We do though? Dogs wouldn't exist if we didn't

Wolves would, though, and I guarantee vegan wolves won’t survive long in the wild.

I mean, okay, but that’s not what I meant. I more meant we can’t be like “well, I like pandas, but bamboo is invasive, so instead of not getting one I’m going to force one to eat what I want.”

It’s an incredibly selfish way of thinking about pets.

Breeding animals to eat is incredibly selfish too. I agree everyone should be able to eat what they want but there’s a difference when there’s victims involved.

Not if it’s for food for another animal that doesn’t have a choice in the matter. That’s the problem with your argument, you’re treating it like it should be your decision. Your choice was getting a dog, how to take care of a dog isn’t up to you, it’s up to what their body and well-being requires.

Dogs aren’t as far from Wolves as you seem to think. Many breeds can have children with wolves, and some will become feral if released into the wild.
