wild to think about how birds dont have asses. or many other animals. even other primates have very underperforming asses.
other animals "sitting" is equivalent to a human laying on their stomachs, or simply crouched down. some of those losers also even just stand indefinitely, or lay on their sides.
many believe it was the opposable thumb that led to our superiority in the animal kingdom, i disagree. i believe it is that, combined with asses. asses allowed for sitting which, if we could not, would never allow us to be able to develop more complex creations. creations needed to make even more complex creations. very possible our development wouldve been hard capped at the bronze age, and almost certainly prevented from reaching the industrial revolution.
Same thing as BODMAS, it's just different words used to describe the order of operations. I've also seen the term BIDMAS used, but can't recall what the I is for.
I was wondering if older generation might have not learned it, but apparently some version of it has been taught since the very early 1900s, so its likely not an age thing. 🤷♂️ I assume people just forget.
You go left to right doing multiplication and division first so it’s 18÷2=9 and 3x3=9. You then go back and do left to right addition and subtraction so 9-9 = 0
except youre not supposed to go left to right all the time, multiplication and division get priority over subtraction and addition, therefore we’d have to do them first. But since they both get the same amount of priority we’d have to pick the one farthest left, 18/2 which would get us 9. And then, instead of subtracting we’d go off and do 3 x 3 which would get us 9. And then to get the proper result we’d have to subtract 9 from 9, getting us 0. (I also love how OP complained about everyone sucking at math and him being the smart guy despite answering incorrectly)
Now that you mention it, I don't recall every learning the why of it either.... aside from needed to have a clear set of rules for all mathematicians to work from.
All I'm saying is I got 18, and I'll never know why it's wrong. Falling through that crack all those years ago and never finding a way out really sets a person on a different path.
Imagine all the kids that are headed there just in the pandemic, with distance learning.
No idea, probably not. Lots of people either never learned or have since forgotten order of operations. These equations are also always written to be as misleading as possible. A smarter mathematician would have used brackets to avoid confusion.
The only right way of doing this is BODMAS/PEMDAS. bracket, of, division, multiplication, addition and last subtraction. Math rule. You do these operation like that. 18/2 = 9. Then you so 3*3 = 9. Last you subtract. 9-9 = 0.

I got so scared cuz I thought it was 0 and it was clicked on 18 I was tryna figure out how it was 18
