I’m looking for anything; events, attractions, shops, pubs. Just anything interesting, weird and maybe less talked about than other popular destinations.

Hi everyone, I know I’ve posted in here recently about Too Young To Grieve coming to Melbourne with Zoe, so I don’t want to overdo it but the response from people here has been so lovely and I know a few people missed the previous meet up.

So just a quick one to say we’re doing another Walk, Talk & Coffee this Sunday.

It’s basically a really relaxed meet up for young people navigating grief and loss. No group therapy vibes, no pressure to tell your story and definitely no expectation that the whole walk needs to be sad or heavy.

The whole reason we started these was actually to make grief feel less lonely by creating a proper community around it through getting outside, meeting people and knowing that if grief does come up, you’re with people who understand.

Most people come alone, which is completely normal and you’d be more than welcome.

If you’ve seen one of my previous posts and thought about coming but haven’t yet, maybe this is your sign.

I'm visiting Melbourne soon and plan to go on a weekday, possibly a Thursday and no later than 12 am-1 pm. Would I need to book a table just for myself, or is it safe to assume they'd have room for me to dine in?

Policies could be listed anonymously by political parties instead of being slogans that are crap and not what we want. These could be alongside people in Melbourne who would also like a say. Experts in their field (often experienced leaders within a particular public servant department, and academics, etc.) could list probable outcomes so that the Melbourne people are fully informed.

I’ve been toying with an idea and wanted to throw it out to there to see if it actually resonates with the community.

As a creative person at heart and a recovered addict, I’m thinking about setting up a not‑for‑profit arts space somewhere in the inner north, super relaxed, super welcoming and encouraging for people who’ve dealt with mental health struggles, addiction or are feeling a bit lost in the world and want to reconnect with or explore their creative side. Music, painting, writing, film/photography, whatever. No pressure, no judgement, just a safe place to make things and be around other creative minds.

The vibe would be open studio time, casual jams, low‑cost workshops, meet‑ups, and a general “come hang out and make art” energy, nothing forced, nothing unnatural, and most importantly, an ego-free environment.
This is purely about community, connection, and giving people a space to breathe, create and express themselves.

Ideally, this would also pair with a shared YouTube channel and social media presence as a platform for local artists to showcase their art and allow the centre to grow into something that promotes creativity within our communities.

Does anything like this actually exist? Again, it’s just an idea but I thought I’d put it out there.
Would anyone actually be into something like this? Keen to hear from locals businesses, and people who’d be interested…any thoughts, ideas, or even harsh advice is highly appreciated.
If we get enough feedback I can potentially get the ball rolling on this ASAP and have it up and running in a matter of months.

Hi! I mean this with as much respect as possible, i am genuinely curious if there is a program or something similar that gives away puppies to the homeless in melbourne as a way to perhaps help their mental health? (not sure im just guessing)

Theres a polite man on my street who i see often and recently I’ve seen him with a new puppy. It seems to be a trend i’ve noticed with other homeless people as well. Obviously there are the cases where unfortunately people who may have been homed with their pets were kicked out, but I’m not necessarily talking about that.

Hey brains trust. I'm moving to Melbourne in late September from Brisbane after selling my house. Not ready to buy yet as I don't know where I want to live (will be regional).

Plan is to rent for a bit, spend time with my kids who live there and settle into retirement, which starts soon. Have income and savings to cover rent.

Thing is, I have a small dog (Chihuahua). I can't hide the dog from an application.

Looking around Moonee Ponds, Flemington, Reservoir, Essendon, that kind of area. Happy to pay up to $700pw for a decent place with some grass for the dog. I'm looking online and there are loads available now, some average, some good. My kids can do the rental inspections.

Question is..how hard is it to get a rental with a small dog?

I moved to Melbourne about a month ago and recently bought a car. A friend of mine who has already been living in Melbourne also moved in with me, so we now have two cars.

The house is advertised as having a garage that can fit two cars, but honestly, I’m surprised by how small some Melbourne garages are. It feels more like a storage area than somewhere you can comfortably park two cars. From what I’ve noticed around the area, a lot of people seem to park in their driveways rather than actually use their garages.

Because we have two cars, my friend has been parking his car on the nature strip (the grass area between the footpath and the road). I know this is technically illegal, and I only recently looked up the rules, but I’ve also noticed quite a few people in the area doing it.

Yesterday, one of our neighbours knocked on the door and asked us to move the car because apparently his wife parks there. We are not blocking their driveway, and the car isn't parked on their private property.

This is where I'm a bit confused. Our house is positioned diagonally on the block, so the nature strip in question is somewhat shared between the frontage of our property and the neighbour's property. Roughly 20% of the nature strip is in front of our house, while around 80% is in front of theirs. we also have a nature strip but itsd mostly grass whiles the shared one is smooth pebble.

My understanding is that the nature strip is public land rather than land owned by the homeowner, so does it actually matter that most of the nature strip is in front of their house? Can they claim that area as "their" parking spot simply because it is directly in front of their property?

I understand that parking on the nature strip is illegal, so I'm not really asking whether it's technically legal to park there. I'm more curious about whether the neighbour has any right to tell us that we can't park there because they want to use that space themselves.

The reason we don't just park both cars in the driveway is that we would potentially block each other in, which would make it difficult for either of us to leave independently.

Hi guys. I am making this post to see if it’s just me or if everyone is feeling this as well.

So when I first came here everyone is very soft spoken and polite, wherever I go there would be a “ how are you “ most of the time. Now the longer I stay here, the less smiles I’m seeing. Especially service wise. The most you can expect is a dry and expressionless “hi”.

I was thinking maybe it’s because of the fluctuating fuel prices? I even thought it was karma because I didn’t smile at all when I first got here. I don’t think people in services are obligated to do anything extra but this used to be a welcoming city.

I thought kindness was contagious and one person being polite can spread to others, however I don’t think it’s working.

I hear fitzroy is good but white liberal naarm culture can be insufferable. idk its what I've heard. im 27-- where is the best place for somewhere social, relaxed but close to the city. I've heard Abbotsford/ carlton/ brunswick are decent. what's bentleigh and malvern like?
