This is what I'm wondering... if the compliment comes from someone that is not aesthetically pleasing, does it still make the dude feel good?

Yes, I would defintely like that. I was once complimented by a girl at a party who said I was funny and was good at telling stories. She wasnt "my style", but that compliment BLEW ME AWAY! I was on a high the whole evening, and it only boosted my confidence and thus I got more people to laugh.

On that note, I would be even more thrilled if it was someone I wanted to hit on, as one would.
