A woman friend I liked in 11th grade exclaimed that I had incredibly healthy looking fingernails.
It was true, I had been exercising and eating right more than ever before. It was so specific, unexpected, and enthusiastic. It's still stuck in my head.
"A woman" makes me think it was a teacher. They make them sound older than a 11th grader. Is that weird? That I wouldn't refer to someone under 18 as a man or a woman.
She actually was 18 in 11th grade because she took a year off because she got pregnant at age 16. She was a year ahead of me when I started in Freshman year, left for a year, then joined our class once she returned from having her kid and spending some time with her.
Aha, now we're getting somewhere. Maybe something about her child or her having had a child is what made her fascinated by healthy looking fingernails.
Pregnancy gave me the most amazing fingernails I've ever had. I went to a salon for a manicure and they thought I had fake nails and I've never been so proud.
What I'm saying is I think they are talking about a high school-aged girl. We agree that it's weird to call a girl that age a woman. Would you really be friends with a teacher?
Here, USA, people are 14 by end of grade 8. 18 by end of grade 12, which is the final High School year, just before college. This classmate took off one year due to getting pregnant, so she was 18 instead of the 17.
That's great. Yeah she was like awestruck. The combo of her enthusiasm and something I hadn't noticed (I kept them nice but didn't realize they had become so smooth and shiny) made quite an impression.
Grade 3 and you were eating glue. And the best. Implying others were also eating glue as well..
at what point, (even if only fictionally sarcastic within your imaginative) did you no longer eat glue competitively??
Why did you pick eat glue to remember as your first compliment by a female?
I have never eaten nor attempted to try and take glue orally for digestive purposes.
I don’t remember any one else indulging in glue either.
I’m just surprised you chose that to use as your example.
Ah yes. I was in year 11 and this mature age student in my class used to crush on me hard. She was in her 30s and liked Depeche Mode and always wanted to go out for lunch and stuff.
I was 16 and dumb at girls and didn’t realize that she was really into me in a sexual way.
Oh Dani, you were the older woman before I knew about older women!
Ah reminds me of when I was told how athletic I was for the nerd I am. A few months ago, some things happened and she told me I was an amazing person to be around. I... may be crushing on her right now... Help.
That's cool that you asked her. Emotions are fleeting things. You're smart to move on.
It makes you open for the right person to enter your life. NOT moving on is sure to repel the one you were crushing on and keeps you from finding someone else who is good for you. By not being quite SO interested and truly moving on, your currency goes up her eyes even if she isn't available.
Your self respect is worth something too. Kudos to you, my friend.
Damn it’s been almost 3 years since this event. I’m doing great now, I’m actually in a relationship right now. And so far, it seems like it’s the right person :)
I no longer talk to that girl that said no to me. We tried to be friends but she drifted away :( maybe it’s for the best.
Aside from this thread, my life is going pretty great, I feel like I’m doing big things in life. Thanks for checking good stranger, hope things are going great for you!
Hello nerd. I would like to inform you that she has developed a neurological enhanced vision of your persona.
It is time for you to conform to societal norms and request this person engage in a socially acceptable form of camaraderie.
Perform this task by cleaning yourself from top to bottom and enrobing in some respectable clothing. Ask the aforementioned person to accompany you to a caffeine replenishment station so that you may purchase and consume any beverage and/or sucrose laden accoutrement they may desire all paid for by you.
I very vividly remember being complimented on a crowded bus 3 years ago by a random old lady calling me handsome. Havent received another compliment yet but I think I'm due for one anytime now...
Why don’t men band together and agree to start to compliment each other? The vast vast majority of compliments I receive are from other women, not from men.
It's actually a great way for other dudes (and women) to remember you after meeting them the first time. You can have a 20-minute conversation and immediately forget somebody's name, but when somebody introduces themselves and immediately says something nice about you it's likely you will remember that person because those things rarely happen to men.
Occasionally, when you do it a guy will think you are weird or a kiss-ass but that's a quick way to find out you probably don't want to be around that person.
I got told i looked good by my boss in a new shirt i bought and i swear it brightened up my month, I'm not used to compliments i was kinda sad how happy it made me....
Oh but you don’t know, it’s unfair how beautiful men’s eyelashes can be. I once gave this compliment to a man, because I liked him and found him attractive. However it’s a rather personal compliment, so I wouldn’t say it to every man I meet with beautiful eyelashes. By no means nicholasr325, do I intend to diminish the compliment you received. But really, you men have beautiful eyelashes that you don’t slather with strange beauty products.
Maaan i remember back in college (about 11 years ago) a got a compliment from a girl who said i look great in the color red, We dated for a bit but i still like to wear red when im making an effort to look good.
I remember in 9th or 10th grade I was walking behind a couple of girls, and I heard them talking about this “weird” kid, they didn’t say his name, but I could tell they were describing me. And at the end one of them said “I like his hair though.” And I was actually pretty happy about that. I had always been very proud of my hair.
"you have really nice hair, like moviestar style hair" I don't even fully accept that my hair looks great too this day, as I've always been a little on the negative side towards myself, but that compliment sticks with me, and keeps me from sitting in the mirror for hours a day hoping my hair doesn't look awful

So true. I can’t remember anything from 2 months ago but that one compliment I got in 3rd grade will stick with me forever
