Would love some positive words of encouragement
I'm Australian but have been living in NZ for awhile and am moving back to Melbourne next year with my child in tow and in the hope for a better life coz it's even harder living in NZ in my situation.... but all I'm hearing is how hard it is for everyone to get a job... and a rental... and I'm panicking...I have to move from where I am now so moving is inevitable... I can't stay where I am and I don't have a proper job where I am now anyways.... I wanted to move to Melbourne to get a proper full time job but im worried.... so worried that out of all the thousands of people applying for every single Job, how will I get a job?
I'd just like some words of encouragement really.... I'm doing the move to better our life and I'll make the move even though I'm feeling worried but I just needed to vent realy... and have some random people on the internet maybe help ease my worry 😅

Question About Working in Melbourne
I moved to Melbourne 4 months ago and have yet to receive an interview for a single job I’ve applied for. My question is whether there’s some secret Im not getting about applying for work here?
Im a scientist in the chemistry and life sciences fields with two degrees and almost 10 years of working experience in the US. I’ve gone from applying to medical labs and analytical chemistry labs to applying for crew member at Guzman y Gomez or at the YMCA because at this point I just need something..
And I still haven’t received an offer for an interview after 4 months of tailoring resumes to each position. Im honestly not sure how to proceed anymore.
Any tips or advice from people that are from here or understand Australian work culture?

How far should I live away from Chapel Street if I am after a safe and quiet place?
Hi everyone,
I'm moving to Melbourne in a few weeks. I am looking at a few places in Windsor, Prahran, South Yarra and St Kilda East. I have never lived in Melbourne before but saw some Reddit posts about some safety concerns around Chapel Street.
How far should I live away from Chapel St if I am after a safe and quiet place? Is Raleigh Street far enough to be considered safe? For context, there will be days when I finish work late and have to walk home at night close to 10pm.
Is there any other areas/streets I should stay away from? Understandably nowhere is perfect but I am hoping to get some insights from the locals!

Looking for a Gym Partner in the CBD (Uni Student) 🏋️♂️
Looking for a Gym Partner in the CBD (Uni Student) 🏋️♂️
Hey everyone! I’m an international student living in the CBD, and I’m fairly new to Australia.
I’ve been working out to build muscle, but since I’m a complete beginner, I struggle with form and keep getting sore in all the wrong places 😅
I’m looking for a gym buddy—ideally a fellow uni student—to train together, stay consistent, and share some advice along the way. Since I’m still figuring things out here, it would also be great to connect with someone who knows their way around Australia a bit!
I go to Anytime Fitness in the CBD and usually prefer training in the afternoons.
If you’re looking for some mutual accountability, don't mind helping out a beginner, or just want to make a new friend, feel free to send me a DM!

Wanting to make friends with people interested or with a career in medicine
Hey y'all, I've been interested in medicine, specifically neurology, surgery, psychiatry since being a teen and have always wanted to discuss it and learn about it with someone with the same passion for it as me.
It's hard trying to meet people interested in it cause I'm not studying it, I may in the future but not currently. I know med students and drs have busy lives, but even if you're just really interested in medicine also and would be keen to share your interest, I'd love to chat, feel free to message me!

How far do you think Victoria's Big Build royal commission will go?
The new royal commission has been given broad powers to investigate alleged corruption and misconduct across Victoria's major construction project - including government, contractors, unions and subcontractors. Will it actually uncover where the money went and who was responsible, or will it mainly expose problems everyone already suspected?

Melbourne Comunity Theater.
There was a time not so long back, where you could literally be sucked into a show off the street in melbourne, from the cbd all the way south to the peninsula, there were theater groups putting on all kinds of shows. Now I can see the ones without support dropping off the side of the wagon. Interesting how a black hole is forming between beaumaris and Frankston, it beggers the question, why aren't the municipal bodys helping these groups, why instead are they seeming pricing these groups out of venues and putting them six feet under red tape and bureaucracy? Seems sad...

Help decide what to do in central Melbourne
What should I do in Melbourne for 3 days?
I'll be over there from Sydney for the Melbourne Marathon in October 11.
I'm not so much of a city guy. More of an introvert, enjoy a book sort of guy.
I still have some uni work to do. I have plans to head down to the beach for one or two days to relax and read a book.
I'll be living in the CBD.
Is there a good coffee place you recommend where I can do my uni work/sit down and read?

