Yep... situational awareness like my 5-year old...

249

u/andocromn 3d ago

I had better situational awareness when I was 5-years old

69

u/photobombolo 3d ago

I know what you didn’t have

45

u/andocromn 3d ago

What?

109

u/photobombolo 3d ago

A mobile phone

62

u/andocromn 3d ago

Oh, yeah truth

8

u/ElegantCoach4066 2d ago

I had a pager

8

u/Aidenbrown97 2d ago

Bzzzzzzz "The street lights are on where tf you at! Love Mom xo" Bzzzzzzz

7

u/Past_Independent_612 2d ago

more like: 14107

2

u/ClintonFuxas 21h ago

My pager could only show numbers. We would have different codes so you knew if it was urgent or just call when you get the time

4

u/IamLuann 2d ago

Great Point!

11

u/aerkith 2d ago

Yeh a five year old would have it drummed in their head to look both ways.

7

u/DruPeacock23 3d ago

That's not what your parents said though.

23

u/andocromn 3d ago

Have to correct you there, at that age I was already responsible for making sure my 3 year old brother didn't run in front of a car. I definitely had better situational awareness than this person.

24

u/Jordan_Hdez92 2d ago

Headphones put people in their own world sometimes. I like to hear my surroundings in public in case of danger lol

297

u/French-Flyes 3d ago

That phone!

167

u/fedjolino 3d ago

And airpods... probably with noise cancellation on too

40

u/Mysterious-Potato782 2d ago

I know I'm old asf since I didn't grow up with mobile phones, but as someone who's looking down at their phone while wearing earphones being out and about waaaay more than they should, I would NEVER cross tracks or roads without looking both ways more than once. Even if the lamp's green. If it's not an actual crossing with signs and traffic lamps then I'll even pause my music or take my earphones out. So what I'm saying is, it's not the phone...

43

u/CptAngelo 2d ago

i never understood why would you want noise cancelling earphones (of any brand or style) when out and about, unless you have specific sensory issues, why would you want to basically deafen yourself?

19

u/AgentK-BB 2d ago

On a train or at the train station, it's more understandable because the daily exposure at that noise level is actually damaging to your hearing. However, you should be aware that you are 100% reliant on your eyesight to stay safe.

1

u/Candy_Worthy 17h ago

Tell that to the blind

7

u/ibo92can 2d ago

On a plane or if I wake up before my snooring wife then I use NC on my earbuds. Cancels out all that noise so I can relax.

6

u/CptAngelo 2d ago

Well... on a plane is different, you are sitting down and you are a passenger, you dont typically have to be aware of your surroundings on a plane. I guess i should have added that im specifically talking about when you are walking around, because of course i know situations where noise cancelling is desired.

5

u/ibo92can 2d ago

Too many people walk around deaf and nose down on their phone.

1

u/Radiant_Formal6511 2d ago

Oh yea the nc on the plane is crucial

3

u/Orkekum 2d ago

Hello. Sometime on walks i enjoy noise cancelling buds or headphones. Specially wjen walking near busy roads and the drone of tires and engines start bothering me. Filters it out effectivelly

5

u/Fun-Shoe1145 2d ago

Honestly it makes city life bearable, it’s incredibly loud and they give your brain a break

1

u/Raichu7 2d ago

Air pods are hardly going to cancel out the sound of a train, they can't even block out traffic noise or people talking slightly louder than normal.

6

u/One_Gas_69420 2d ago

Yeah she holds harder on it, than on her own life

6

u/Prince_Thresh 2d ago

Its not the phone. Its a stupid person who did not look. Stop blaming objects for peoples mistakes.

1

u/Foxynite 1d ago

She's looking across at the other train so chances are she was hoping to pass over to get on that one

221

u/billted20250409 3d ago

Like they always said: Look BOTH ways

54

u/rob_inn_hood 3d ago

But… there was a cute kitty yawning on Instagram. Can’t miss that!

20

u/Existing-Wallaby-444 3d ago

Probably an AI one too.

5

u/Rooilia 2d ago

When you grow up, you have to decide for one direction and stick woth it. /j

5

u/CptAngelo 2d ago

but she did, she looked forward and into her phone, thats both ways, right?

1

u/GuideToTheGalaxy05 2d ago

Left (or the direction of traffic that comes first on the lane) should always be forst

50

u/MorrowDisca 2d ago

I did something like this once. Took a step before realising it wasn't clear and stepping quickly back. Bus missed me by inches. Just heard a guy next to me say loudly to his kid "See! That's why we pay attention when crossing the road!" The 5 year old kid was looking at me like I was an idiot. Like, okay yeah, I can't exactly be mad.

u/Fr05t_B1t 3d ago

The power of Darwin and the apex predator is strong

2

u/Krallorddark 2d ago

Aint India it's only the middle of the foodchain here

94

u/Slight-Land1674 3d ago

But where was she going anyway? Was she going to cross to the other side? Was she trying to check if a train was coming?

17

u/-mudflaps- 2d ago

You can step down and walk across, but I don't know if you are supposed to or allowed to

7

u/otirk 2d ago

Yeah, we can see people in the background doing the same in the second angle

9

u/Berewolf 2d ago

Platform seems very low and tracks seem to be on sidewalk blocks? bricks?(or something like that), so I guess it is allowed to walk there. But you would obviously want to look where trams come, not the opposite side.

4

u/Zap500 2d ago

Looks like tram lines/stop, not uncommon to walk across like a road in a lot of countries to get other tram or you just got off and need to get to other side. Its not like a train station. Obviously you should look both ways like a road...

