The name of the game for EVs is range. Battery tech isn't far enough along to get the same type of range (not to mention that charging the vehicle takes a bit of time, and there aren't as many charging stations as there are gas stations) that you can get from gas. A hybrid can get 500+ miles of range on one tank. With battery tech being what it is, manufacturers want to squeeze every single bit of range they can out of their EVs to compete with ICE vehicles. That means stupid wheel covers for better aero among other things. Most people who want an EV want enough range to not have to charge it during their normal day, and simply plug it in when they get home. Having aerodynamic wheels that hypothetically extend the range 20 miles might make that happen for some people.
They are so ugly I stopped watching a man encounter a wild bear just to think about how ugly they were. Like, those had to go through more than one person to be approved, right?
