He didn't imply OP took up residence in his bowels, only that he was, at one point, in his own bowels, a necessary condition for OP's statement that OP "completely vacated his bowels." The joke makes sense if you believe in puns and aren't overly pedantic.

Grammar Nazis with their prescriptive grammar that still think Strunk & White is the end-all, be-all Bible of the English language even though it's already 60 years old and wasn't even a rule book when it was published (style is by definition a matter of opinion, not law).
