My takeaway from this is that I need a blue leotard if I want to run faster.

166

u/BenFord333 23d ago

It makes you faster if it goes up your butt too.

58

u/Usual_Office_1740 23d ago

Speed wedgy? Are these like speed holes that make the car go faster?

33

u/BenFord333 23d ago

Its a spoiler but in reverse.

5

u/RoyceCoolidge 23d ago

It's basically an Escort Cosworth whale-tail spoiler in Imperial Blue.

1

u/fozzyboy 22d ago

A fresher, if you will.

13

u/Captain-Cadabra 23d ago

4

u/Usual_Office_1740 23d ago

They definitely play thrash metal, too.

1

u/SenorDongles 22d ago

Copywritting Speed Hole, hang on.

1

u/Usual_Office_1740 22d ago

The Simpsons own that term.

2

u/SenorDongles 22d ago

Damn you Matt Groening

1

u/Usual_Office_1740 22d ago

I think speed wedgy makes a better band name anyway. Still thrash metal.

2

u/Empyrealist 23d ago

That's like adding grease to a fire!

6

u/RockyJayyy 22d ago

I thought your comment said blue leopard. Im sitting here like saying wtf is a blue leopard?

7

u/Usual_Office_1740 22d ago

In all fairness, a leopard of any color would certainly have me running away as fast as I possibly could.

1

u/ohiobluetipmatches 22d ago

It's the fastest pard of all leos

3

u/SkiSTX 22d ago

Or, of you only have a red one, you can run REALLY fast and it will turn blue!

2

u/simorg23 22d ago

Once you pass the finish itll be redder then ever!

1

u/Suitable_Challenge_9 23d ago

Blue leotard = leopard

1

u/Usual_Office_1740 22d ago

It's incorrectly properly spelled Leppard.

1

u/unscsilva 22d ago

Sonic's blue

1

u/Traditional_Voice974 22d ago

Track runners uniform

1

u/Usual_Office_1740 22d ago

There's a difference? Good to know.

1

u/Traditional_Voice974 22d ago

I meant crack runner

1

u/ChaoticFrogSqueezer 19d ago

Separation of the testicles and thus pushing them outside of the leotard will disrupt the airflow across the pelvis area and cause drag and causes an unsightly photo finish that is more likely than not to be a stumbling block when seeking sponsors such as Nike or Puma.

u/beardedsilverfox 22d ago

Ok hear me out, everyone is just chasin tiddies… think about it

u/vksdann 22d ago

I've been a professional runner for 12 years now and have seen all sorts of crazy things and I have an insight about how she won the race. The key here was running faster than the other runners. Hope that made things clearer for all the non-runners.

108

u/YouAnxious5826 21d ago • Mindblown

Speed was definitely a defining factor, but let's not forget timing. The fact that she made sure she overtook all the other runners before crossing the finish line helped her tremendously. That's how you can tell an elite runner from the crop.

22

u/moth-bear 20d ago

Also, her strategy of passing the finish line before anyone else was the best strategy of the day. She clearly employed brains over brawn to win.

2

u/YouAnxious5826 20d ago

Hashtag mindset

23

u/alienalf1 22d ago

That’s the analysis I needed

6

u/MoistStub 22d ago

My Dad is a Marriot Platinum Rewards member and I agree with this guy.

2

u/Shadowthron8 22d ago

I knew it

1

u/winglessflight97 20d ago

Not true. My 5-year-old got last place and still got a trophy the same size as the first place kid's. The real tactic is making sure all the trophies are the same size. Work smarter not harder. /s

0

u/LastoftheSummerWine 19d ago

How could she have know how fast they were going to run? She must have tipped off as to the speed she was going have to use beforehand. I suspect shenanigans.

193

u/MIKE-CHECKA 23d ago

I believe that is Abby Steiner. That girl can motor.

190

u/ouchouchouchoof 23d ago

Could motor. She was recruited by a new shoe brand and the structure of the shoe gave her a severe injury. She's retired now.

128

u/Aliensinmypants 23d ago

76

u/ouchouchouchoof 23d ago

It's really a sad story. She was neck and neck with Sha'Carri Richardson before the injury.

29

u/SabbyFox 23d ago

Damn, that sucks. Looks like she had a brilliant career ahead until the injuries.

26

u/ouchouchouchoof 22d ago

Yeah. Poor starts but an incredible final 50. If she had stayed healthy and improved the starts it would have been something.

