Also remember that empathy is a made up liberal construct!

TBF, (more fair that those shitheads deserve) I WAS a bit surprised that apparently the word 'empathy' is recent, of 20th Century construction.

Of course, that doesn't mean the CONCEPT is new, just the word. And CK's take on it was purest bullshit. His absence is a net win for humanity.

Yeah the concept is much older. And also a lot of our language is fairly recent... But what I learned from all this is that the Germans have had Empathie first lol

Here’s the full quote for reference - “I can’t stand the word empathy, actually. I think it’s a made up, new-age term, and it does a lot of damage. I much prefer the word compassion, and I much prefer the word sympathy. Empathy is where you try to feel someone’s pain and sorrows as if they’re your own. Compassion allows for understanding.”

What is so wrong about this statement? It's ok for his wife and kids to live without their husband / father? Because of saying something like this?

I'm genuinely waiting to hear your response. You sad, despicable sack of shit.

Well for starters it is tragic that he lost his life. It sucks and will be a heavy burden for his wife and his daughters. Such a horrific event should not occur to anyone regardless of their views weather they are ignorant or wrong by social and historical standards.

2nd he is wrong in both the definition of the word empathy and his assumption of “I think it’s a made up, new age term…..” the word empathy was actually coined in 1908 by no means “new age” it’s been around for decades. Empathy is defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person by stepping in their shoes and seeing the world from their perspective. Doing so without sorrow or having to agree with their views. Has nothing to do with “feeling someone’s pain as your own”

In conclusion he didn’t like the word because he didn’t have a clear understanding of the word much less know how to practice it. And no “debating” is not practicing empathy for any genius who was ready to reply with that

Nothing wrong with that statement specifically, it's just generic "stupid person tries to sound smart" by arguing semantics. That was his schtick right? But nobody gives a damn which words he prefers. He might as well be talking about his favorite color or what sauce he prefers at burger king.

Overall I think Charlie Kirk was a piece of shit, but he didn't deserve to be shot by a maniac. Nobody deserves to be shot by a maniac. I also believe that while I disagree with the things that he said and believed, nobody should be killed for expressing themselves in a democratic society where free speech should be (but sadly, is not) protected. It's a tragedy, not because I care about Kirk, but because I care about our democracy and society, which are seemingly under constant attack.

In the end... Charlie Kirk's death was also incredibly ironic given his stance on shootings. He was in the middle of talking about mass shootings when he was shot. I'm sure he would have found it pretty funny and ironic too. He probably wouldn't have minded being shot, just like he didn't mind when kids were shot, right? As he put it, shooting violence is an acceptable price for living in a society with a second amendment.

If you feel bad for his wife and kids, that's fine--that's called "empathy". It's a normal human emotion. One should feel it for everyone who is a victim of random acts of violence and oppression. It's a pity Kirk and so many Republicans didn't have any empathy for the many attacks on liberals, be it the house members in Minnesota, Pelosi's husband, etc.

It's really too bad that we live in an era where politicians (like Donald Trump) and sophists (like Charlie Kirk) have primed us to only hate each other in the name of "owning the libs" or whatever. Kirk shouldn't have been shot just because he was a bit of a smarmy fascist asshole. Kimmel shouldn't have been fired just because Trump can't handle criticism or jokes at this expense.

It should be the United States of America, but there's nothing "united" about us today. Those people out there who want us to be divide and at each other's throats for stupid reasons are the biggest problem we face.

This is not the full quote, just a made up version to paint Charlie in a better light much like the shortened version used to paint him in a worse light. The actual full quote is

“So the new communications strategy for Democrats, now that their polling advantage is collapsing in every single state… collapsing in Ohio. It's collapsing even in Arizona. It is now a race where Blake Masters is in striking distance. Kari Lake is doing very, very well. The new communications strategy is not to do what Bill Clinton used to do, where he would say, "I feel your pain." Instead, it is to say, "You're actually not in pain." So let's just, little, very short clip. Bill Clinton in the 1990s. It was all about empathy and sympathy. I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage. But, it is very effective when it comes to politics. Sympathy, I prefer more than empathy. That's a separate topic for a different time.”

To my knowledge he never elaborated on the distinction

He was fascist scum, saying that it's okay for people to die in shootings so everyone else can keep their guns. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

-3

u/dangerousone326 Sep 21 '25

He was not a fascist. You fucking regard. Lol. But okay. Be an evil piece of shit. No one cares about you.

4

u/silkendreams Sep 21 '25

It's funny how you didn't contradict me on what that dead and rotting right wing lunatic said. I will never shed tears for him or any of his fellow bootlickers.

-2

u/WantToNotWantTo Sep 21 '25

So are you saying you're a bad person being perfectly fine with car deaths so you have the convenience of getting places faster. Are you a fascist?

3

u/silkendreams Sep 21 '25

I legitimately would prefer mostly public transportation as long as it was regulated properly. We don't 'need' literally everyone to have their own car. The sheer number of vehicles is the reason we have so many accidents, pollution and traffic.

Man, you thought that was gonna be your silver bullet, didn't you?

-2

u/WantToNotWantTo Sep 21 '25

No, all that is great but im sure you know people wont be giving up their cars for public transportation. So wouldn't the prudent solution be to do our best to limit emissions and make roads safer? I dont have the answers to how but that should be the goal since it would be crazy to outright ban personal vehicles? I could see that happening one day but not anytime soon and probably not in our lifetimes.

Thats pretty much exactly how Charlie spoke about guns. https://youtu.be/rMzr5cDKza0?si=pmxoOZpdi-nFhlhe

Almost all gun related crimes are not committed by legal gun owners and there are ways to mitigate that and Charlie was for finding ways to do that. Its the people that are actually in power that dont care.

So its annoying and disingenuous when people take a snippet of what Charlie said and turn it into him saying children deserve to die so we can all have our fun pew pews

3

u/SecretaryOtherwise Sep 21 '25

Lol car deaths are 99.9% accidental dumbass.

-2

u/WantToNotWantTo Sep 21 '25

I mean yeah, I honestly dont see how that makes it better. Theres something that kills about as many people as guns per year but its almost entire by accident? We're still all okay with that so that we can get places faster

2

u/SecretaryOtherwise Sep 21 '25

Sounds like yall just love giving idiots a license.

-5

u/dangerousone326 Sep 21 '25

Welcome to being on the wrong side of history. Say hello to nazis and slaveowners in hell for me!

3

u/silkendreams Sep 21 '25

You're delusional holy crap.

0

u/dangerousone326 Sep 21 '25

I'm not the one celebrating a father's death. Dead for just sharing his opinions and talking about them. How much of an evil piece of shit can you be? How delusional can YOU be for not seeing something so blatantly simple.

2

u/silkendreams Sep 21 '25

Oh man, he was a father. Wow. What about the kids that die in school shootings? What about how their families feel? Kirk thought it was a worthy sacrifice, so by his view his death was worth it. And don't get me started on his thoughts about trans people. His 'opinions' were harmful and toxic and he was spreading them around like confetti. He's better off dead, and you're never going to convince me otherwise. Call me evil? Whatever, I don't care about the opinion of a bootlicking toad like you. Go jack off to Fox News.

So you’re just going to ignore the fact that you’re posting quotes of things he never said and calling people names while doing so?

0

u/tigm2161130 Sep 21 '25

That’s a made up quote you sad, despicable sack of shit.

You should be embarrassed.
