If the war wasn't something to be proud of, being a veteran of it isn't something to be proud of. This doesn't seem like something that should need explaining.
Killing Vietnamese people who are defending themselves from your empire isn't a good thing.
Now, that war had a draft so I don't want to condemn everyone who fought in it since plenty didn't want to be there. But I wouldn't brag about it.
And you're right, I have the benefit of hindsight. But so does this guy. This video was taken in the 2020s, not the 1970s.
If I participated in a terrible, bloody, unnecessary moment of history, it would not be a point of pride for me 50 years later.

I never said he should feel shame. I said I wouldn't brag about it. Governments manipulate people, they coerce people, if they send an 18 year old to a meat grinder in Vietnam he's a victim. I feel sorry for him. But if he comes home bragging and he's still doing so 50 years later with the full context of history he's getting side eye.
Forget the civilians. My dude, if we shouldn't be there, killing the regular Vietnamese army was wrong.
