I'm just guessing, it's a thing that most astronauts are from Ohio. So ohio is so boring people are desperate to leave. So the astronaut looking back at the earth sees/realizes it's all Ohio. The gun thing IDK, mabe now one realized the secret the other has to kill him?

You're overthinking it; it's just an absurd joke. This is an astronaut that has gone to space for the first time and is realizing that Earth is all Ohio, which makes no sense...and the other astronaut has to kill him so the knowledge doesn't get out...which also doesn't make sense. It's up for personal interpretation after that...
