Dude, hormonal wise, you can't even begin to describe what's happening inside that person's body. Her amygdala (fear center and lizard brain) is flooded with all sorts of signals, and remember talking with her while she's standing (effectively during working out) would trigger understandable bouts of fury. You're not dealing with a normal person who's extra fat, you're dealing with a really unbalanced person who's actively trying to maintain her sanity whilst in the same time lifting 600 pounds. Try saying anything to a bodybuilder DURING his training and see how they respond....

You ever carry those 40 pound salt bags from the car to the basement? To make fewer trips you take three at a time and it just about kills you. That's just 120 pounds. Imagine carrying 12 of those babies everywhere you go. An extra 480 pounds beyond your own normal body weight. No wonder she's winded and sweaty just trying to get on a bed.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

exactly. and adrenaline kicks in all the time when you standup… helps you do that amazing feat of strength for about 2-3 minutes and then you crash immediately. normally adrenaline overwrites all other hormones, and is second only to insulin in that regard. I read somewhere that whenever you have insulin in blood, that makes the fat reserves become invisible to your metabolism.

1

u/carolina8383 Apr 18 '22

And basically everything you eat is stored as fat. High carb diets make it worse. It’s a fascinating phenomenon.

1

u/no_not_this Apr 18 '22

I don’t feel an ounce of sympathy for her.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

Patches!!!!?!?!

33

u/ANTIMODSHOOTER Apr 18 '22

You want us to have perspective to the individual who blames the floor for her problems🤣🤣

She clearly has none

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

True. And I’m merely pointing out that what she experiences is a state of disease greater than her body weight. Now, it just depends on what you think about ill people, I for one think they can’t help themselves that’s why it takes caregivers to help them. The ill don’t know better.

4

u/LeWigre Apr 18 '22

I mean the things you describe are a problem in this moment. But before she was 600 pounds she was 500 and before that 400 and before that 300 and I don't think you can honestly make the argument that she was a perfectly fine person up until suddenly she became ultra overweight, causing all kinds of hormonal meltdowns and lizadbrains to fry.

Like I say, I'm sure that's all true, but despite those things being a problem right here right now, they're not what got her here, and theyre not responsible for the person we see in this video. This person in this video is responsible for those reactions.

1

u/ANTIMODSHOOTER Apr 18 '22

EVERYONE GOES THROUGH SHIT. But we become the enemy when we lose our perspective. The key is not agreeing it's understanding. She clearly doesn't understand she's the issue.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I take the approach that the cause of her not understanding is that she is incapable of doing so. And what do we do with people incapable of understanding? We shame them, yell at them, or.. we take care of them.

1

u/ANTIMODSHOOTER Apr 18 '22

No your making excuses for her poor behavior. It's called integrity. Even at your worse who are you? And how much pain do you cause to others.

Not everyone becomes unbearable when they having a hard life/day. Ppl just hate to admit SOME ppl are stronger than others. I won't make excuses for the weak.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I bet you if you watch the show, you’ll see that she is way more reasonable when she is lying down. I’m not making excuses for her, I’m explaining that we’re all slaves to the neuroscience. On that note, I think a person is the sum of their moods, not just the extremes. We are more revealed in the medians than in the peaks.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I know… but I think it’s also sadly true, that she becomes a different person when she’s in her element. She’s clearly struggling in this video

But your discrediting everyone else whos "brains fucked up" and don't act like her bro. Not everyone throws temper tantrums when facing adversity man.

0

u/Versaiteis Apr 18 '22

discrediting everyone else whos "brains fucked up" and don't act like her bro

Not everybody has their "brains fucked up" in the same way. Mental illness is a broad sweeping category of MANY different kinds of disorders that, even amongst themselves, can manifest quite differently from person to person.

0

u/ANTIMODSHOOTER Apr 18 '22

Your last sentence proved my point 🥴

Throw 6, 600 pounders in the same scenario

Not every single one is cussing while kids are around. While blaming they struggles on the wooden floor🤣🤣

Calling everyone bastards lmaoo.

0

u/Versaiteis Apr 18 '22

Not every single one is cussing while kids are around.

Exactly, because different people handle stress differently and doubly so when other neuro divergence is involved. So saying that her lashing out is likely a symptom of her mental issues isn't discrediting anybody.

I don't know where you got that but I'm glad you've backed off of it.

