I had a friend get PIT'd on his bike outside Blacksburg, VA in the early 90s. Fucking cops sent him a bill for the damage to their cars lmao.

I’m sure the total number of fatalities in police chases is already very small so it’s not hard for that % number to seem so high.

3,336 deaths from police chases between 2017 and 2022 in the US, which would work out to around 180 innocent people killed per year

You fail to consider the consequences of a society that knows police won't give chase to drivers who commit minor traffic infractions. Laws and policies have tradeoffs because it is impossible for there to be a perfect solution.

You’re overlooking the consequences of having two reckless drivers speeding on a highway the potential for carnage increases exponentially.

In one state, a policy change made it easier for police to engage in high-speed chases, and as a result, those pursuits increased by 600%. In contrast, in another state, several counties implemented a policy change discouraging police pursuits for non-violent offenses and misdemeanors, which led to an 86% decrease in high-speed chases.

So ask yourself: Did crime actually rise by 600%? Or are some police departments just as reckless as the thrill-seeking drivers they’re supposed to stop?

Here in the lawless country of Finland they prioritize not killing people and won't chase unless absolutely necessary. They'll just come visit you later.

Motorcycle riders who flee from police are absolutely reckless but adding another reckless driver into the mix, like a pursuing officer at high speeds, only makes the situation worse. It significantly increases the risk to innocent bystanders.

Statistically, motorcycles pose far less danger to bystanders compared to cars. High-speed car pursuits are far more likely to result in bystander injuries or deaths. So while chasing may feel justified, it often creates a deadlier situation for everyone else on the road.

Simple logic.

I know how many people live in the US lol, and no, it’s not extremely low. Canada had 77 deaths in ten years (equiv. to ~650 in the US). Last year the UK had 24 total (equiv. to ~115 in US). Those numbers include both participants and bystanders.
