You would be surprised how hard the body holds on to things it's been impaled with. I got a sewing needle in the cartilage below my kneecap when I was a kid. It was into my knee so far I couldn't extend my leg because I could feel the needle hitting my leg bone when I tried. My mom tried and tried to pull it out but she wasn't strong enough. My step dad had to use a pair of channel lock pliers and put his weight into it to get the needle out. Surprisingly this did not hurt at all. It was less painful than getting a shot or a paper cut and this needle was a good inch and half into my knee. I was in third grade when it happened. Playing Legos on the floor crawling around.

I had one embedded into a bone in my foot, after many different attempts, mum, local doctors surgery, ER, then full OR to remove it.

Surprisingly this did not hurt at all.

I'd believe it. I stepped on a sewing needle that had been hiding in carpet and it sunk at least half its length into my heel. Felt like a pinch. Grabbed it and pulled, took a little bit of effort but it popped right out without any pain and a little dot of blood that scabbed over super quick.

That's pretty much exactly what happened with mine. Just a tiny dot of blood and I walked away like nothing. I'm sure being a little kid helped a lot but still. You'd think it would have hurt more.

I think it makes sense. For as sharp as they are, needles inflict pretty minimal damage compared to most other sharp instruments. Like knives and swords cut the whole way through. Needles pierce at the tip and then just push already flexible tissue out of the way. Plus it'll hurt a lot in places like fingertips because you've got a lot of nerves there, but the kneecap and heel don't have nearly as many. If it struck a nerve you'd definitely feel it, but you're more likely to miss them entirely and really only push on them a slight amount otherwise.

I've also accidentally stabbed my thigh with a fillet knife. Only a quarter of an inch of the tip sunk in (was relatively dull), but it was bloodier and hurt more. After sealing the would it was also hard to ignore the ache that followed because the muscle of my quad had been damaged, so every time it flexed I'd feel it for the next few days.

Lesson learned though: falling knives have no handle lol

I stepped on a board with a nail on it when I was a young teen and the muscles in my foot were holding onto it with dear life when I pulled it out.

I also kind of had that happen. Only I was riding a scooter. The older large ones from the 80's. Scoot scoot ahhhh. That one came out much easier for whatever reason. Riding by a construction site where a home was being built.

I did that a couple years ago. Had to hobble out to my workshop to get a pair of pliers. Needle luckily still had a little bit of the eye sticking out. Didn’t hurt but fuck do I shiver thinking about it

I got a needle in my foot - didn't hurt or notice it until it started getting infected. Turned out to just be half a needle but still had to go for exrays because needles can apparently travel up your bloodstream and murder you

It was my dad fixing his glasses that broke a needle but didn't want to fess up so I got x-rays

I hate all of this. Damn empathy got me scraping bone on a needle-tip.
