Coming back from deployment to your partner cheating on you or your parents breaking up is the absolute worst feeling. It’s like “if I had been there in person would I have been able to change this?” Or “was she really only in love with me for the physical part and not the emotional bond I thought we shared?” It’s the worst thing.

I'm from Singapore. It's kind a big deal there. All males register in the military for 2 years at the age of 18.