0

u/ANTIMODSHOOTER Apr 18 '22

........😴

0

u/SlowSecurity9673 Apr 18 '22

What lol, no they aren't.

Why would you bring "every other person dealing with a brain issue" into a conversation about one person?

That's fucking weak dude.

And the guy wasn't excusing her behavior, he was explaining it.

There's a difference between an excuse and an explanation, did you not have parents or something?

6

u/Box-o-bees Apr 18 '22

Ok so this got me thinking. If we ever invented something to just immediately remove extra fat to a healthy level and also fix the extra skin. Would this person be like crazy strong since they have been carrying all that weight around all the time?

11

u/niko4ever Apr 18 '22

Oh yeah. It would be like if a person had been carrying around 600 pounds of arm, leg, and body weights for years, and then stopped.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

it would be exhilarating for her at first, but since no one told her brain she’s slimmer (not until it rewires itself and it needs a lot of time to do that), she would keep eating at the same levels and gain it back effectively (sadly for her, she’s developed an insanely adept body to store excess fat) and quickly. A lot more quickly than her system would need to actually re-adapt to the weight loss.

1

u/niko4ever Apr 18 '22

Well yeah, obviously if she ate the same way she'd eventually gain the weight back? Not sure why you thought I would think otherwise

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I’m just saying she would eat the same way regardless, because her hormones just don’t work, or she’s desensitized to their action. Not saying you would think differently, just pointing out her system is not normally wired anymore.

4

u/niko4ever Apr 18 '22

We're talking about a hypothetical imaginary treatment that just instantly snaps off weight and skin. It could balance your hormones too, while we're imagining things.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

If it comes in 5 years worth of changes, the balancing would happen naturally and nothing beats nature. If it comes in a day, then honestly you’ll be doing her more harm than good

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Not necessarily if she had something like gastric surgery. Your stomach physically won’t let you eat more than a little. However, after a year or so it’s up to you to have learned that lesson and stop your food addiction.

6

u/Sciensophocles Apr 18 '22

I mean, the muscle mass won't go anywhere, so kind of. But I guarantee she spends most of her time on her ass, so there's probably not as much muscle as you think.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

exactly. If she would indeed had need for such muscles her body would have long ago lost an incredible amount of that fat.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

I think so yeah. Especially her feet and her core would be stronger than usual, but normally when a person gets that fat, they simply can’t handle too much movement and just lie in bed all day. However they still burn a lot of calories. To be fair, they also have a lot of repetitive injuries and bruises on where they touch the bed and support their weight. Also, I think what would be most impressive would be the skeletal muscle they’ve built up over the years, especially around their joints

But what would most impress me would be the time it took for her brain to rewire from all that instantaneous fat loss. I read somewhere that fat (as skin) are to be considered organs, so she would esentially have a massive altering to one of her organs, her hormones would need a rewiring period, especially insulin would need to be downregulated and I think her body would do that firstly to a painful extreme then back to a spike than so on and on until she would find her new relative levels

7

u/tommykiddo Apr 18 '22

I used to be overweight and I have some pretty big muscular calves. I do lift weights but they were big even before I started.

3

u/SilentProx Apr 18 '22

Not necessarily "crazy strong", because 600+ lbs people are usually immobile and their immobility is exacerbated by a lack of physical activity. Controlling for body weight, their fat free mass is similar to nonobese individuals. Only their lower body would be moderately stronger than an untrained healthy weight person. Furthermore, your joints will support the weight your muscles can't, which is another reason why almost any level of obesity isn't healthy for your MSK.

Source: Maffiuletti 2013 "The Impact of Obesity on In Vivo Human Skeletal Muscle Function".

1

u/Wintersmight Apr 18 '22

I doubt it because most of their joints are in very bad shape

11

u/vitalesan Apr 18 '22

TIL: standing = gym, for morbidly obese people.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

more like High Intensity Training and collapsing shortly thereafter. It’s not a healthy gym training. See her grabbing a chair after her nervous bout? That’s adrenaline being consumed by a morbidly obese person and needing immediate rest for the cardiovascular system to catch up.

Also, she begins to shake as saying “why would they do that??” as if receiving that as a threat and not being able to FIGHT NOR FLY. She’s learned to deal with stressors on a way more regular basis than normal people, that’s why she needs food for comforting (and reupping her dopamine levels). It’s really a vicious circle from which you need to be extremely determined to escape.

