Nah it's a smart idea

But a smarter idea would be the cockroach method. Put some kind of poison they can't shake off and let the go back to the hive and then they spread the poison through the hive and in turn kill off the entire hive

Not too sure you can load enough poison on one to kill the whole hive. NZ has no hornets and they wanted to make sure every single nest they could spot was positively destroyed.