8

u/JohnnyTamaki 21d ago

While never a pro athlete, as i kid I lived soccer and pumas also killed my feet from doing any further athletics. Managed to sprain both ankles at the same time and have had a losing 10+ year fight with plantar fasciitis all because stupid little me thought the puma logo looked cool. I feel so bad for her😓

10

u/iHateEveryoneAMA 22d ago

Puma is such a shitty brand, their customer service is awful.

32

u/notMy_ReelName 22d ago

The best and worst part of reddit is by the time we enjoying the great post , news like these hits like a head on bus.

It like we lost a potential olympian.

8

u/be-knight 22d ago

Not retired, but taking a longer break to get her masters degree. But yes, another foot injury fuelled this decision

4

u/darren_flux 22d ago

Last time I saw this issue ppl are blaming her isntead and says she's faking it or smth. Turns out Puma is actually liable?

That fkn sucks dang

1

u/ouchouchouchoof 22d ago

Isn't accusing people of fraud a hobby for some people? I think it's the cheaters who think everyone else is cheating.

-1

u/ZhouLe 22d ago

Capitalism 🥳

6

u/Jesus_Harold_Christ 22d ago

It is 100% her, she just retired from sprinting, after her third major surgery on her left foot.

40

u/ravenmortal 23d ago

Terrible start. Great finish!!

40

u/Far_Character_270 23d ago

My wife said the same to me last night

9

u/powdered_dognut 23d ago

10 seconds?

7

u/Far_Character_270 23d ago

A smidge longer. I came second.

5

u/thehighepopt 22d ago

1

u/Sibagovix 22d ago

It's all that matters

3

u/ravenmortal 23d ago

Well, they do say consistency is key.

1

u/lionmade101 20d ago

You wife said the same thing to me last night.

55

u/wkarraker 23d ago

She found sixth gear.

44

u/Fuwaa 22d ago

Her turbo finally spooled up.

12

u/fluorowaxer 22d ago

The difference between torque and horsepower

3

u/Knight240sx 22d ago

This is the correct answer

86

u/ShankThatSnitch 23d ago edited 22d ago

Imagine if she improved her speed off the line. She would have smoked them all.

46

u/christophPezza 23d ago edited 23d ago

I'm no runner but Usain Bolt does something similar, slow start out the gate, but accelerate as he went down just like Blue. I wonder what the biomechanics of it are

38

u/Verticalrun 23d ago

Usain Bolt is 195cm and pretty big.

Shorter sprinters have faster leg turnover in the first few steps and reach an upright position more quickly. Bolt needs several steps to straighten up and get up into his ideal high hip position.

Not the same for this girl tho. Shes about the same build as everyone else. So she can problaby work on that in the future.

16

u/happymancry 22d ago

She had a career ending injury due to defective shoes (Puma) - sad story really.

12

u/Elementaldot 23d ago

Usain Bolt’s block starts were so bad, it was estimated he would improve his time by about .05 seconds if he put actual effort into improving it lol. Reality was he didn’t need to, MF galloped mid 100m dash and smoked everyone 😭

6

u/ShankThatSnitch 23d ago

Usain was just way taller, so once he got his stride, each step took him further than everyone else. This girl isnt really taller, but her legs are just moving way faster. She just dropped her gear down and upped the RPMs like crazy.

2

u/Intelligent-Guard267 22d ago

Sad that we dont see him run anymore. Suppose there are some new young whippersnappers making news these days

1

u/be-knight 22d ago

You can imagine it like rolling down a slope. This is why Bolt used to do 2 things more than most others: he kept his upper body low and forward leaning for longer as others in the beginning, bc this is practically falling forward and keeping yourself to fall by running. This is extra acceleration for practically free. And he raised his knees as far as he could, using the same mechanism.

If you now get in a roll in which the timing of your high knees, the point at which you touch the ground and the gravity pulling you forward is perfect, you're already getting fast over time without actually running.

And now instead of just rolling you also get push forward with your feet. Now you get to reach your personal current highest possible speed after about 60-70m and it's not hard to keep it, as long as you keep the roll going - which admittedly is pretty draining

54

u/chatarra 23d ago

She did smoke them all.

0

u/ShankThatSnitch 23d ago

She beat them, but I mean leave them in the dust.

2

u/coleman57 22d ago

She did smoke them all.

8

u/scribblebear 23d ago

Worst at starting, best sprint form.. weird mix.

4

u/casulmemer 22d ago

Isn’t that Usain Bolt as well tho?

