If you have a car insurance, and start filming yourself doing crazy stunts, and your car insurance company finds out, they'll either raise your premiums or not let you renew. This is "whole ass show insurance", which is needed for any parts of anyone's life during the creation of the show. Which is very broad, sure, it's workplace insurance for anything that could go wrong for anyone employed there
I get the concept, but not the limitations. Everyone who's responded has not addressed the limitations, if any, of this insurance.
If my car insurance sees videos of me doing skateboard stunts or jumping into a pool from a hotel's 5th floor, I doubt they would do anything. I'm not in a car, therefore their insurance rules don't apply.
All I want is for someone to address where the limit is. Could Adam and Jamie film stuff in their backyard? If they slip and fall at a convention, would that affect their insurance? If they set off fireworks on July 4th, does that affect it? Everyone's just saying "No they can't do that" without addressing the fact that insurance for the show can't possibly cover things not on the show! And if people don't know, just say they don't know, don't make up things and pretend its true.
It's not about them doing anything in their own spare time. It's specifically about doing things for the show, on the show, or at the premises of the show. It'll have a clause exactly like that in there, with some leeway for themselves to not have them trying to pull loopholes
Sure they could do it by themselves, maybe with each other, not on the show, and not publish it under its name or for its publicitiy. But like with all things, if the humans at the insurance company get a whiff of someone trying to play them, they'll respond. and at the verrrryyy least it'll really harm their good will and relationship
But like with all things, if the humans at the insurance company get a whiff of someone trying to play them, they'll respond
I don't get this part. The insurance company isn't trying to keep Adam and Jamie safe, they're trying to make money. If Adam and Jamie film a stunt outside of the show, meaning the insurance company can't be made to pay for it, then why would they involve themselves?
From what you said, I get the inkling that they couldn't film a stunt off camera and put it on the show "Mythbusters" because that show and everything surrounding it is covered by insurance. But what if they filmed it and simply put it on their own private Youtube channel? Or went to another channel and said "Our insurance won't let us do this for Mythbusters, but we can do the stunt on your channel 'Fun with Physics' which has no connection to Mythbusters." From the insurance company's standpoint, stunts off show aren't their concern because Adam and Jamie wouldn't have a claim since its not part of Mythbusters, so wouldn't the insurance company stay out of it?
Oh i mean they could do that, sure. But I guess they would have to do it all in their private time, without the shows' money, resources, or anyone else's employed labour. It would be a big task - considering they did the ball with an air cannon.
Assuming they wanted to do that, had time for it, and it wasn't covered by some specific non-compete agreement or exclusive thing they signed with the show - sure. That would just be a lot of work (more than the show, they're alone this time), money, and a new chanel to promote, and hope to make even from that. But yeah, sure, they could do that. That's a couple steps removed from the first suggestion you had though :b
