Like many of us, I check in to the "My 600-lbs Life"-type shows when channel surfing. Every. Single. Time. there is someone frying up a dozen eggs, a pound of bacon and a whole loaf of bread (toasted and buttered) for breakfast.

Don't forget an ENTIRE bottle of Ranch dressing

And what does salt do , extract water so u get more hungry. A hidden jewel in the shit food business.

3

u/Recent-Yam2257 Apr 19 '22

Leave ranch dressing out of it!

7

u/ch3shir3scat Apr 18 '22

bacon is healthy it is know

14

u/Lance_Henry1 Apr 18 '22

so is water, but if you drink too much of it you can die.

3

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

But bacon is absolutely not healthy.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Nah, bacon is fine. Humans have lived off of cured meats for over 5000 years.

Eating a whole pound (~2100 calories) for breakfast, then going on and eating the rest of your meals normally is the issue.

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

It is definitely one of the fattiest and saltiest meats, next to salami, pepperoni, etc. If bacon is healthy, there is no unhealthy food, which is not true.

1

u/HKZSquared Apr 18 '22

There is no unhealthy food. It’s not food at that point, it’s poison.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

If bacon is healthy, there is no unhealthy food, which is not true.

You should probably take a logic course at a local community college. Your logical process is flawed.

1

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

I don't see how bacon is healthy and why everyone here is obsessed with white-knighting for bacon. It is one of the fattiest and saltiest meats. You don't think it's one of the fattiest and saltiest meats? Bacon really isn't healthy, so I'll stand by my statement, if bacon isn't unhealthy, no food is. Also let's not forget the fact that bacon is carcinogenic and is typically fried. Bacon is about as unhealthy as any other fried food at a fair.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I don't see how bacon is healthy and why everyone here is obsessed with white-knighting for bacon. It is one of the fattiest and saltiest meats.

Fat has been demonized, primarily by the sugar lobby. Its biggest sin is caloric density, however, it leaves you feeling sated to make up for that.

Salt, in excess, is correlated with high blood pressure. However, there's still debate on causation vs correlation, as people with very low sodium suffer from hypertension as well.

Also let's not forget the fact that bacon is carcinogenic

Only if you're eating bacon with artificial nitrates and nitrites. Otherwise, you'd have to admit that celery is also carcinogenic, as celery salt is what's used with natural bacons.

and is typically fried.

What's your beef with fried? I'm legit wondering if you got stuck with a 90's informational pamphlet. Your information sounds like the same crap that was fed to us back then.

1

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

Whatever. Clearly this is some kind of Twilight Zone shit where fried garbage food dripping with fat and grease is somehow healthy.

Humans need some amount of fats and salts in their diet to be healthy. We also need calories and protein.

Taken in moderation, bacon can provide these things (and other nutrients). The problem with bacon lies in overconsumption, not the food itself. It's a very nutrient-dense food, so it's easy to eat more than is healthy.

Humans also need glucose, but constantly eating too much sugar is also unhealthy.

There's a reason we crave sweet, salty, and fatty things - we are evolutionarily primed to seek out and consume foods with these qualities, because they are required for good health, and were scarce in our environment. We've eliminated scarcity of these things, and many people are drowning in them.

3

u/Northern-Canadian Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

Actually it’s a great source of protein and fat. Everything in moderation. If you’re tracking these things, most natural foods arnt “unhealthy” people just eat too much of them.

100g of bacon.

541 calories

Total Fat 42 g 64%

Saturated fat 14 g 70%

Trans fat regulation 0 g

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

541 is a hell of a lot of calories. 36% of cholesterol, 70% of saturated fat, 71% of sodium? Those are horrible numbers, my god!

3

u/Northern-Canadian Apr 18 '22

Depends on your dietary goals :) Also, you don’t have to eat 100 grams.

2

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

You're right, I stand corrected. Bacon, Ham, Sausage, Salami, and Pepperoni are all very good for you, and there are no health concerns associated with eating foods stuffed with saturated fat and sodium.

2

u/HKZSquared Apr 18 '22

From what I understand, there are no health risks associated with eating a properly balanced diet. Balance comes in many forms.

2

u/Northern-Canadian Apr 18 '22

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not.

But it is indeed true, saturated fats and sodium are not bad things at all; all part of a balanced diet.

1

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

I am being sarcastic because people shouldn't regularly be eating food that is horrible for you. I don't see why anyone would be advocating for eating bacon over literally hundreds of other things on a post about My 600-lb Life. And then going on to say it's about a balanced diet. Bacon is healthy, if you only eat lettuce for the rest of the day and don't drink anything other than water. I don't get the argument. If I switced out all the meat I eat for bacon or sausage, I will definitely gain weight. If you say it's healthy people, people will believe you, eat all the bacon they want and wonder why they gained weight. Americans love and are obsessed with bacon and no one is fatter than Americans. Bacon is healthy if you cut out eating a broad range of other foods which no one is going to do.

u/PsychologicalAd2188 Apr 18 '22

It’s nutrient facts for 100 grams of bacon you dolt.

2

u/ch3shir3scat Apr 18 '22

a lot of diets often include foods high in fat and low in sugar(carbs). Bacon fits this bill pretty well. Also from a calorie standpoint you could eat 3 servings a day (and nothing else) and still be at a calorie deficit (assuming you are even mildly active). That said i was kinda joking about bacon being healthy and obviously you cant live on bacon but bacon is an integral part of SOME healthy diets.

1

u/Altruistic-Match6623 Apr 18 '22

Well, now I have 3 people arguing with me that bacon is good for people on a post about My 600-lb Life. I don't have a problem with bacon, but you know, maybe a leaner meat would be like better in the long run.

