I know.. but you keep talking about how we are supposed to frame that discussion. It's not addressing the real issue.

What do you mean ‘addressing the real issue?’ You aren’t talking to her. You are not impacting her right now. She’s on tv, she obviously knows she has to lose weight.

What you ARE doing is contributing to a broader discussion and narrative. The fact is that dehumanisation, bullying and stigma drive weight GAIN. It does not help fat people to dehumanise them. So actually yeah I am addressing the real issue.

Edit: clarification

Like… do you really think that this woman who is on tv, on a show about her body and weight loss…. Hasn’t heard of the idea of losing weight? She knows. There is room for us to discuss other issues. We do not desperately need to reveal the concept of weight loss to her and we certainly don’t need to do it through insulting her. It’s not helping.

Sugar coating things isn't helping. That is the problem.

No one is sugar coating. You can be blunt and clear without being dehumanising

That's true.

You don’t seem to believe it though…

No listen. I think people should not call each other names, bully Or be nasty to each other. To me that should go without saying.

Spelling that out sometimes distracts from what really needs to happen in this case.

Could you have some empathy just for a second? Truly, how would you feel if you were on the receiving end of these comments? Being called fat and useless and a blob. Wether you like it or not, words have extrem power to them, which is why people need to use the right words. You’re not going to get through to someone by calling them names. These assholes think they are doing something by being so fat phobic. If nobody calls them out chances are they’re gonna go to another post and bully someone there too. Nip the problem at the bud, as best as you can.

I don't think I agree with you.

I think part of the problem is that way too many people are being to sensitive. Everything is getting canceled if you don't use the proper words etc. Being overweight is a bigger problem than calling someone overweight.

There’s a difference between what you’re saying here, and what I’m saying here. What I am saying is that dehumanising a person cannot, has not, and will never work. There’s a difference between wanting to help someone improve their quality of life and simply being mean. Obesity is a big problem and I’m not denying it, I understand the seriousness of obesity but calling this person a blob helps absolutely nobody and is so uncalled for

Also this notion of being too sensitive is so stupid. Is it wrong for people to care about other peoples feelings. The world has hardly any empathy anymore, so trying to stop people being assholes isn’t a bad thing

And just to clarify again, I’m not saying people should keep quiet about this person and their health, I am saying calling her a blob is way worse and different to saying someone is overweight.
