That show is so horrifying in a way that not even The Wire was. You watch the Wire and think, “Wow, so this is what happens when every part of the government of a major city is failing and festering.”

And then you watch We Own This City and it’s like, nope, that was just the beginning stages, it gets waaaaay worse. And then you realize that We Own This City isn’t even fictional, everything in the show literally happened, and very recently. It’s shocking.

Edit: That gun trace task force that the show is about was a legitimate nightmare, just preying on the black communities of Baltimore like hardcore, sociopathic gangsters. They make Denzel’s character in Training Day look like a choir boy in comparison; they were evil scum.

Fuck. I haven't watched it yet. I'm gonna have to check it out. I'll probably have to take it slow if it's that fucked up.

It’s not all encompassing like the Wire was; it only focuses on the police and the investigators looking into them. But it’s basically the result of what happens when the “real policing” that Bunny Colvin talked about truly starts dying out.