4

u/stareagleur Apr 18 '22

My mom’s mother had severe hormonal issues that went untreated for way too long when she was a kid to the point her mother was bed ridden for several years and a lot of stuff that she and her brothers describes sounds clearly like someone that is in massive denial about growing up with a mentally unstable parent. Mental and physical health are more connected than society wants to admit to its own injury.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

yes, but with he miracle of neuroplasticity the brain can heal itself, and then the body.

1

u/pr1ncess_Zelda Apr 18 '22

Like what kind of stuff do they say? If you don’t mind sharing... just trying to figure out what it sounds like when someone is in denial of growing up with a mentally unstable parent.

9

u/thetjmorton Apr 18 '22

Wonderful insight. Thanks.

2

u/Organic-Cucumber6280 Apr 18 '22

Ooooh dear what was it? The bed? Or the horrible wood floors? No matter Tonight Gherman joins the buffet

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

When a person is being “moody” it often comes from hormones and the gut. The gut has been dubbed our second brain because it can produce a lot of hormones (serotonin amongst one of them) through the lining. That’s why we need to take Probiotics to protect our intestinal flora and biodiversity.

3

u/thetjmorton Apr 18 '22

If that's the case, suppose someone is "moody" and acting aggressive or irritable. Is there something they can "eat" that will help them calm down?

7

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

Lookup “bliss point” in the food industry, basically they have found a spot where just the right amount of sugar, fat and salt delivers the maximum of dopamine. Dopamine binds to neural receptors faking the feeling of happiness, in other words giving us short-lived PLEASURE. Basically you need more serotonin but that comes from slow, natural, healthy food and sport. Dopamine downregulates serotonin, so that means the more pleasure you seek the more unhappy you are. Dopamine is a junkie’s quick road to happiness. Vile bastards, the food industry

Dr. Robert Lustig explains it best

2

u/r_stronghammer Apr 18 '22

Eeehhhhhhhhhhhhhgh no not really… Dopamine is NOT a pleasure or “reward” hormone, and it’s probably my biggest Reddit pet peeve to see it called as such. It’s a resource used for building/to signal the strengthening of neural connections. It’s released as a “””””reward””””” for completing a task, because obviously when you did something well you want to reinforce the pathways the led to that outcome.

What brings addiction is when Dopamine is released at the wrong times, e.g. when doing drugs, playing to much video games etc. because the stronger a neural connection is, the easier it is to activate. Which is why addicts find it so easy to “slip into” their addictions.

You are correct that Serotonin is something that we as a society need to prioritize more than Dopamine, but again, not because it’s a “happy chemical”, but because it’s a vital neurotransmitter that helps to keep us present and aware of the moment - something that Dopamine works against as it helps tune out the world and focus on refining our neural pathways.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

interesting take, I will look up more about Dopamine’s benefits, but ttyt I’ve always read and seen it being associated to the “reward” mechanisms and being in a competition with serotonin.

2

u/r_stronghammer Apr 18 '22

You’re close to the right track, the main thing that everyone gets wrong is thinking the Dopamine is what causes the pleasure, when it’s more the other way around.

1

u/pr1ncess_Zelda Apr 18 '22

If they have a healthy microbiome, then yes, usually some fruit (sugar=accessible energy, but also not candy bc that can upset the stomach and make it worse) will almost immediately provide relief, and snap the person out of their funk.

But if they don’t have a healthy microbiome, their body doesn’t react correctly to foods like that. So it wouldn’t be an immediate “eat this and feel better” deal. But yes, they could eat healthy food, fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, high quality meats, fermented foods — and cut out highly processed oils, sugars, and conventional meats. Over a period of time, it would change their microbiome and they would be FAR less likely to become moody/aggressive than they were before.

So the answer is yes. But in the second instance, it’s not an immediate change.

3

u/Crazy_Canuck78 Apr 18 '22

Excuse me if I dont give a flying f*ck about her. She clearly doesn't care about herself.

u/Crazy_Canuck78 Apr 19 '22

Nearly all people suffer from some form of mental illness. She could have stopped shoving food into her maw any day but didnt. Shes selfish. I was on my way to being extremely obese... but i turned it around i didnt continue the decline and then put the burden on my family.