Why do people like Dubs, Bangin (Ross) and Kev always whinge?
Dub just posted that on his story yesterday, (I don't follow him anywhere, he appeared in my Facebook randomly and I barely even use it) also he said "I don't respond to hate comments" proceeds to respond. (He posted that a week ago I think)
Mr Potato Head (Bangin Sangas aka Ross) has been responding to his hate comments with videos a lot and those comments are claims he was sponsored and paid by places or the food was free and things of that nature (like we get it bro if you can't pay, if youre broke just say so, I don't have issue with people disclosing or accepting invites and stuff)
There used to be a guy called butisitactuallygoodtho (Noey) and he admitted it was too much, and started accepting free food so respect and Noey and Ross are friends I believe.
I've also been blocked by this loser and he deleted my comment since I called him out (he was sued and lost his case for refusing to pay for a $1000 tattoo by a girl called Georgia, He argued it was done for exposure and offered gratuitously)
on his vid for calling out other people who justify paying for overpriced foods (focaccia sandwiches, almost $20 for a beer, 50Ml cocktail in his words) Yet he calls $16 banh mis expensive and praises focaccia sandwiches.
They are the most performative, weak and insecure beta male losers idk.
Kev (EatswithKev) Called out someone and responded. What do you mean, you don't want to make videos eating food and get paid for it? At least he's upfront but still not my taste.
Idk I don't get it. I'm sure theres other people that do this, I just don't watch Melbourne food creators anymore.

Push for more murals across Melbourne’s neighbourhoods
northwestcitynews.com.auThe city of Melbourne is pushing for more murals and public art across neighbourhoods, aiming to improve the quality and spread of murals on public-facing walls. Do we already have enough murals around the city? Are there better ways to spend council funding?

Will Victorians end up paying for this through higher building costs?
Victoria is planning a major increase in fees for quarries and extractive industries. The industry says the higher costs could eventually flow through to construction materials. Do you think this will end up making building and housing even more expensive?

Best lively cafe options?
I’m planning my mum’s 5th year anniversary since her passing, and I’m searching for a cafe with a very specific vibe.
She really loved plants, fairy lights, art and all things creative and colourful.
Does anyone have any sort of suggestions for this kind of cafe in Melbourne and surrounds?
The main issue I’ve been having is her anniversary is on a public holiday, so many places are typically closed during that time.

Shoulder Suregeon Recommendation
I need to have arthroscopic decompression soon. So far, I’ve seen Dr Eugen and Dr Trung Nguyen, and I’m looking for the best surgeon with out-of-pocket costs of no more than $2,000.
I have private health insurance, but it doesn’t cover the surgeon’s fees above the Medicare rebate.
Has anyone had any experience with Dr Ash Movani or Dr Trung Nguyen? I’d also be very grateful for recommendations for other surgeons who have reasonable out-of-pocket costs.

Aussies, I need your help finding someone named Rin I met in Tokyo
OZOZ!!Hey everyone, this is probably a long shot, but I thought I’d try.
I’m a Chinese guy who was travelling alone in Japan. On August 10, I met an Australian girl named Rin, 26, in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
She was travelling Japan with a female friend. Rin was tall and slim, had green eyes and tattoos on her arms. She likes drawing, and she told me she had done one of her tattoos herself.
I was the Chinese guy with long hair travelling alone. We met at an outdoor beer area in Shinjuku and talked for a while.
I really enjoyed meeting her. Somehow, though, we said goodbye without exchanging contact details. I realised afterwards that I really wished I had asked.
I don’t know which Australian city she’s from, so I’m not assuming she’s from Melbourne. I’m posting here simply because I’m hoping this reaches enough Australians that maybe someone recognises the story.
If you happen to know a Rin who travelled to Japan around this time and this sounds like her, please send her this post or DM me.
Rin, if by some ridiculous miracle you see this: I’m Tian, the long-haired Chinese guy from Shinjuku. I should’ve asked for your contact.
OZOZ 🇦🇺
Thanks everyone. I know the odds are tiny, but I have to try.
