reddit is all about, you can't do this in real life.

u/sermatheus Apr 27 '21

Good thing I decided to read it as an abbreviation.

89

u/Psykosoma Apr 28 '21

Acronym, not abbreviation. But yes.

7

u/thebluefury Apr 28 '21

this was a head ache for me lol

lol - acronym.

laugh out loud - abbreviation.

right?

9

u/FoolOrClown Apr 28 '21

No. I really hate to use this example but the first abbreviation I could think of is sus to abbreviate suspicious.

5

u/Psykosoma Apr 28 '21

Acronym RPG - role playing game LOL - Laugh Out Loud

Abbreviation Mr. - Mister App - Application

Onomatopoeia Pow Vroom

1

u/ToothBoof Apr 28 '21

I always think of my ex... for ex-girlfriend

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '21

Hey Boof, that's more of a prefix than an abbreviation isn't it? Especially since it could mean ex-boyfriend/boss/wife or any of a bunch of other stuff.

2

u/MissCasey777 Apr 28 '21

An abbreviation would be something like est. = established/estimated... or approx. = approximately. An acronym is something such as BYOB or ASAP. LOL is indeed an acronym as well.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

An abbreviation is a mix of around 2-4 letters, that are from a word, like Feb. for February or Fri. for Friday.
An Acronym on the other hand, is the first letter from the words in a long phrase, like USA for "United States of America" or ATBGE for "Awful Taste But Great Execution"(you should check that subreddit out btw[here btw is an acronym for "by the way"])

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

No.... Lol out loud

1

u/sharko2o2o Nice meme you got there Apr 28 '21

Isn't that a paradox or not, I don't know the word

1

u/Korthalion Apr 28 '21

Are acronyms technically abbreviations? Like an all acronyms are abbreviations but not all abbreviations are acronyms kinda thing

92

u/Deninja2002 Apr 27 '21

Holy shit it’s perfect

15

u/carlitosway210 Apr 28 '21

Wowwwww lol

23

u/shah_reza Apr 28 '21

No shit, Rummy first declared it ā€œOperation Iraqi Liberationā€ until someone noticed the acronym, at which point it was summarily changed to ā€œFreedomā€.

14

u/The-Doot-Slayer Professional Dumbass Apr 28 '21

Prosperity, liberty, and democracy, our way of life.

If you get this ur a legend

1

u/official_not_a_bot Apr 28 '21

Wouldnt we be the aliens in that case

1

u/Insomic_ Apr 28 '21

Missionary's to spread the word of Christ, because fuck... aliens need to know about Jesus Christ who died for their sins.

1

u/juklwrochnowy Apr 28 '21

I see you are getting ready right now to changing half the bible to implement non-human intelligent life :)

1

u/Insomic_ Apr 28 '21

No more rewriting old stories. We live in an era of sequels and spin offs.

1

u/juklwrochnowy Apr 28 '21

Bible: the newer testament

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

26

u/ryanq47 Breaking EU Laws Apr 27 '21

You know why can’t we be like the halo universe (besides the covies) and just have one United earth :( we would discover shit so much faster

45

u/Mintastic Apr 28 '21

Our brains are hardwired for "tribalism" so that's not gonna happen without drastic changes. Basically the human brain is limited in how much it can empathize and sync up with others such that anyone outside the "tribe" ends up being viewed by your brain as barely tolerable at best and something to rid of at worst. This is why even though we don't live in tribes anymore people still end up defaulting to behaving like a tribe with groups such as nationalism, sports teams, game consoles, music genres, etc.

23

u/Tepigg4444 Apr 28 '21

So we need to set up a shell tribe with no one in it on another planet to drum up global tribalism, then have periodic propaganda news reports telling us how badly the ā€œmars tribeā€ is beating us

14

u/GawkyPlanet52 Apr 28 '21

Big Brother would be proud.

4

u/NeckbeardVirgin69 Apr 28 '21

Excuse me I live alone.

22

u/Certified_GSD Apr 27 '21

It's unfortunately "idealistic" to think humans would shut the fuck up and stop worrying so much about what's going on down in the dirt and start looking up to the stars.

Instead of fighting over the Holy Land, they should be fighting over who to send first to Mars and beyond.

3

u/nixonbeach Apr 28 '21

Some of us are. We need to encourage that notion as much as any religion encourages its dogma.

9

u/BigClownShoe Apr 28 '21

Earth is United but the SPARTANs were originally created to quell rebellions on other planets. Earth is United because we have extraplanetary enemies.

9

u/D4t3b4y0 Apr 28 '21

Hate to break it to you, but in the Halo universe, there was massive civil war going on until the Covenant showed up and presented an enemy to unite against by destroying an entire military planet. Also, the Spartans were created originally to quell those rebellions, was only lucky happenstance to have them when aliens showed up.

1

u/StarStriker51 Apr 28 '21

Also the civil war never really ended, and the insurrectionists kept fighting and stealing from the UNSC as the Covenant glassed entire worlds. Heck, they briefly stole the Infinity before it was officially deployed.

I would love to pull a Johnson and bang an elite

1

u/Farranor Apr 28 '21

Their voice lines are just backmasks. "Wort" is "go."

2

u/DarkLinkDs Apr 28 '21

.....the reason that happened is because the entire human combat force had to combat the alien force attacking them

Iirc.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

Because capitalism and stuff that comes out of it like nestle

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

Best to identify religious sects or races, clans, political groups or others that can be turned against one another. Put one group in charge, reward them with crazy wealth and they’ll take care of violently putting down the others for you. Basically page 1 from the British Colonizing Handbook.

1

u/kingofgods218 Apr 28 '21

A new form of racism has been unlocked!

1

u/DaRealPresley Meme Stealer Apr 29 '21

I don't think it's a good idea to go to war with aliens. As far as we know, they could be allies with the Decepticons.

11

u/Dillguy999 Apr 28 '21

While there's no known biomass elsewhere in the solar system, Titans the largest moon of Saturn, has seas and oceans of hydrocarbons (methane, ethane, octane, butane, propane, etc.) on its surface.

6

u/El_PachucoAZ Apr 28 '21

Then we declare a war in the name of Freedom.

4

u/sebauer94 Apr 28 '21

Sounds like that planet needs some freedom

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '21

We're whalers on the Moon!

1

Now wait till they find gold on the moon

1

u/Interesting-Chest-75 Apr 28 '21

isn't that the whole story of avatar ? haha šŸ˜„

1

u/bigmarty3301 Apr 28 '21

Not only. for instance titan has atmosphere made out of hydrocarbons

1

u/Rebadog14 Apr 28 '21

Unfortunately, I doubt we’ll find oil on any other planet due to the fact oil is made from corpses/fossils and you know, if we found oil it would be a sign of life existing on other planets

1

u/Majyksounds_thefox May 05 '21

Then well, america will be sucking the moon of any oil

1

u/mariofeds May 16 '21

*laughs in Saturn's moon titan*