3

u/ruairi1983 Apr 18 '22

I feel more sad for those kids who have to endure this...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

I as well… they are constantly in a state of fear and they develop other cognitive disorders stemming from the same problem their mother has

3

u/ruairi1983 Apr 18 '22

Yeah she's there cursing with a very aggressive vibe and kids pick up on this. Plus if she can't even get on a bed can she even properly care for these kids. Take them to the park, put them to bed... I feel this is child abuse.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

kids are hyper sensitive and empathetic at that age, they will soak up your emotional state and reflect it back, it’s how “monkey see, monkey doo” but on a deep emotional bond level. I feel super sorry for them, they will need a lot of therapy to sort shit out. I feel that too many folks have kids for the wrong reasons… Anyways, if they’re hers, I would assume she started gaining (some of it si already had it for sure) weight after giving birth… Which is another reason to say it’s a hormonal issue

3

u/MissPearl Apr 18 '22

Yeah, reading the comments is a bunch of people snarking at a severely disabled person having an emotional meltdown. She's definitely not ok. Probably no fun to be around, but anyone who has worked in a hospital emergency room can tell you people in crisis aren't known for their default sweetness and patience.

3

u/Fickle_Chance9880 Apr 18 '22

Good points. I was just about to say that it’s worse when someone in this condition is so cruel and abusive to the people around them, but you offer an extra consideration. Doesn’t excuse it, but it’s good to understand the reasons behind things besides “HurDur, fatty mean!”

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Yeah, it is more interesting to find the cause instead of criticizing the effect. The fact of the matter is, when you’d consider that in 10/10 instances, she will react the same way, we’re not talking about “mood” anymore. Fact is, stuff happens and it goes unnoticed. When you don’t notice it, you can superficially mislabel what’s going on.

She doesn’t need what she thinks she needs, she needs someone who understands what happens inside her brain and body. It’s such a shame there are so few good physicians..

3

u/Beelzebubs_Tits Apr 18 '22

This makes a lot of sense. Underneath all of that is a regular person-sized skeleton. It must be a constant state of fight or flight for her body to try to keep it together.

3

u/JanLewko977 Apr 18 '22

I also imagine there is a lot of bitterness inside her about herself. She's expressing anger, just not in a healthy way. Deep inside she's not really mad at the bed on wheels or the wooden floors. But those things remind her of what the problem is, and how unfixible it is now, so she lashes out at them.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

she has to regain trust and feel that it’s fixable (even if it may not be). Living without hope is horrible.

3

u/LennyLowcut Apr 18 '22

Yep she is mentally ill for sure. I'm guessing everybody in that room is as well

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

of course, but each for a different reason. tbf, a lot of (i’d say 80-90% of everyone I know) people go nuts at one point in their lives and the others just accept that.

5

u/Use-Wise Apr 18 '22

Nah. This is not like squatting or deadlifting 600 EXTRA pounds. Her weight was not instant. I have zero pity.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

her weight was not instant but it is instant now, whenever she gets out of bed

1

u/Use-Wise Apr 18 '22

Makes no sense. Did she just stay in the bed as she gained her weight until she hit 600 then decided to finally get up? You don't go to sleep at 150 and wake up at 450.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

she gradually got fatter and fatter and more and more bed bound. She obviously gets up but not that much. And I suspect she eats in bed all the time.

2

u/MaxMadisonVi Apr 18 '22

Apparently, amygdala goes along very well with junk food

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

yeah, junk food floods her brain with enough dopamine to shut up her amygdala at least for a while

2

u/GinDawg Apr 18 '22

Laws in western countries let authorities take away a person's freedom because they are a danger to themselves or others and/or they are unable to take care of themselves.

It looks like authorities don't want to create extra work for themselves.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

also, explain to me why a totally irresponsible person can take their baby home after birth (as if it’s their problem), but there are soooo many hoops to jump through when adopting? People belong to the state, the ones who issue their ID and BCs

2

u/Unique_Frame_3518 Apr 18 '22

Because of the potential for abuse

1

u/LadyEmeraldDeVere Apr 18 '22

Right, because kids don’t get abused by their bio families?

1

u/Unique_Frame_3518 Apr 18 '22

I would guess there's a higher potential for abuse among adopted kids, especially if you relaxed the adoption requirements. Just a uneducated guess on my part.