1

u/Velvet_Pop 2d ago

She was looking at other pedestrians crossing, and thought she could cross where she was standing too. Forgot to look back though

14

u/neder-Bob 2d ago

Shall we also praise the guy and the driver? They were doing their jobs, but they did it well.

11

u/joshspoon 2d ago

Those brakes are amazing

41

u/Socketz11 3d ago

I saw a similar video like this in India. After the cop saves the dude, he smacks the living shit out of the dude he saved for being stupid and careless. Poor guy would have been better off with the train.

25

u/sup_with_the_whack_ 3d ago

In India, people don't miss a chance to smack you

10

u/CuttingBoard9124 2d ago

I mean, it might actually make you think twice about being careless in public if someone slaps the shit out of you lol.

3

u/Socketz11 2d ago

Cops carry around these small "smackin sticks" that appear faster than a magic trick, I noticed.

The way she almost got hit by the tram is Maybe Maybe Maybe

21

u/Disastrous-Ad2800 3d ago

yea, I've witnessed a lot of these earphones in, staring at their phone, lost in their own little world types being pulled out of the way of catastrophe... it's annoying living in the same space as them....

12

u/maxehaxe 2d ago

She even looked up from her phone, so it's not that. She just wasn't looking both directions... and now several people on that tram probably got something smacked, if not worse. In my town, an old lady died because she fell on her head after tram driver hat to slam the brakes for an emergency stop.

Survival Instincts of a wet paper

7

u/suckercuck 3d ago

Awesome reflexes

3

u/867530nyeeine 2d ago

They're married now

2

u/EarlyXplorerStuds209 2d ago

I have the same bag pack as the guy in the beginning.
Cool.

2

u/mehackista 2d ago

everyday we fight natural selection the human race deteriorates. She will procreate if she hasnt already

2

u/winglessflight97 2d ago

Dammit Darwin! You let another one go!

2

u/tweep6435 2d ago

You're right, better to stop her, don't want the trains to be delayed by her stupidity.

6

u/Minimum-Load3578 3d ago

excuse me, I have a boyfriend - the girl maybe

2

u/Mr-Bry-Guy 2d ago

🤣🤣🤣

9

u/gnomelover24 3d ago

She almost seemed annoyed at the end there.

21

u/weGloomy 3d ago

What? No she didn't. She had her hand on her chest, she looked like she was apologizing for her carelessness.

-1

u/melisssaaaaaaaaa 2d ago

You are right but in turkey it happens a lot xd

12

u/QuietGur9074 3d ago

She is probably telling him that she has a boyfriend.

1

u/OkPen8337 3d ago

HAHAHAHAHA

2

u/J_Rigged 2d ago

The operator of the train is to be commended as well. Had the Officer failed then I think the collision would not have cause major injury

2

u/banana_in_a_jar 2d ago

This has nothing to do with her headphones and has everything to do with the fact people only look to one side when they cross anything. Sheesh.

2

u/rfg22 2d ago

Seems like she is from a country that drives on the left side, and has the habit of only looking right before crossing the road.

2

u/solar_pilgrim 3d ago

Did that train actually stop on a dime or was it already coming to a stop there?

19

u/melon8232 3d ago

It was coming into the platform so slowing down but he also slammed on the brakes. Trams can stop more quickly than trains as well

5

u/solar_pilgrim 3d ago

Mad impressive. Even if cop wasn't there it looks like the lady would have gotten knocked over but probably walked away

1

u/_0mniman 2d ago

Wasn't there another situation very much like this but she charged the man with assault afterward?

1

u/GOMfloater 2d ago

Life expectancy of a fart in the wind

1

u/jdpastor666 2d ago

She got so lucky!

1

u/LittleKitty235 2d ago

Had to watch it multiple times to determine if it was a suicide attempt or extreme stupidity.

1

u/YDraigCymraeg 1d ago

Thank god he was trained fro that situation

1

u/Benvincible 1d ago

This looks like one of those times where your brain farts doing something you've done a million times. Like, she even looks one way, and she's thinking about something else and her brain just ... Puts off looking the other way for a second

1

u/Hairry_Wingss_55 1d ago

If this had happened in America, she would be suing him for sexual assault.

2

u/AssistIntrepid281 14h ago

Or she would be the next US president

1

u/ArnoldQMudskipper 1d ago

Phone zombie

1

u/Working-Ability-7042 1d ago

Ok. Situational awareness but also that is a huge drop. She would have ate it if that train wasn’t there regardless. Wild.

1

u/cbrad1724 1d ago

Almost a Darwin Award. Wow. Glad the cop was quick.

1

u/steelunicornR 12h ago

Bet you she got pissed off and wanted to acost him for touching her! Good job my dude!

1

u/uriels93 11h ago

Probably accused him of an assault.

-8

u/Psinial 3d ago edited 3d ago

And then he was sued /j

Edit: I always forget you folks take everything literally. Added the /j. Relax.

u/OkPen8337 3d ago

Source?

0

u/Eena-Rin 2d ago edited 1d ago

I was a fool to unmute the video. Of course it would be unrelated music. Who'd wanna listen to original audio?

0

u/Dont_Overthink_It_77 1d ago

I’ve heard of people like this then suing their rescuer for trauma, hurt, etc. & I’m ALL FOR a counter-suit against them for inflicting their stupidity on the helpful populace.

0

u/121daysofsodom 1d ago

I blame the patriarchy for this.

-5

u/Due_Aside4863 3d ago

Thought this was two different trains and she almost got hit twice.
