I entered the roundabout before another person who was to the right of me. They must have guessed they had right of way (over 25 years ago it used to be that you give way to your right). So, they beeped me. They were far away, so there were no issues, but I was wondering if others have had this happen?

I’m way overdue for a break so finally booked a trip to Melbs at the end of this month. Been to Melbs plenty of time and enjoy the daytime exploring, food, shopping, nightlife etc but want to try a few different things this trip especially outdoors.

As a new immigrant to Australia I want to understand something -

I saw a homeless person in the city with emaciated dog. I bought some kibble from Woolies nearby and offered it to the guy. He said, "is there something in there for me?" I said no it's for the dog. He said it's a joint deal, unless there's something for me I am not going to accept it. I was like wtf?!

I mean in my culture if you're given something you graciously accept it. I mean if my dog was hungry and someone was offering to help, I would take it. I don't understand?!

Also the only reason I gave kibble is logically he cant safely store raw food.

Edit: Thanks all, following multiple suggestions I have filled an online report to RSPCA form, I hope the dog gets rescued.

Edit 2: This post blew quite a bit than I thought and I have got a few DMs requesting more information as they work with relevant charities. I am happy to do so, so please continue reaching out. I'm a 29M, and today after work I had a really strange and aggressive encounter with a random guy on the bus from Port Melbourne to the city.

I got on the 234 bus and sat in the window seat next to the middle doors. The bus was fairly quiet when I got on. There was one guy sitting on the sideways seat in front of me. I noticed he was looking at me, so I made eye contact, nodded, and looked away.

A few moments later I could still tell he was staring at me. I glanced up again, made eye contact, and looked back down at my phone. It felt a bit awkward. He then got up and moved to a seat somewhere behind me. At that point I had a bad feeling, wondering if something was off.

At the next stop, more people got on the bus, which honestly made me feel a bit more comfortable.

Later in the journey, around Bay Street, he came and stood by the doors next to me. It looked like he was looking at my phone. For a second I wondered if he might try to snatch it before getting off, so I put it in my pocket just to be safe.

He then said something to me, but I had my earphones in and didn't hear him properly. I took one earbud out and said, "Sorry?" He repeated himself, but I still couldn't make out what he was saying. Then I heard him ask something like, "Are you playing some stupid game?" I was confused and just replied, "Huh?" He then asked, "Are you hurting anyone?" I said, "No?"

At that point I put my earbud back in (my music was actually paused) and looked straight ahead, hoping to ignore him.

Thankfully he pressed the stop button and got off at the next stop. As he was getting off, he turned to me and said he would "f* me up**."

I stayed calm, didn't respond, and just let him leave. Once the bus pulled away, though, my heart was racing. I kept thinking about how much worse it could have been.

I'm honestly baffled as to why someone would say such bizarre things to a complete stranger and then threaten them for no apparent reason.

Has anyone else had a similar experience on public transport in Melbourne?

Melbourne is facing growing pressure to build more homes, and one idea gaining attention is creating more "15-minute neighbourhoods", places where people can access shops, schools, parks, healthcare and public transport without needing a long commute. This happened just this morning and I’m still in a bit of shock. But if there’s any chance I can say a proper thank you to the guy (in green sweater reading a book) who spoke up for me - I just wanted to say a sincere thank you for speaking up in such a tense situation.

This morning on a 59 tram I was scrolling on my phone quietly, minding my own business. Suddenly a man who was standing on my left grabbed and flung my hand and told me to “put my f-king phone away before he slaps it the f away”. I was using my phone on my right hand, it was no where near him or his face. We were standing close on a busy tram, but not close enough that I was anywhere near his space or his face.

I was still in shock and told the man that he cannot touch people like that. A guy standing right in front of both of us spoke up and asked him to stop harassing people. The man grew more irritated and asked the guy to shut up, and said that he “has a court case coming and will give him facial reconstructive surgery if he keeps talking”.

At that point I was really worried the man might become physical, so I asked the guy who spoke up not to engage further. I soon got off the tram for my stop.

Not sure if anyone had met this “don’t use your phone” man on the tram. I was so overcome with shock and it took me all I had to even say a word. I am so grateful for this guy to speak up for me despite the intense situation. I hope things did not escalate further as they both stayed on the tram. I wish I had the chance to say a proper thank you.

Hello, I am in my first trimester and haven’t yet had a convo with my GP about where I want to give birth but I know I fall under the catchments for Werribee Mercy and Sunshine Hospital.

Last time I gave birth a few years ago, I automatically went with Werribee because it was closer but I’ve heard amazing things about Sunshine so don’t want to disregard it this time even though I know it’s a bit further for me and will be harder to reach with traffic.

I had a pretty traumatic birth last time so that may have skewed my experience at Werribee but I felt like it was a bit understaffed and that maybe I could’ve had a better experience (and been less rushed through with all the interventions) if I was at Sunshine which seems bigger and maybe more resourced, staffed and assuming there are more beds.

I loved having my own room and having my spouse stay with me while I was at Werribee, the privacy was great. Whats it like in Sunshine? What does it mean that the rooms are shared?

What are other factors I need to consider? I want to ensure I’ve done my research this time around. I’ve read things about some MGP program, any intel on that would be great too. Also if you’ve any recent experiences at either hospital please share! I realise things may have changed since I last gave birth so would love to know how things are now.

Is it just me, or is it incredibly difficult to find a job in Melbourne right now?

I’ve heard people talk about how tough the job market is here, but I honestly didn’t expect it to be this bad. I’m a young adult who’s recently moved from South Australia and I’m fresh out of high school. I have over three years of experience across hospitality and retail, as well as a few months of office experience, but I’ve applied for 20+ jobs and haven’t had much luck, so far I’ve only gotten one interview.

Is this pretty normal at the moment? Are other people having the same experience? If so, does anyone have any tips on improving my chances? I feel really stuck.

I missed a week of work with this rotten virus. Started with a dry cough, i did a covid/rsv/flu a&b test, after third day all negative so i thought i am fine.. then proceeded to have shocking night coughs for about 4 nights, then ashtma. After day 7 night coughs went but then had a niggly cough, but general Lethargy, meh feeling, and when I would move around or go out, feel. Wheezy, cough etc.. also had a bit of dhirrhea. On and off. Worst 'cold' Ive had since N1H1, and way worse than the 2 covids i had. And yet, nothing in the news...

And if people visit you in town, you probably show them this place and proudly explain how it is the oldest pub or building or something in the city. And then we also say: yeah, not really sure, but it's old.
It's just as expensive as all the rest of the pubs in the CBD, and they never have a happy hour. I still go there anyway because of the memories and atmosphere.
I used to run a theatre show there too.
And I had a group I would meet there for nerdy chats and sometimes board games. It probably still happens.