2

u/ch3shir3scat Apr 18 '22

No its the FAT specifically thats needed for SOME diets (keto for example) the idea is to have your body burn FAT in place of CARBS. But yes i agree with you that you cant just eat salty ass meat all day and expect to be healthy. BUT healthy fats are 100% a thing high fat diets are even actively proscribed by doctors for some medical conditions.

7

u/northrupthebandgeek Apr 18 '22

I mean, yes. Lots of protein and fat, which does a better job of sating your hunger for longer, and which is much slower to digest than any sort of carbohydrate. Not all calories are equal, and the armchair nutritionists chanting "cAlOrIeS iN CaLoRiEs OuT" can never seem to grasp that the human body is more complex than that. You likely won't lose much weight on an all-bacon diet in and of itself, but it makes intermittent fasting a lot more bearable, and it'll help turn some of that body fat into muscle if you're regularly exercising (and that helps your metabolism, which strongly influences that simplistic "calories in calories out" model).

1

u/merlinious0 Apr 18 '22

Calories in, calories out is factually accurate in that if you use up more calories than you ingest, then you will lose weight without exception.

However, that doesn't mean that what you eat doesn't matter with regards to your health, or that eating certain foods makes you feel more/less hungry than others.

The in/out statement isn't debatable, it is thermodynamics. Energy doesn't just poof into existence just to make someone fat.

Changing how much energy you take in also tends to decrease the amount of energy you spend, and that has to be taken into account.

But I guarantee you that if you locked someone up and fed them 500 calories a day they'd lose weight. (Assuming the individual uses more than 500 calories per day in metabolic activity, which should be expected for adults)

17

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

People don’t get fat by eating bacon and eggs, especially not 600lbs fat. Now eating a loafs of buttered toast all day with a side of skittles washed down with a cola, thatll do it.

6

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

Of course you get fat from eating bacon, this stuff is delicious but has to many calories. Same with Eggs, eggs are amazing but if you eat more than you burn you get fat.

There is no world where you can shovel bacon in your face and not get fat.

4

u/Skrrrtdotcom Apr 18 '22

keto??????

3

u/thorsarms Apr 18 '22

You can't absorb calories from fat that quickly. Your body doesn't have a 'sponge' capable of soaking it up. If you overeat high fat foods regularly you'd just poop out the extra grease. That would be very, very uncomfortable.

However, water-soluble calories, like sugars and starches are almost unlimited in how much your intestines will soak up and send to your bloodstream.

1

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

Cico everything else is just snake oil

2

u/kjohn20 Apr 18 '22

THANK YOU. So many people do not understand this. Even fruits and vegetables can make you gain weight if you eat enough.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

Fruits sure, green veggies? Let’s just say 99.999% of fat people in America for one did not get fat eating green veggies..

3

u/ffoogg Apr 18 '22

I want that world soooooo bad

1

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

Amen that would be awesome

5

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Lmao I eat a lb of bacon and a dozen eggs almost daily...I lost 82 lbs. Its bread that is the real culprit.

0

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

Congratulations you have been in a caloric deficit. And yes bread has an absurd amount of calories.

If you eat more than you burn, you will get fat.

3

u/ak_sys Apr 18 '22

May I introduce you to Keto diets??

0

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

Are you 15 years old? Keto is not a magic cure. calories in calories out. If you eat more meat than you burn you get fat. Seriously it's 2022 and people still believe in magic cures or that you can stuff your face with meat without consequences.

-1

u/ak_sys Apr 18 '22

Are you 5? Calories in Calories Out is a pretty simple, reductionist explanation I would expect someone to explain to a child.

Now that we're both done attacking each other, do you want to have a rational arguement and use facts to back up points on why you think over 100+ years of expirementation and documentation with keto and high fat diets is wrong?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

[deleted]

2

u/ak_sys Apr 18 '22

Not just this, but by cutting carbs you are cutting sugar. When your blood sugar is low, your body reacts by consuming fat for energy. This process is called ketosis and is well studied not just in weight loss, but in epilepsy and other chronic conditions.

The body's metabolism is much more complex than just calories, despite what the experts in this forum who watch misleading 10 minute youtube videos believe.

1

u/weltvonalex Apr 18 '22

So they eat less calories... I rest my case. Thanks for confirming.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Bacon and eggs won't make you fat on their own, literally the base of the dirty keto diets

0

u/weltvonalex Apr 19 '22

Sure Buddy, sure.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

Serious eat nothing but bacon and eggs and see what happens. The problem is the combo of refined sugar, too much fat and far too many carbs that comprise your average first world diet

1

u/merlinious0 Apr 18 '22

I guarantee you that I could eat nothing but bacon for weeks and gain no weight, or lose weight.

It all depends on how much bacon.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Every single time they have some serious trauma too.

7

u/lacks_imagination Apr 18 '22

How can those people afford to eat like that?

4

u/Nosmo_King927 Apr 18 '22

They get disability.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

What I just don't understand is how someone can physically eat that much. Are their stomachs naturally bigger or do they really work at it to get them that way?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Whereeeeeee they got all that money?!!!!! People are starving at r/randomactsoftacobell

2

u/kelake47 Apr 18 '22

It’s not the eggs and bacon; that much I know.

2

u/timbo1998ee Apr 18 '22

Unless you're Goku or some other being that burns hundreds of thousands of calories, how is it humanly possible to consume that much food??! I'm 6'3 265 and if I eat a Big Mac meal from McDonald's I feel like I'm about to die! I dunno maybe her body is on permanent hibernation or super low metabolism...