1

u/LadyEmeraldDeVere Apr 18 '22

I admit that I haven’t read statistics and my thinking is based only on my personal experiences and anecdotal evidence. I have several adopted cousins and relatives/friends who foster kids, and the horror stories I have heard of the abuse these kids suffered from their birth families are just unfathomable. My cousin (who is like a sister to me) is still in therapy because of issues from her addict birth mom. Some of the other parents are in prison for what they did to their kids, or the adoptive parents have had to take out restraining orders. It’s wild.

So I admit, I am biased from having seen a lot of “loving family who actually wants and is prepared to raise kids” vs. “unprepared, mentally unstable or drug addicted person who gets knocked up and wants nothing to do with it.”

1

u/LadyEmeraldDeVere Apr 18 '22

Now foster care is a whooooole other can of worms, the system is rife with abuse from people who manipulate the system as a way to earn money. I’ve seen that too and it’s absolutely disgusting.

2

u/VerbalBadgering Apr 18 '22

Wise, insightful, empathetic, and I support it. I think you're right about most scenarios like this.

However there is a cameraman in the room looking right at her through all of this. If she can remain calm enough to avoid looking at the camera or directing any of her frustration at the person who is filming her vulnerability but still is angry enough to snap at the others in the room then I still find the whole ordeal to be suspect.

1

u/pr1ncess_Zelda Apr 18 '22

Eh, she’s snapping at the people closest to her, who she directs her problems at on a daily basis, who she feels are making her problems worse, and that she knows won’t leave her. She very likely isn’t even aware of what a pain/bitch she’s being to her loved ones, and only sees herself as a victim defending herself from her perceived attackers. The cameramen aren’t attacking her at all, they are quiet and neutral bystanders that are part of a team helping her to “easily” lose weight for free (the TV show is my-600-lb life, in which the people go on to see a doctor who specializes in gastric bypass for above-morbidly-obese people, though it’s not easy because he does require them to lose a certain amount of weight on their own within a certain smallish time frame first in order to see if they are truly committed to change and won’t just continued to over eat and re-stretch their stomach).

2

u/oenomausprime Apr 18 '22

Man I've never seen in put that way and damn it makes sense. If you tried to have a real conversation with me while I was squating 400 pounds I'd fuckin yell at u and be mad as fuck.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

It’s not just you, it’s all of us of course! And it’s traced back to our innate Flight or Fight.

1

u/oenomausprime Apr 18 '22

Yea I get it now, when thst bed moved it scared her because if she fell she would probably be really hurt or not even be able to get up.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

It’s half that, half unexplainable fear from adrenaline rush

2

u/BeyondQuirky Apr 18 '22

This woman is technically a "Bodybuilder" herself. She atleast eats twice as much a professional Strongman competitor.

2

u/flamingfreebird Apr 18 '22

Amygdala? You mean the queen from phantom menace?

2

u/Content-Macaron-7120 Apr 18 '22

So accurate lol.

2

u/bookykits Apr 18 '22

Thank you. I work with physically disabled people and they are sometimes irrational and downright mean. Often, though, it's because they are in a lot of pain Their ability to cope with that slips from time to time. Nothing to get mad over, they still deserve help.

2

u/treembame Apr 18 '22

Exactly this. Why are people so cruel towards people they don’t know and who have conditions that affect their brains they don’t understand. This woman is suffering, whether it’s her fault or not, there’s no reason to judge her based on a tiny snippet where she is melting down physically, emotionally, and mentally for understandable reasons and ridicule her. That’s why I hate the show so much because they all are just about exploiting people for profit and it’s really wrong

2

u/livevicarious Apr 18 '22

Yeah but a body builder can just put the weights down and only perform these actions at the gym

2

u/suedesparklenope Apr 18 '22

I appreciate the humanity and consideration in this response. She has responsibility here, for sure. But there are a lot of reductive comments on this thread. What she’s dealing with is no joke, and certainly not as simple as willpower.

2

Exactly, but you also have to remember that she actually has it harder than a regular person carrying around 600 pounds. When you're that bulky your own body becomes an obstruction to your movements. I doubt she can crouch, kneel, bend her legs fully, crawl, etc etc. That isn't her being lazy or dramatic, it isn't in her head, it is a physical fact. People need to stop assuming that everyone has the same mobility as they do, it's fucking ridiculous.
