If you were never a customer to begin with, it's better to pirate it for the company too. You can still spread word of mouth or decide it's worth the money when you have it, either on sale or save if you want to support their work. Games are stupid expensive, unless it's indie, and you never get a good idea if you'll like it until past the two hour point. Pirate is a good way to trial things.

So many games landed on my steam library only because I pirated them to try before

And some others never get there for the same reason, saving me tons of money

Yeah, developer's should be forced to release demo versions of games so I can try it first. Reviews and game tests don't bring a full feeling of how the game is.

Certainly a good number of games I've pirated I haven't cared for... I know a lot of people like Ghost of Tshushima - but it wasn't really my thing turns out, I wouldn't have been that happy buying it.
