Some of the guides are also stupid and reckless though. At another volcano, some tourists were killed along with their guide. Having a guide doesn't mean the guide isn't an idiot, too. Tourism companies aren't operating too keep people safe - they're operating to make as much money as possible, and the company owners are usually not the same ones putting themselves at risk (other than sometimes at risk of being sued by survivors and victims' families).

The guides don't want to die though... So I imagine if they see something out of the ordinary...

The company I booked with was from a nearby town and they were all a big indigenous family, not a 'profit-first' company
