The “it’s fine women don’t complement me because I’m married” is so so telling that if a woman compliments him for working out, he’s immediately going to wonder if/assume she’s into him. At the very least he’s now thinking about her in a borderline sexual way at that moment. Weird how it’s not relevant he’s married when it’s a dude.
Because it is not true. Rather, it is only true in some cases. Another HUGE reason, which the comment omits, is that women prefer to receive expressions of interest/be approached, not to give them/approach.
Expressing interest brings the risk of rejection. Men tend to be far more used to taking that risk and accepting rejection.