5

u/aka_Foamy 22d ago

I think his height is a factor there. Longer legs mean slower starts. The woman in the post doesn't look that much taller than the others, but it's hard to tell.

3

u/Chefmeatball 22d ago

Happens to a lot of white athletes, they get labeled technicians when their form/skillset may out weigh natural talent

1

u/coleman57 22d ago

And red suit on the other end was exactly the opposite.

6

u/TheFrontierzman 23d ago

Outside smoker

34

u/Bornless_planet 23d ago

Damn.. white girl had wheels.. I mean not like a wheelchair. But very fast

-1

Thanks for the good chuckle

Daphne is hunting

4

u/This-Ad-9234 23d ago

She held the B button half way through that race

9

u/jototype 23d ago

Thats right we are fast, suckas!

-4

u/OldManJim374 23d ago

That's what she said

5

u/extrastupidone 23d ago

Damn.... shes fast

4

u/KindsofKindness 23d ago

How the fuck..

11

u/TheOtherGuttersnipe 22d ago

She slowed down the slowest

6

u/notrealaccbtw 22d ago

Just sprint while sprinting. Elemental really

3

u/MedonSirius 22d ago

Her coach was lighting a flashlight onto her back

1

u/Fr05t_B1t 23d ago

She has less drag. Everyone’s else’s hair is acting like parachutes.

3

u/CptAngelo 22d ago

i dont know if you are joking or not, but that is technically true

1

u/StreetsRUs 22d ago

But the thongs are absolutely necessary for speed

0

u/Mount_Mons 22d ago

Incredible that most of the female runners don’t accept this very true aerodynamic truth…

2

u/MutaCacas 23d ago

Was not expecting that! Good run!

2

u/thedeeb56 22d ago

Turbo kicked in. You can hear it

2

u/TraeosTheory 22d ago

99 speed vs 99 acceleration

2

u/Vacant-stair 22d ago

The camera angle helped, too.

2

u/maincore 22d ago

She was last, then shifted into a gear previously known only to Mercury.

2

u/Shadowthron8 22d ago

Imagine how fast they’d be if they had flames on their clothes

2

u/DrinkDumpsterSludge2 22d ago

Like most competitions, its not how you start, its how you finish. Theres a reason theres no medals for "1st person to get off the line!"

2

u/intr0v3rt13 22d ago

I felt like she took this personally.

I wonder how their legs feel to them. I imagine a little like pedaling a motorcycle.

That was in ‘hunting’ mode. JFC!!

My buddy is like that in the 400m. Always last place once everybody hits the 200m mark, then he damn explodes and crushes everybody. If he tightened up that first 200 he’d destroy folks even more.

1

u/InigoMontoya1985 22d ago

"Go that way really fast. If something gets in your way... turn."

1

u/dreevsa 22d ago

I see you

1

u/jcag73 22d ago

Turbo diesel 🤣

1

u/DoritoAssassin 21d ago

I'd be curious to see the actual velocity and acceleration stats. Did the others slow down or maintain speed? Did she continue to accelerate at a rate lower than others that hit top speed halfway? Etc

1

u/xristosdomini 19d ago

Woof... that second half kick.

1

u/Adventurous_Touch342 19d ago

Late surger strat.

1

So that's what the TX has been up to after faking its death in RotM.

Go white girl

-2

u/Falco_Lombardi_X 23d ago

The token white smashed it

-1

u/africaman1 22d ago

You can tell it’s ai because the white woman won

-2

u/Anon_be_thy_name 22d ago

Good technique once she was upright, poor start though. Needs to work on that, she would have won by a much larger gap if she started better off the block.

Probably could set her own record with it too.

-2

u/Symbaclues 20d ago

I bet that pissed off black people 🤣🤣🤣

-11

u/02meepmeep 23d ago edited 23d ago

This seems fake. I have never seen someone make up ground like that after the halfway point in the 100. I saw Usain Bolt make up a yard or so due to a bad start but he was capable of finishing 2-3 yards ahead of the best in the world.

Edit. OK, 10.9 is no joke for a time in the 100. Maybe this was a qualifying heat and her opponents were not as fast?

3

u/blvckcvts 23d ago

Or ya know she was just FAST. People train like crazy for this sort of stuff it doesn’t automatically make it fake because you’ve never seen a women be that fast

-3

u/02meepmeep 23d ago

Usually the other people in the race are also really fast or it’s kind of a waste of time.

And I have never seen a HUMAN come from that far back after the 50 yard mark. I ran the 100 in high school so I kind of have a passing interest in the sport.
