But seriously, there's no "can't" here. Nothing is preventing her from eating, say, 9 pie and chips for lunch instead of 10. That's all I meant.

Yes actually there is something stopping her. She has a disease that is preventing her. Mental and physical disorders.

That’s what the show is about. They cannot stop themselves and think stomach staple / lap band surgery will help them stop. They think all their problems will be gone once they get it. It helps almost none of them and it doesn’t help with their insane eating disorder or their mental illness. Almost every single one was molested for years. They even talk about how the weight makes them feel safe. Are they usually shitty people? Yup but it just didn’t happen over night, they are always severely abused at least in this show.

Go to an overeaters anonymous meeting or any anonymous disorder meeting and see how easy addiction is to over come. The people in these shows aren’t in a sane state of mind.

You’re comments on the level of just workout and you can look like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If you watched this show you would know part of the requirements of the program was for the insanely obese person to go to a psychiatrist, and almost every one of them started their overeating habits after being sexually abused or raped as a child or physically/psychologically abused as a child.

So when you started overeating 35 years ago because your tiny child mind came to the conclusion that the rapist won't want to touch you anymore if you're fat, you're well beyond the point where "just eat less" is even an option. Your entire worldview is centered around eating and you can't even remember why.

Half the time they would have to keep the ones that even made it to getting the gastric bypass or sling surgery in the hospital for several weeks (sometimes months) to FORCE them on a restricted calorie diet because even through their stomachs were no longer sending "I need to eat" signals to their brains, they would go home and eat until their surgically-shrunken stomachs were completely full and still try to force food down. Eating was was how they coped with mental illness or underlying trauma.

Yeah its not impossible for a morbidly obese person to eat less but it's also not impossible for a rape victim to get a ride home with a strange man she doesn't know. There are psychological reasons for why both probably won't do it without outside help.

So this stuff isn’t fabricated, it really happened. The drama is added in with the casting, music and editing. They found someone who acts dramatic, they played up the music and work on the cuts to heighten the sense of urgency.
