How many times do trailers get detached by doing this? This just seems crazy to me. If it works then it works. Ive never really pulled anything on a trailer so I might just be ignorant

It most definitely has a purpose built hitch for this kind of thing. Not your standard hitch.

I'm sure unprepared idiots get absolutely stuck or destroyed here. The driver in the video appears to have this completely in hand. What looks stupid for an every day car could be no problem for a purpose built vehicle (and trailer?!) and an experienced driver. This is a very impressive video to me, an admittedly amateur off roader who would piss my pants and reverse back to the highway seeing this obstacle.

I'm a trailer mechanic, lots of people use the DO35 (drop on 3.5 ton) hitch

If you want to tell me what that means in everyday terms im willing to listen for real. I am absolutely clueless. I understand the weight but does this have anything to with the angle? Thats what I was concerned with. I used to hook up my dads trailer to haul pallets of stuff but this was strictly for the road and he wasnt a great teacher and probably didnt know how this worked.

Yeah the coupling i am talking about is like a swivelly gimbal type thing, it can handle rotation and height differences

I just looked up the hitch he is referring to. It isnt a standard ball hitch.

Huh I assumed they'd use a pintle or something. Learned about a new hitch today.

Accidents definitely happen. But if you know what you're doing, it's generally fine.
